Your video reminds me a lot of JYMV's on the FC980M. Because of that video I ended up with 3 of the MX variant (one in the hard-to-find ZFrontier Reef colorway), and a 4th in the Topre version. Overall, I would also consider it my prebuilt endgame. There's just something very complete and satisfying about the 1800 layout, and how Leopold builds them. A couple of months ago I was eyeing another cool colorway of the BT version on Aliexpress with SP-Star switches, but it was listed at just a little too much for a plastic keyboard.
It's not your endgame wait until you can get a hold of a Leopold with Topre silent switches, I got one and I also got a HHKB type S which is much more expensive but the Leopold just feels amazing, even the switches feel way more tactile and sound amazingly ASMR. I got the one almost in the same color scheme you do.
It's not hard to miss, but it either places your thumb under the hand, or tilts your whole hand To me, it's worth the space saving, but it may bother you
I bought Q1 Pro from Keychron and I still love my old FC980M Black PD with the scratchy brown switches I just love how they sound I might be weird hah, I'll probably buy the updated version and just not bother with any other keyboards.
You might actually be jk, after using the browns of my 980MBT, I've grown to like the sound as well. It's the pinging that gets me everytime I can't find much videos on the updated version - it still has the same double-shot PBT caps, but the case is redesigned, has USB-C, and the lock-lights are green And good choice on the Q1
only problem i have with this keyboard is the switch between wireless and wire or different equipment is way to slow. a hard switch can really help. other than that, everything else is almost perfect.
Your videos resonate the most with me. I nearly quit the hobbies and wanna go for fc660m with silent red as my endgame. Same as yours, the Leopold needs to be hardly modded to meet my expectations of endgame as it was my justification after spending years on this hobby. Even tho I ever try any aluminium board (which is quite uninteresting for me bcs of the weight), I kinda tired with new updated switches and board. Seems like there's no rest in between. Last thing, for me, custom keyboard are really neat and suit for everyone preferences. With that does that, everyone always chasing 'preferences' and causes fomo in the community (which I hated). So I chose to quit soon as soon as my fc660m build done. Thank u for the videos
Good on you for making that decision I'm all for hobbies, as long as it keeps making you happy. Fomo twists this by leaving a feeling that what we have, isn't 'good enough', especially when we see others with shiny, high-ticket builds that garner thousands of upvotes. The hobby becomes less about us And I get that products are improving, and building keyboards are fun - but isn't the reason for all this work, are so that we can use, and enjoy them? How is the battery life of the FC980MTB? Thanks for the video. I have the FC980M with cherry blacks. I did a dirty lube job by spraying Deoxit F5 right into the top of the switch. People may cringe to hear that, but it did wonders for getting rid of the scratchiness. It's been years and it's still working great.
I wish I could tell you, but I don't use the BT model enough to know - it's still using the included AAA batteries, and goes to sleep when not in use I'd say the cringe of spray-on lubes comes from using WD40 or something (which aren't lubes per se, but strong cleaners), so this Deoxit seems an actual solution I'll get some for a next keyboard build, thanks for the heads up, and your words
