Brilliant video John, I picked up the creepers edition to mate

I double dipped on this too, still have all the original Blu-ray Dario argento arrow releases couldn’t bring myself to part with them. Great video John as always 👍🏻

Great video John, I'd agree with your choice, if I was buying phenomena on 4K I'd by the Creepers set, I love that artwork, I remember seeing it in the video shop, if ever there was a sleeve that was going to entice a horror fan, that's the cover! I couldn't wait to rent it and get it home. Fun times!

Hi John, Nice edition of Phenomena. I received the 4k arrow edition of CandyMan today. Its a good transfer but as expected the same packaging as regular blu Ray.

@@MondoChelloveckMovies btw the thing i always hated when watching Phenomena is that with all those great effects there is still a scene in a room supposed to be filled with barbed wire but it is so amazingly obviously not barbed wire but just plain metal wire it always manages to throw me out of my suspension of disbelieve.

I ended up going with the other Arte edition but after watching your video I think I wish now that I'd have taken the Creepers 4k upgrade but never mind. I'm still happy with it. Not a massive upgrade as the previous Blu ray was very very nice but it was still noticeable and there's definitely some nice uptick in details and certainly in the colours via the HDR (despite it being a more muted film as you mentioned). Agree the Synapse Suspiria is a while new level of quality. That's an amazing 4k release.
I think I went for the Creepers edition as my blu Ray looked too much like the other ones but I did like all the other versions of it and I think, as a 4k it's the best Argento out there yet..... Will Tenebrae knock it off that spot? 🤔 HDR plays a big part in this release and I think nothing will come close to Suspiria! It looks insanely good, cheers Darren 🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies yeah be interesting to see how Tenebrae turns out. As far as I'm aware that never had a fancy Arrow scan or packaging like some of these other ones did (at least my Tenebrae is just a standard jewel case release anyway) so hopefully it's a more significant upgrade than the other Arrow Argentos but I can't see it or anything else topping Suspiria.
I've got a feeling if Tenebrae is a brand new master 🤞 it'll look spectacular 🤩🤩 yeah the last transfer was a while back so it's got to be a bigger upgrade than most of the recent ones, yeah Suspiria is THE BENCHMARK Darren 🤩🤩👍👍

Nice one John. Looks like I might be triple dipping with this😍. I like to have the soundtracks as I have the Deep Red one. I also won't be getting rid of my window box version's either.
At least with An American Werewolf In London, The Hills Have Eyes and so on. O can just get the standard 4K and not miss out on anything.
Once I've spoken to my mate and the BFI about reissues I think I'll do a video on why Arrow have done these duplicate releases for the different formats.
I have a good idea why already but an industry perspective can't help. He knows and deals with the Arrow, 88Films, Indicator and and most the other labels to. I my see if he'd come on my channel too.

It really is a fantastic pick up John and what I think you have accomplished now is you definitely have the definitive versions of phenomena. Great to hear that the transfer is fantastic on it and I've already said this to you but I think I'm going to go for that creepers release as well. Like you said it couldn't have been any more different to the original Blu-ray release. Thank you so much for doing a comparison on this and I have to admit you definitely sold it to me
I think this is maybe to the best way to have a "complete" Phenomena experience 🤩🤩 I rate this release highly and yeah the differences are the main drawing point! How many times have we said that the Arrow releases are like carbon copies 😵💫😵💫😁 I think you will like this one for sure Keith 🤩🤩👍👍👍

Got the Creepers box art as well (surely everyone in the UK ordering off the Arrow site did?) Very nice. I also have the original Creepers video shop poster so will be comparing it to the one in the box.

Till I saw the 4k version John,the film didn't ring a bell,but that cover always hit you when you walked in video shop,nowt like walking down to local shop to pick a film up ,nowadays it's press a button ,and it's on your TV...

Hey John!! Hope your doing well. I just received the synapse 4k of this movie, and I’ve never seen it. Which version do you recommend for me to watch for a first time watch? International? Creepers? Or Italian?
Hi Westlinklater 🤩🤩👍👍 it's a funny one as when I first watched it I didn't care for it (that would have been the Creepers cut...its too short) second time I watched the International.... liked it more... 3rd time International again and loved it... don't be surprised I'd it doesn't connect first time but I would say International (I haven't watched the Italian yet though mate) hope that helps 🤩🤩👍👍
I have the blu ray box, plus 2 of the 4K releases (One "Arte Original", and the other "Creepers" variant) - I know what you mean John, I couldn't resist at the very least to get your "Creepers" art edition too. I have not seen the 4K transfer, but I'm waiting for that special day to experience it. As for the 3 cuts of the film, in my opinion the "International English" and "Italian / English Integral" cuts are fantastic. But the "83 minute" Creepers cut is literally a waste of time and an insult to Dario by having it both created and released. John, please let me know what cut(s) you prefer most, I would love your opinion!👍👍
They are all nice editions Josh, I feel now that I'm fully complete on Phenomena with these 2 releases 😁😁 the picture is VERY nice on them! I've finished watching the longest Italian cut and enjoyed it a lot more than I had done previously, I could imagine the "English" cut to be very similar in feel as there are only parts here and there added with Italian on the longest cut, I'm really interested to watch Creepers again as I did watch it a lot back in the day and enjoyed it, but after seeing the full one again.... hmmm it'll be interesting to see!! Ill let you know mate 🤩🤩👍👍

How do the colours compare with the last Blu-ray? I thought the blues looked a bit off and more grey in that one. 🤔
I personally think the colours looked great, not Suspiria great but more naturalistic 🤔 it does have a cold palette to it I feel although I think the colours worked really well Simon 🤔🤩🤩👍👍

I remember when I was a little kid that very poster being on a rental store's wall. That would be the US version.
Phenomena is my favorite Argento movie. I love it's weirdness to the bone. And it is very gross.
I remember a big box vhs I used to rent out, I might have to check out the shorter Creepers cut again as I remember liking that version way back in the day 👌 it is very buggy 🤯🤯🤣 👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies I only watched it once in the Creepers version some time back in the early 2000s. I didn't get to watch it back in the 80s, unfortunately.
I need to give it a spin and see if it holds up, now I've recently watched the full version, I might alter my opinion on it 🤔🤔👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies I don't really even remember the differences between Creepers and Phenomena. I didn't check it out in the Synapse Blu-ray release. I watched one of the longer cuts. Knowing now that the original cut has both English and Italian audio, I'm wondering if I even saw the longest cut. I might have seen the middle version as I can't recall watching a version which has both languages within the same version. Now, I'm curious as to what I have seen. I might have to go back to my Blu-ray to find out. Or, maybe I will just get either the Synapse or Arrow 4K releases.

It's all good and all - only problem is, the color grading on the Arrow Blu-Ray represents Argento and DoP Romano Albani's originial vision, with the blu-ish tints - and was actually the first release that I know of, that came close to being the only option to see Phenomena as originally intended. Unfortunately, Arrow screwed it up with the UHD, giving it a new, more natural-looking color grade (and a VERY inconsistent one, as they couldn't really get rid of the intended blu-ish scheme everywhere), and Doinald Pleasence now looks like a sex tourist with a bug addiction. I could look at the UHD for about 15 minutes last night, then turned it off - the magic just wasn't there. So - hang on to that Blu-Ray, as it is - and will probabably remain - the best way to experience Phenomena.
