    Only thing I'd say to do that I didn't hear you mention would be if possible tuck the top of the tarp or underlayment up under the row of shingles above the affected area or caulk the top of it so water sheds over it and doesn't just shed under it or you may find you still have a leak when you get off the roof

      That’s really the only thing ? This man is making an easy repair into a massive project. Unless u want to replace the entire area you shove nails into or redo the entire roof I wouldn’t b sending nails threw your roof when u could just replace the damaged shingles

    I read all the comments and got part of my question answered(about the button cap nails leaking). But after you remove them and fix the leak do you just caulk the holes left from the button nails or cover them with roofing cement/tar? Thanks, glad there wasn't any lightning.

    Surely, you are not just using button nails thinking that water won't run under the tarp?

    Do you have to use nails or screws? Won't that just make more holes for water to get in? Is it possible to use an adhesive instead and tuck the edge of the tarp under the shingles, and glue that part on the under side of the shingles?

    • @DigitalRoofingInnovations
      @DigitalRoofingInnovations  3 года назад +1

      I wouldn't worry with the glue and this is more of an emergency repair, not a permanent fix. I strongly recommend using some button cap nails instead of any adhesive, but yes, this is going to put more holes over time.

    Digital Roofing Innovations- Hi I've just seen several videos on tarping a roof. Hurricane Ian came by,. I have lost shingles, and have water damage. I had the roof tarped, but they put sand bags on many areas. Because we didn't have internet, I was unable to check these videos out. So don't know how secure that tarp is. I guess I should ask they guys. I have seen where the wind has lifted my neighbors tarp, I've seen little wood on some houses, while I've seen others totally in a vacuum??? I know my whole roof will need to be replaced. Help please...We are on the worst hit areas (not Ft. Myers Beach).

  • @dessymaturin5093
    @dessymaturin5093 3 года назад +6

    The water will just go right under your tarp! You either need to tuck the top of your tarp under a row of shingles or let your tarp go over the ridge. Better to tuck if you will repair roof, less nail holes to fix

    • @DigitalRoofingInnovations
      @DigitalRoofingInnovations  3 года назад +2

      Totally agree with you on that, but this video is more designed for a homeowner to tarp in an emergency situation, not a long term solution.

    • @DarkGhostHacker
      @DarkGhostHacker 3 года назад

      If it's more long term how do you make the tarp stay in place for strong winds? Do you have to remove shingles and then reglue them back on after you tuck in the tarp? Or can you just life up the edge of the shingles and tuck the tarp underneath, would that be enough to hold it in place?

    Thank you for this very useful video! We have a leak on the roof... But it's coming from a dip in the roof where there's an exhaust vent. The vent came up and undid some of the nails so it doesn't lay flat against the roof cause of the dip. Would you recommend using the outdoor adhesive to push the vent down combined with a tarp over it to stop the leak? Thanks again for the video!

    • @DigitalRoofingInnovations
      @DigitalRoofingInnovations  3 года назад +2

      You are absolutely welcome! What I would do is get a couple of roofing nails and renail down if possible then make sure to use some outdoor sealant on top of the nail heads to make sure water doesn't get inside. If that doesn't work, there's nothing with using some adhesive and tarping for a temporary repair. Just remember, that vent is likely there for a reason and is probably venting something in the house.
      We hope this helps!

    I have a question. I will be needing to get onto a porch roof, to paint window shutters. The roof is slightly pitched and is narrow, about 5 feet from the window wall to the edge of the roof. There is no peak for me to attach an anchor to. Where would and how should I attach an anchor?
