    I haven't been in Finnland in winter yet. But we are in our Kesämökki on a Iseland in the archipelago close to Lokalahti (Uusikaupunki). Mummu was originally from Koivisto (Viipuri area) and had to flee twice as a little child during Talvisota. Then she lived in Saarijärvi for some time until their Family settled in Murto close to Loimaa. But she later came to live with my Swiss grandfather in Switzerland. This year we will visit Lappland at Christmas. Im very excited for it. After i finish my mastersdegree here At UNI Zürich i decently want to go to Finnland to really learn Finnish.

    Kuusijärvi could also be spruce lake.(or fir perhaps). Constructive feedback, I hope. Your videos are great and bring back lots of good memories for me. Favorite places, Aytla, Jalisco or Kråkö, Porvoo. And I have a place on Katajanokka, which I like a lot. Lived in Linnunlaulu, close to your winter garden video, which was nice, last I lived in Finland.

    I am happy to see this channel isn't dead! And yes, you pronounced the name correctly, I usually say it as you said :) thank you for so warm words!
    As for content, I have an idea. You have graduated recently. What are you planning to do after? And in general it's interesting what young people in Finland usually do after they graduate. As I understand, not all young Finns study in Universities, some of them choose colleges or work just after school, am I right?
    I am sorry if I am talking about something which might already be in this channel (about high school, colleges, etc.) but I am here only for a year :)

    Wouldn't "Spruce Lake" be a better translation for Kuusijärvi? Just thinking "six" doesn't really make sense in the context unless there's some historical significance to the name that I haven't found.

    Of course I'd like to see Edinburgh videos. Edinburgh is pretty neat. Glen Nevis is great too. Camping under the shadow of the Ben.
    How've I been doing? Same old same old. Been throwing together some (very bad) cooking videos. I hate editing. lol
    The last week or so have been very windy here with trees blown over near my block. Some of the forests here in North East England are closed because of the danger of falling trees.
    I watch CacaBella's vlog from Taiwan. They're funny. 😁 They've just done their first concert.
    I see you stepped in some 🎵 snow, snow, thick thick snow.
    I see you have a guitar in the background. Do you play and sing? You might have already mentioned it, but I have the memory of...memory of...one of those shiny things that swims in water. 😁

      Nice to hear there is interesting in Edinburgh! :D Please be careful with the weather there!
      Oh, I'll have to check them out! Last year I actually watched one Taiwanese tv show xD
      Yes, I used to when I was pretty young (hence the size of the guitar). During elementary school and junior high (so up until I was 14/15 years old). But I've never done any singing!

      @@KatChats. You think there will be no interest in your Edinburgh video because it's 'old news', but one of my favourite RUclips channels is Magenta Otter Travels where American Dara is currently posting videos of her trip to Britain last Spring and Summer. Her content is so good I've set my alarm clock for 4.00pm (6.00pm your time) so that I don't miss the premiere. 😁
      Perhaps you could give us a tune on your guitar too? I can play 'She'll be coming round the mountain' on a guitar. That's bit was all I managed. I never got as far as learning how to play 'when she comes'. 😂
      I'm betting you'd be a good singer too if you tried. I sing like a cat at night. lolol

    I've got a couple of topics about Finland I'm curious about--but I don't know if they're something Kat would want to tackle or not. Oh well, I'll throw them out, and if she addresses them in a later video, great--and if not, oh well.
    First, I became interested in Finland because four or five years ago, I was seeing a lot of YT videos made by Brits living in Finland. Some of these Brits describe Finland (and especially northern Finland) as "a very conservative place." The more I learn about Finland, the more I don't believe their assessment. However, I don't think this is because these Brits are trying to be misleading. I think the problem may be that I, as an American, have a very different conception of what conservatism is than the conception held by people everywhere else in the Western world. I know Kat's mother is from America, but I have no idea what part of the USA she's from or what her cultural/political leanings are, so she might be able to give Kat great insight into these differences--or maybe not at all. But a couple things the Brits mention is that northern Finland is "very religious" and that it "is awash in guns." I think a conservative American familiar with northern Finland would probably laugh at these assertions, but maybe I'm wrong. So to sum up, I'm curious to know whether Finland's culture is more conservative than the rest of Europe, and how Finland's cultural conservatism compares to the conservative parts of the USA.
    Second, I recently saw a video by a Russian RUclipsr who visited the city of Vyborg. I thought it was a beautiful city. I did a little research about it, and I was surprised to learn that Vyborg used to be Finland's "Second City" after Helsinki. I'm curious to know how Finns today view the territorial losses following the Winter War and the Continuation War. Is it something the Finns still rue, or is the Finnish attitude that the past is past, and let's move on?

    • @KatChats.
      @KatChats.  2 года назад

      Wow thanks for your in-depth comment! Some really interesting topics for sure. I will keep them in mind for future videos if the opportunity comes up to talk about them in more detail (or with people that would know about the topic better than me!) :)

      @@KatChats. I think that since you made this video, you have mentioned that Minnesota was the part of the USA where you lived. Minnesota is a pretty liberal place (at least by American standards). Maybe I can clarify what I meant by saying that Minnesotans probably don't have a great understanding of how people in, say, the deep South view the world--and the converse is true, too. Part of what I'm driving at though (without expressing it too well) is that although there is a deep cultural and political divide in the USA right now, it seems to me that the people on the right have a much better understanding of where leftists are coming from than the leftists have of where the right-wingers are coming from. Since the UK is much more leftist than the USA, I can see how the Brits might think Finland is extremely conservative while conservative Americans might laugh at their assertion.

    • @bigscarysteve
      @bigscarysteve 2 года назад

      @@KatChats. Another thing that just occurred to me is how surprised I was when I found out that Finland had a prohibition on alcohol from 1919-1932. Many Americans have a stereotype of all Europeans as being alcoholics to some extent, but Finland and all the Nordic countries except Denmark had prohibition around the same time as the USA did, and as I understand it, primarily for the same reasons--that is, religious reasons. I never would have guessed that.
