hybrid doesn't work that way. Usually only kicks in when you are idle to cruising with no load, when batteries is low the gas will kick in to charge the batteries, but towing a 4000lb boat will probably negate that effect. I could be wrong, only a tundra engineer will tell you how that works. good luck in Mich!
