Just a fun fact told me by my professor at University of Rome, who made an interesting research on the the Colosseum structures: Vespasianus was already more than 60 years old when the building started, and was worried not be able to see it completed. For these reason he made this edict: if he was alive for the inauguration, then he would pay the total cost of the building from his private holdings, if he died before the inauguration, then Rome treasure would have to pay the bill. For this reason, to achieve the highest building speed, the structure was subdivided into independent sectors and each sector was designed to be able to start the next floor when the one below was not even completed (practically, before the pouring of the concrete into the stone mold). They managed to complete the building process in time, and Vespasianus was happy to pay the Colosseum with his own private money.
The roman era equivalent of George Harrisson paying for Life of Brian with the motivation "because I wanted to see it!" Though, with much more actual killing. :D
Stupid, ignorant question for me; did they use rebar in these constructions? it seems from the photos from partially destroyed structures, no rebar is sticking out..
You basically created this unique hybrid video between incredibly competent modelling skills, a documentary and an architectural masterclass. You are probably the best blender creator out there, hats off. You set a quadruple A, golden bar type of quality for yourself. You are great!.
never saw someone going deep down in the research and also sharing it all with the viewers. Hands down one of the best channel to learn blender arch viz.
Bravissimo! This video is simply awesome. So, so well done. This is a great subject for a video (I have wanted to do it myself) and you put it together so well. I hope you get all the views and recognition you deserve from this.
using myself Blender and procedual crowd, but i fall into a break of creativity when started filling a soccer stadium with procedual crowd addon, it is awesome to see someone did it ! absolute respect to this work sir ! its astonishing to see coloseum filled with epople !
I think this is my absolute favourite Blender Channel! There are not so many videos. But the skill level is on a completely other level, than many other channel with 500+ videos.
This brings me back to what made me fall in love with Blender back in the day, and honestly had forgotten over the years: the ability to create or recreate worlds (fictional or historical), bringing them to life. This may not be quite a "world" yet, but it is a great start (along with the other pieces you've done), and a noble preservation of an important piece of culture that can now be explored and enjoyed in a way never before possible. The level of study you brought to this project is nothing short of inspirational. Thank you for sharing the process with us!
I built a 3D Colosseum (and several other Roman buildings) about 20 years ago (using Softimage) for the History Channel's Rome: Engineering an Empire. This video reminded me of the many considerations I encountered while reconstructing it.
Fabulous work, and a great achievement. The careful planning and decision making to get the best result without overwhelming Blender or your computer is the most informative part. "Well done" seems inadequate, but sometimes language is the best we can do.
Insanely impressive the amount of work you put in here - the attention to both architectural and historical detail is 10/10. One of my absolute favorite YT channels. Followed on instagram now as well! Would love to see you build a procedural system for ancient cities. Generating vernacular architecture for different building types
It's an absolute relief to see someone else who knows their classical orders & details down to their correct parts, placement, profile, & proportions. It is an entire language that hardly nobody can speak anymore.
What an inspirational work you did there! And what a time this must have been to be alive. Thank you for reviving the feeling of what a visit to the Colosseum must have been. I would love to see a rendered short sequence with an alive crowd watching. But this will propably stay a whish. Thanks for putting all the effort in and keeping with the studies from ages ago.
It’s clear a lot of thought and effort went into this video, and it truly shows. This is exactly the kind of content that keeps me coming back to this channel. Great job!
Simply amazing on all levels - research, details, modeling, texturing. Also great to get see a breakdown of the issues faced in the process both historically and in Blender and how they seem to line up. I could easily watch a full documentary on this process. Hats off!
I knew about almost all techniques, but their combined use is inspiring and truly refreshing to see! Da un altro utente di Blender Italiano: complimenti davvero, l'intero progetto è una figata pazzesca!
I love your videos. The quality is amazing, your voice soothing and the information is priceless. Thank you so much and I hope you can get even a fraction of joy from my comment as I get from your videos. Thank you! 😊
This is brilliant! Your usual accomplished mix of artistry and technical elegance. A joy to watch and an object lesson in Classical reconstruction. I just finished watching; now I am going to watch it again. Thank you!
I knew it would be beyond worth it to sub and wow! This video is so well done!!! like the walk through the steps is narrated and recorded perfectly, but then the inclusion of the studying that went into it as well is just phenomenal!!!
Great job it looks amazing! I rebuilt the Colloseum a few years ago and still made some mistakes. Setting up and rendering 80 or more statues back then was impossible with my old computer. If someone masters the new Blender versions in connection with addons well, it is wonderful to see what is possible today. The interior with the walkways, the statues and the audience, just awesome. Big Respect And I think Procedural Crowds really needs some time-adapted people groups for stone age, ancient time, medieval ... ... 😅
Wow, amazing work, this is looking fantastic! To make this super accurate you should paint the statues, as that is what the romans did with theirs. It's a small detail that is often overlooked in reconstructions, but I think it looks cool and is accurate. Edit: I see you talk about this in the video.
Amazing work. My main interests are classical architecture, Blender and I was recently working on an oval sports stadium in South East Asia. Very little has changed in terms of building organization and planning.
Absolutely amazing. Such attention to detail and a brilliant narration. Well done you. I hope you enjoyed modelling this as much as I enjoyed watching you do it. Simply brilliant! Thank you.
Love your work, it is so inspiring. The research, explanation and building recreation effort you are showing us is exactly what motivated me to learn to use Blender this year. Thank you for sharing you expertise with us!
Absolutely amazing. The research and skill is incredible and the result is beautiful. Slight historical nitpick though, Roman bricks were thinner and longer than modern bricks but besides that very cool.
Loved the final tour. You can press ` to turn on gravity in walk navigation. This places you always eye level above your mesh. Looking forward yo more of these shots in 'human' perspective
Correct, but if I recall it correctly, on stairs the camera stutters a lot and sometimes there could be collision issues, especially with overlapping ground layers... But I didn't use this feature since a lot
I am about to close YT for the night and the bell icon turns red. It's hbit... *grabs snack* Your models are not only phenomenally well done, but your videos are very well put together, too. Keep up the good work, sir.
WOW... this was an awesome watch... I have difficulty making a basic model like a house lol... trying to do something like this would make my head explode...
Nice to meet you. I am a student studying computer graphics in Japan. I have been struggling to create the Colosseum for the past few months, and I came across this video. I was very impressed with the detail of this CG reproduction of a historical building. If possible could you please let us know where you are finding your material? Keep up the good work with your creator activities! We are rooting for you.
Beautifully made video. Not as complex, but reminds me of when I tried recreating the Brooklyn Bridge. This is making me want to go back to that project, especially now that Geometry Nodes have been implemented.
Just past the 2 vaulted lower arcades there are 16 empty vaults supporting upper stair cases. I imagine these were used as public bathrooms or souvenir shops or food service centers. They likely did not leave them empty.

