Today I want to tell you guys what I did and still have to be mindful of when my codependency is taking over. Something I dont have to focus on so much anymore but others are still in the back of my mind.

    Found out I was co dependent after death of my wife years ago and just getting out of a friendship/relationship with a narc!! Yes, learning to be alone and doing things by myself, being independent. But God is helping mentally and spiritually get through it all!!

    Great video, there is nothing like a perfect marriage or relationship, I learnt that in everything there is always a solution, 5 years ago I and my wife divorced because we were having some difficulties in our marriage but we are back together ,it was a really bad phase but we got through it

    I was codependent on my ex. He was my very first relationship at 38. I was trying to fix and heal him which made mw anxious. So he left me because he said he didn't really fall in love with me. So now, I am loving myself more so I won't lose myself again.

    oh my …. conflict avoider ? yes i did everything i could do over the last 70 years to avoid conflict.I still do but I’m getting better at it. And anger! Anytime I talk with an angry person, my first response is I must fix this. i must take there anger away and put them at ease and the extreme Anxiety that goes with it. You younger people learn this stuff now. Don’t wait till you’re 70 years old. And again thank you Stephanie you’ve helped me so very much 👍🏼

    OMGosh this was soo helpful!! I was the oldest of six so I started out caring for others, I went in to being a nurse, which I loved then married an extreme taker & now @ 70 I’m finding out that although I still really love helping others that I need to take care of me!! My thinking was that if I didn’t have a good reason to say no that I needed to say yes!! Grateful to these podcasts that give me help.

  • @roberttruman8444

    I used to apologise too much and too soon, and I struggled with guilt and shame since childhood as a result of being corrected and disciplined far more than other kids I knew. I dropped the need for over apologising quite a few years ago. The problem with over apologising is that it's so deep rooted in negative feelings about the self that sometimes when you really have done something wrong you might not reflect on it enough or be present, and can come across inauthentic when making your apology. I fixed that issue but still struggle with how I will naturally assume to be wrong and at fault. It's ironic that for someone who spent so much of his life being oblivious to himself and rarely took the time to check in with himself, self sooth or consider his own needs and wants, that I have always been unaware of myself unless of course I'm introspecting to find my own faults to atone for. So for any kind of affirmation or self compassion I was nowhere to be seen, but when fault finding I was the most introspective person out there.

    OMG- THIS is so me. I grew up trying to ignore my problems and taking responsibility for my friends problems. Then this transfered over to boyfriends and marriages. I wasn't too concerned what people thought of me because I was really independent perhaps overly so. I was confident but I didn't really stop to think what do I really want can this person really be there or meet me In this.
    I know how I am feeling. I just don't know what to do about it. I feel 25% of the time still stuck in survival mode. I have a good relationship now but sometimes misinterpret a text that seems similar to what my ex would say but this guy is totally different. When we are together it is easy and clear I just went down the rabbit hole for no reason. I feel like I am spending too much time thinking about the relationship and not enough about me and the other things going on in my life like my job or hobbies, goals, kids or friends ect

    Because I have gone through this, I am very sensitive to it and i try as much as i can to help others.

    I know this is a useful theory, mainly in unhealthy societies like ours, but in healthy societies taking care of others is natural and secure.

    • @tinaperez7393
      @tinaperez7393 Месяц назад +1

      I heard it put best this way:
      Real and healthy love and relationships - where people are caring and being responsible for others (family, kids, spouses, etc.) means sometimes and often putting others' needs before your own. But not INSTEAD of your own - like betraying your needs and wants by not taking care of oneself, living only for others, not clearly communicating others one's needs and wants, not asking and getting help when and as needed, etc.
      Also there's a book called Real Love that describes healthy love and relationships really well where love isn't transactional and a performative, passive aggressive bid to hopefully get what one needs and wants IF they do someone another person wants.
      Another thing is knowing what getting and protecting behaviors are (always trying to earn someone's very conditional "love") the difference between performative vs connective behaviors.

    • @tinaperez7393
      @tinaperez7393 Месяц назад +2

      In other cultures, taking care of others can be just as easily taken advantage of, one sided, abused, and unhealthy. And when a female wife / mom is economically trapped in an abusive relationship it's absolutely not "healthy" and "secure'. Especially if the guy leaves or cheats (exposing the wife to the possibility of STDs, including AIDS. At the very least I hope women in those situations have access to free or affordable healthcare, birth control, and prophylactics - if the husbands let them use it.

    • @tinaperez7393
      @tinaperez7393 Месяц назад +1

      Oh I get it, there's a other comment like this - this channel is being targeted by some sexist trolls or people using bots for trolling.
      You represent people focused on not making things better for women like being better husbands and fathers, and not raising strong, independent, capable children so they can have better lives, relationships, and families than yours.
