This stuff reminds me of the “you suck at photoshop” tutorials I watched so many years ago. They were so perfect for what I wanted to learn from PS, with a huge dose of comedy and story built in. It’s kinda fitting that I’m using very similar tutorials to learn Blender for my own interest. I much prefer it to the 10 minute videos that you skip through to learn to do ONE thing.

That I gotta see. If you can fake a presentation in blender that would be insane. You know how to fake the presedent in blender? Easy Model him in blender. Then make a deepfake, Then Blow the Ruse By making Trump Smart in your fake.
Ian Hubert is the example of "The more you understand something thoroughly, the easier for you to explain it to others." When we watch his lazy tutorial, it's almost like we understand it and immediately want to try make it ourselves too. That's a good teacher.
Reminds me of, I think it was that Hugh Jackman Van Helsing movie. The vfx guys were hesitant to have real grass in the shots because they feared that it'd screw up the camera tracking. At the end of the shoot they joked about how they wanted grass in all shots because ot turned out that the grass had so much detail that was still enough so that those ironically became the easiest shots to track of them all.
The way this video was directed (edited live to tape) is a classic example of over-using your multiple camera angles. So often, they're only showing the medium shot of Ian Hubert even though there's something super cool happening on the screen. As a result, we don't get to see it. The ideal shot is the split-screen where we see Ian on the right side, and the feed from his screen on the left. If the director had just put that shot up and done literally nothing else, this video would be better. Just because you have a lot of camera angles, just because you can do live switching, doesn't mean you should. The director seemed to feel the need to justify their own existence by constantly calling for unnecessary cuts. Learn from their mistakes.
@@jmalmsten I VFX Supervised a TV spot and put little green tracking marks in the grass... once. Once they got the track, the first they did was use it to paint out the totally superfluous tracking marks. I learned my lesson.

These speed tutorials are fun for short and quick easy dirty tricks, while CG matter and other channels compress highly informative stuff into 2 mins with forced humor and skipping important stuff. Ian truly knows his audience and knows how to make them understand irrespective of their skill level
Quick and dirty is the best way. The Images as Planes feature is amazing for quick world building. I spent so much time trying to model buildings for a linear level that most players wouldn't even notice. It's just so much more effective.

This talk is 80% quick visual gags involving the slides, but the director's like "No, forget about all the context for what he's talking about, I want to focus on his face talking"
I get he's handsome, but specially for some things that he points out when he's talking, they should've get a clue and point the camera at what he's talking about.
I hope this gets as much attention as your other videos. This is a half hour of hard truth gained only through YEARS of hard work in production “hell.” Pure gold for anyone who wants to work in 3D as a whole.
If blender can combine the ability of CAD software too, then it'll be the perfect choice. They should integrate CAD support. Fusion 360,Inventor and AutoCAD will be out of business If this happens.
This talk was so inspiring. I've been doing CG for 25years and have lost my excitement for it. This video shows me what sort of possibilities got me excited about CG all that time ago. Thank you Ian.

Not cheating, from someone who learned carpentry, joinery, bricklaying and plastering before I started to use blender later on. Knowing too much could hinder your project at times because for me atleast, I was making unnecessary parts that didn't matter and would only higher the overall poly count. This video is great advice, thanks.
His lazy tutorials helped me out a lot and I'm a complete beginner. His humor in his videos always keeps me attentive because some tutorials, while I appreciate that they move slow for me to follow along, are always dry or boring.

Ian Hubert fully understand how powerfull Blender is. How you can create an entire world in a very fast and cheap way. Like that scene of Matrix. You can use Blender for making a AAA high production level movie using easy tricks. One of the best 3D artist ever! What an inspiration.

Ian is an 100% perfect type of teacher 👨🏫 He is passionate which makes learning from him fun & exciting… His tutorial structure is very clean & focused to avoid confusion/ leading you off track,… and just has great explanation skills overall for all types of learners to absorb/retain the information at hand. - Thank you for helping me bring my ideas to life 🙏
He's good and all but 60 seconds won't help someone who doesn't already know what he's doing. Beginners and Intermediates need real tutorials that actually take the time to explain how and why to do things.

Agreed, felt like half the time he commented about something the swap to the screen was just after he had swapped to another image. Kinda don't need the closeups of him or filler shots of the audience when he's literally speaking about the image that we can't see.

Somewhere around 22:26 - 22:50 I realized Ian broke off of his train of thought on a tangent and ran with it. I love his ADHD energy and ability to stay captivating to listen to. Just looking at the audience's faces shows so many smiling and just absolutely enjoying the talk.
For everyone who says that the closeup shot of Ian Hubert when showing some of his piece is bad but in my opinion those close up edits are suggesting that you will have the best experience of every speakers talk when you get to hear and see them live.

I watched Salad Mug first, then came to this video where he demoed a clip of it at the end. It felt like he was a part of the plot line in a time loop movie and it made this all the more enriching. Wow. Just, wow. This is magic and wizardry of the best kind, and I can't wait to make my very own donut loop with a tutorial =)
When I saw the name "Ian Hubert" in the title of this vid my jaw dropped. That Ian Hubert? And he's speaking for half an hour. The look of joy on the majority of the audience's faces when he steps on stage is exactly how I feel. Thanks for this talk, Blender and Ian!

He's talking about how to turn the technical stuff into something that connects on a human level. Filmmakers and writers naturally understand these things. This is the difference between directors and technicians. At the end of the day, this presentation is a technician expressing the importance of understanding the mindset of the director.

Yes the visuals area HIGHLY important for this kind of talk so it should show the screen 100% of the time, with him on the left side

I watched this at .75x speed and he sounds like he's speaking normally
I watched this one 2x speed and I can see the motion blur on his voice
I've only just realised I'm listening at .75x I assumed it was normal
this is the best explanation of visual world building I've ever heard
I watched Salad Mug first, then came to this video where he demoed a clip of it at the end. It felt like he was a part of the plot line in a time loop movie and it made this all the more enriching. Wow. Just, wow. This is magic and wizardry of the best kind, and I can't wait to make my very own donut loop with a tutorial =)
When I saw the name "Ian Hubert" in the title of this vid my jaw dropped. That Ian Hubert? And he's speaking for half an hour. The look of joy on the majority of the audience's faces when he steps on stage is exactly how I feel. Thanks for this talk, Blender and Ian!

He's talking about how to turn the technical stuff into something that connects on a human level. Filmmakers and writers naturally understand these things. This is the difference between directors and technicians. At the end of the day, this presentation is a technician expressing the importance of understanding the mindset of the director.