i wonder if you lost a heart with the edit lol but wow amazing info
Very interesting sir!
This! This is the kind of non-essential information i just love to learn about.
The roman era equivalent of George Harrisson paying for Life of Brian with the motivation "because I wanted to see it!"
Though, with much more actual killing. :D
Stupid, ignorant question for me; did they use rebar in these constructions? it seems from the photos from partially destroyed structures, no rebar is sticking out..
I'm so impressed with the level of detail and depth of research, as always. Thanks for sharing this knowledge with us!
This more than about 3D, is about history, architecture... this is amazing!
This is insanely complex. I wouldn't even attempt to model something like this. Well done.
Thank you! Love your content btw 👍
You basically created this unique hybrid video between incredibly competent modelling skills, a documentary and an architectural masterclass. You are probably the best blender creator out there, hats off. You set a quadruple A, golden bar type of quality for yourself. You are great!.
As an Italian, I'm crying Dude, Thank you so much for this beautiful reconstruction you made ! :')
Can't believe I watched 24 minutes! No words man! Perfecto!!
never saw someone going deep down in the research and also sharing it all with the viewers. Hands down one of the best channel to learn blender arch viz.
How does one man capable of doing such a magnificent work
Bravissimo! This video is simply awesome. So, so well done. This is a great subject for a video (I have wanted to do it myself) and you put it together so well. I hope you get all the views and recognition you deserve from this.
Thank you! I really appreciate it 🙏
You are the master of Blender architecture!
Having visited the Colosseum several times, I am in awe in your beautifully done videos.
Love the dedication! You are an inspiration! Would love to see some more in-depth videos of your texturing, how you tackle UVs or trim sheets etc.
This has to be my favorite video on RUclips. Combing Blender and Ancient Rome. Magnificent
using myself Blender and procedual crowd, but i fall into a break of creativity when started filling a soccer stadium with procedual crowd addon, it is awesome to see someone did it ! absolute respect to this work sir ! its astonishing to see coloseum filled with epople !
I am an architecture student and my mind is blown away with this level of modeling skills and & research! YOUR SO GOOD!
I think this is my absolute favourite Blender Channel! There are not so many videos. But the skill level is on a completely other level, than many other channel with 500+ videos.
Thank you very much! 🙏
Bro you are the best man I don’t get why ur not the most famous blender 3d modeler yet
I liked that you also covered some historic details about the Colosseum in a blender tutorial.❤
This brings me back to what made me fall in love with Blender back in the day, and honestly had forgotten over the years: the ability to create or recreate worlds (fictional or historical), bringing them to life. Can u please never stop posting video, your presentation is pure art.
Walking through it in real-time with Eevee Next would look pretty good I bet! Awesome work, you are an inspiration.
This is one of the best modelling videos I've ever seen, I'm shocked by the detail. And that walk navigation at the end was breathtaking

