- Paco Balderrama has resigned from his position as the Fresno Police Chief following an investigation into an inappropriate off-duty relationship with the wife of a Fresno Police officer. Balderrama's resignation will be effective July 25.

Likely, they were all helping him find a path out of Fresno while keeping his bad ethical choices quiet. Dont throw the SJV Sun under the bus for their reporting! Good or Bad, SJV Sun and Fresnoland provide thorough timely reporting 👍

I don't understand why they're crying about the way the media covered a big story like this, including publishing information from knowledgeable sources that turned out to be correct. It's not like anyone ever said Balderrama was guilty of denying Wamhoff's promotion; they just reported that is what the allegation was. And that turned out to be exactly what the allegation was. So what's the problem?

I loved seeing both City Hall and the police union whining about different media coverage of this situation each for their own separate reasons. I think it’s because everyone is so accustomed to the kid glove treatment they get from local media that they all seem bewildered to learn that the job of reporters isn’t to bend to their messaging goals

There are some old fogies in Fresno that still think of Fresno as a small cow town, where reporters "stay in their lane" and turn the other way in face of scandals. But Fresno is now a city of half a million people, metro area fast approaching a million. Those times are over. No more Red Wave traveling to road basketball games. No more zany Al Radka commercials. For better or for worse, we are now in the big leagues, folks.
Because the media reported on rumors. He didn’t interfere with the officers career. That misinformation is still being repeated and passed along the internet by dense hypocritical people.
Mr. Paco has to pay for a divorce attorney, child support (3 children) , and a move out of Fresno. Likely, he is hoping Austin, TX will overlook his poor ethics and Austin will pick him as their new chief🫢

In spite of his personal mistakes it’s hard to deny the great job he did making Fresno safer. Now he’s free to concentrate on what’s really important, his family. Peace and healing for everyone involved. Time to move on.
He's from OKC, where I live, and honestly, I never heard a bad thing about him or his twin brother. They're both cops and worked their way into administrative roles. Paco was the deputy chief of Oklahoma City police before he left for Fresno and his brother is a beloved Major.... Everyone loved him here. I think he made a shit decision to cheat, especially with a subordinate's spouse. But was a competent, well-respected, fair decision maker on the job from everything I've seen. What a terrible way to end an otherwise very respectable law enforcement career.
