Capacitors are use to store electricity and keep electronics working even when they are off. You may notice different electronic have to have clocks reset when the electricity goes off, stoves, microwaves etc.. On the other hand some things that don't lose time, some alarm clocks or small electronic devices. So it acts like a backup battery. Over an extended period without electricity it will drain down but it works to save current setting, time stamps and custom configurations that save you the hassle of reseting every time it's unplugged. When current is restored it recharges the capacitor. The EV market has been testing using this theory in cars instead of batteries because it only takes minuted to energize in place of hours to charge. Unfortunately it wont work on EV's. Sorry I talk to much, lol.
