Much of this was filmed at the Melbourne Mechanical Keyboard Meetup, so it's a bit shaky, so sorry for that!
Also, I lost the sound file for the typing test, and had already deleted everything after exporting. So I couldn't remove the music :(

haha, a superb layout indeed. I could see myself using the layout as a daily, as I do like using the numpad. Good choice for a work keyboard in my eyes.

The issue with these for work is the non standard Prt Scrn button. Surprising how much screenshots are part of life. At least on my FC980M pair in the office, the standard version has front printed legends, which trips non touch typists in the office.

@@TaeKeyboards Most likely you guys are correct. There is a white variation of the FC980M that has laser/pad printed on the front side of the keycaps. No “PD” on the box label.

Now typing on this keyboard and have been my daily board for almost six month, I really love the layout on this keyboard. Too bad this keyboard is not programmable outside of dip-switch program, but the built quality make up for the downside, and being a 1800 layout it doesn't really need any programmability because it has a function almost like a full 104 keys keyboard . For now I really hope other company adapting this compact layout, especially some gaming keyboard company, who knows if someday there's an OEM keyboard with this kind of layout that programmable and having per key RGB, I think that's a deal for a lot of gamers.

Little late, but great review mate.
I just picked up one of these and I must say, it's pretty impressive.
It's my first mechanical board so enjoying it.
I'm not a fan of gamey boards with fancy lights. Just wanted a solid board so I'm happy with the FC980M.
I have the White Two Tone version which reminds me of my old Amiga 500 board. Always a good thing.
I'm using Cherry Browns which feel great due to the board being so solid.
I'm looking out for a Leopold TKL with Silent Reds for work, but Mwave doesn't seem to have stock at the moment.
    Cheers
    Richie

One of the best layouts. Another one is that 65 I think which has only arrow keys instead of those home buttons. Only minus is that print screen is in strange position. As usually say the most useless buttons is scroll lock break page up and page down (arow keys most of the time do the same) I would rather prefer that page up or page down would be swapped with print screen

Hey, I really NEVER found a single negative review on FC660C, but I really hate mine. I recently bought mine thinking that it would be 45g domes (Leopold says that it is a uniform 45g board), but the alphas are 55g! (The rest seems ~45g as advertised)
But I love everything else about that board. But the most important part about a board are the switches, and the FC660C fails to provide customers with proper 45g domes.

    • @jaywonlee1436
      @jaywonlee1436 5 лет назад +1

Im pretty sure topre has different forces depending on which finger presses the key. The keys near your pinky is 45 and the index fingers are 55 I'm pretty sure
However, if you get the BKE ultra light domes, it's closer to the 45g mechanical feel. They feel snappy and I feel its a better topre experience than stock. And I've had the Topre Leopold for over a year before modding it. I love Leopold stock topre, I love BKE even more.

  • @ScrattleGG

What would you recommend for 1800 style now? I need the numpad for entries since I'm blazing fast on a numpad, but I like the compact design of a TKL for gaming; or am I approaching this wrong and should get a TKL and separate numpad? I don't mind building myself.
One BIG catch... I live in scandinavia (denmark specifically) and I need a bit different keyboard layout if possible.

I believe the "PD" has something to do with the fact that this line of keyboards has a sound-absorbing pad inside the case. Great video, I can't wait to get mine!

    • @mullen711

Ring Ring I thought it was something they only recently started doing. Ive seen older Leopold unboxings where the product boxes don't state that the boards have sound absorbing pads. All "PD" versions say on the box that there's a sound absorbing pad.

I've been wanting a keyboard for work, something with arrows, and a numpad. I dont feel like dropping a couple hundred on custom so this might be the right size/compromise im looking for. Mx blacks / clears are the only cherry switch i can tolerate unlubed anymore. That combined with the smaller than full size form factor might be the way to go, as opposed to TKL + a separate numpad when i need it.

Hope we see the custom 60% hipster crowd get on board (ha ha, puns, puns everywhere) with this layout. If there's a well engineered DIY kit with this layout I know I'd get one.
For people who actually use a computer to earn a living (engineers) having nav cluster + numpad + F-keys is absolutely required (and why we all use 104-key boards.) Pity that Leopold seem to be too hipster to keep bothering to make this product :(

Hello thank you for making these reviews! I'm looking at the Leopold model you reviewed but am not sure about the switch. I am considering the black or brown switch. I will be using it in a public working area. I have never used black switches. Right now I have a Logitech 810 Keyboard with their proprietary switch and a filco TKL keyboard with brown switches. I'm worried I wouldn't like the blacks. The leopold isn't available with the red silent. So, I'm curious what you think of the black vs the brown switches. I could order the Leopold TKL with the silent red. This layout of the FC980 interests me, but I could probably live without the Ten Keys. Thanks

Hello. I have the following question: the issue of long buttons such as "enter", "shift", "spacebar", then this mechanical keyboard has no problem, on the contrary, the typing experience is quite good, but I have just watched This one video of you about the PD fc750r, I found the table quite complaining about the "spacebar" button failing, I find it strange because they are actually the same, only different in size, you can give me a sentence reply ?

Does it use a genuine cherry mx stablizer?

I believe so. Otherwise they're some really good clones.

Awesome! I wish they make a standard TKL board with the same solid build and stabilizers, that would be much more awesome.

Two words that i can't see being friwnds to each other....
    Compact and fullsize...
You can just buy a tkl/60% and buy a numpad tbh. Way better than trying to fit something bigger than a tkl in a school bag.

The one at 4:56? It's a Nixeus Moda Pro.
Other boards featured were the Vortex Vibe, K-Type, and some 96 key board.

Sadiq Alaydrus A custom keyboard with SA keycaps. I dunno what the exact keeb is, but I am 100% sure it’s custom.