Thank you! I confess that a procedural generator for ancient cities is in the backlog of my Trello board 😃
I really hope you reach that line on your checklist :-)
Incrocio le dita!
I just witnessed history in the making.
Make of this statement what you will.
This is mindblowing!
Magnificent!!! I'm impressed and sure some producer will use this model to make a new 'Gladiator' movie.
your channel has top quality content! i'm looking forward for your next video
It's an absolute relief to see someone else who knows their classical orders & details down to their correct parts, placement, profile, & proportions. It is an entire language that hardly nobody can speak anymore.
What an awesome blend with research and 3D skill! Super entertaining, keep up the great work

It's just amazing what you do, and I always wonder how you gained this level of understanding and how you became this good in 3D.
Not getting a full tender for this was Criminal ! Seriously though this is so incredibly impressive, well done !!
It’s clear a lot of thought and effort went into this video, and it truly shows. This is exactly the kind of content that keeps me coming back to this channel. Great job!

I subscribed to your channel for this kind of content !
Love how you respect proportions and give life to Historical buildings !
I knew about almost all techniques, but their combined use is inspiring and truly refreshing to see!
Da un altro utente di Blender Italiano: complimenti davvero, l'intero progetto è una figata pazzesca!
Grazie mille! 🙏
Easily the best Blender video I've ever seen, and I've seen hundreds. I'm excited to see your future work!

I love your videos. The quality is amazing, your voice soothing and the information is priceless. Thank you so much and I hope you can get even a fraction of joy from my comment as I get from your videos. Thank you! 😊
I'm at a loss for words and beyond impressed. Great work, this is a master class.
This is brilliant! Your usual accomplished mix of artistry and technical elegance. A joy to watch and an object lesson in Classical reconstruction. I just finished watching; now I am going to watch it again. Thank you!
Thank you very much, I really appreciate your comments 🙏
omg this is so far the best blender channel. So daitaled... not that boring "white box" architecture or cllche sci fi hardsurface
As always, an incredible video! It's also really well-documented, and the video is truly enjoyable to watch! Thank you.
He did it again. Such a great insight, awesome work.
I knew it would be beyond worth it to sub and wow! This video is so well done!!! like the walk through the steps is narrated and recorded perfectly, but then the inclusion of the studying that went into it as well is just phenomenal!!!
Instant sub... I love when artists do their research so deep. Amazing work.

An amazing mix of historical and technical knowledge!
I love science based 3D reconstructions!
There are very few environments that are this historically accurate & detailed!
That is absolutely beautiful, I’m stunned. Your attention to detail is a great trait
Wow, amazing work, this is looking fantastic!

Absolutely fascinating and learned a ton about the Colosseum's design in the process!
Amazing work. My main interests are classical architecture, Blender and I was recently working on an oval sports stadium in South East Asia. Very little has changed in terms of building organization and planning.
Dawgggg! You are straight up phenomenal!
Absolutely amazing. Such attention to detail and a brilliant narration. Well done you. I hope you enjoyed modelling this as much as I enjoyed watching you do it. Simply brilliant! Thank you.

Absolutely amazing. The research and skill is incredible and the result is beautiful. Slight historical nitpick though, Roman bricks were thinner and longer than modern bricks but besides that very cool.
The research you did to reconstruct this is amazing, love to see more of your videos in the future.
this is amazing, both educationally and artistically, truly a marvel of ingenuity.
Might as well recreate the city of Rome lol.
This is insane. Well done!
That was fascinating on so many levels. Well done.
Your work is absolutely incredible!
Stunning

Very impressive! Great work, thanks for sharing!
Amazing and beautiful work. Thanks for sharing! :)
Very cool video style, with all the bits if information and side by sides ...
Note starting with a cube = mind blown.
Just WOW!
Only just started watching but my jaw is already on the floor...
absolutely colossal effort
Beautifully made video. Not as complex, but reminds me of when I tried recreating the Brooklyn Bridge. This is making me want to go back to that project, especially now that Geometry Nodes have been implemented.
...grooooßartig !!! 😯👍👍
Just wonderful! It looks so good
Wow, hands down !
Wow this was great... really ambitious project and you nailed it. would love to see more of the finished polished renders though :)
Thank you! I will post a few renders on IG in the next few days 👍
Excellent work! I learned a lot. Simply outstanding.
only one word.. AMAZING..
Beautiful video! thank you very much for sharing!
Impressive that all that used only 3GB RAM and 1.9GB of your 8GB VRAM in the viewport, don't know about the rendering. Amazing work.
Just past the 2 vaulted lower arcades there are 16 empty vaults supporting upper stair cases. I imagine these were used as public bathrooms or souvenir shops or food service centers. They likely did not leave them empty.
This video is awesome!
Amazing study. Outstanding effort. Congrats.
how can this absolute banger video only have 62k views?
E vabbè allora dillo...sei troppo forte! the MAN went HUGE this time! Genuine Respect
Grazie! 😊🙏
I'm happy to be super early to this video, right on time for Lunch here in italy too. Fantastic work!
