- An Iranian gunship fires at a US Navy convoy, only for the USS Simpson, an FFG-7 class frigate, to return fire. That April of 1988 was the first time that this class of frigate was tested in battle-and it passed with flying colors. A great accomplishment given that the FFG-7 frigate was the first ship designed by computer-a true game changer in naval warfare.

Hope Our Navy has the same toughness in 2022-23!!!
GOD bless you and the whole crew of the USS Simpson!
I was on the decommissioning crew for two of the last frigates in service in 2012 and 2014. My dad served on a Knox class. I think the navy is finding they filled a crucial role, there's talks of a new design. The 'one armed bandit' launcher had been replaced by a 20mm by the time I was in.
This is a good program. I've enjoyed all episodes that have aired.
True professionals, doing their job flawlessly.
Well done al U.S. crews 👍🇦🇺
God Bless those lost on the USS STARK FFG 31 and the SAMUEL B. ROBERTS FFG 58
I WENT ON TWO PERSIAN GULF TOURS (1987-1989) USS NIAGARA FALLS AFS-3. USN 1986-1990. 🇺🇸✌️😜
Hey Dragnet, I was on the Falls 84 to 87 and came back 90 to 93. I was EM3 the first time and EM1 in E-Div the second time around. So I'm sure we crossed paths. Where did you work?
I was really confused for a minute. The US Navy doesn't use frigates anymore in place of more destroyers and more modern subs and aircraft
First ship designed by computer... (in 1980's). Was it designed in the first version of CAD for DOS? It was probably worse than paint brush.
What about the other missile?
The iranian harpoon missed the U.S.S. Wainright.
@@jeffreyremick4387 Thanks.
The Wainwright fired chaff Its a defensive system kinda looks like fireworks going off It caused the Iranian missile to veer of course and miss the Wainwright I served in the Persian Gulf summer of 1987 USS Worden CG 18 We where one of the ships doing the oil tanker escort mentioned at the beginning of this episode
What about the USS Stark (FFG-31)?
Or Sammy B.
EXACTLY. USN 1986-1990. IT WAS CALLED THE TANKER WARS. PRESIDENT REAGAN ORDERED THE NAVY TO ESCORT THE OIL TANKERS IN AND OUT OF THE PERSIAN GULF. THE TANKERS SAILED AND FLEW UNDER THE U.S. FLAG. I WENT ON TWO PERSIAN GULF TOURS 1987-1989. 🇺🇸✌️
So basically who cares about the American ship that had a missile coming at it? LOL Good old Smithy and their weird clips.
They're really sorry, but they've been forced to reallocate the majority of their energy toward propaganda, and there just isn't enough left for good production.
The joshan asked for it
🤔
