This should have been an hour longer.
Two hours longer!
@@Geronimo_Jehoshaphat 3 HOURS
@@KhaldyFathy FOUR hours! Lol
@@JamilLeslie FIVE hours! and a Director´s Cut with the raw footage!!!
@@denissoares5348 🤣🤣😭😭
One does not simply do 13 min edited interviews of the DP god's.
Well Team Deakins episodes are much longer.
@@VariTimo team Deakins is amazing
@@jessica5497 Sure is!
While everyone is complaining about the short format, can we all take a moment to appreciate what a lovely and competent moderator she is. She does her job to the perfection and keenly listens to what everyone is saying. She belongs here.
you cannot simply bring these 3 legends in one room and only produce a 12 minute video. that should be illegal
"if you care about your job, you're nervous." The Great Roger Deakins, Amen
wtf where is the 1 hour round table footage like it used to be
Great cinematographers, but a terrible format. In the old format, the cinematographers could really bounce off each other and offer some depth. Now it’s just boring questions with what feel like highly edited, sound bite answers. Let these legends actually talk for a while!
Yes please. Bring back the old roundtable.
the real round tables are still a thing, they’re just not being released yet
FramesPerSecond I could be mistaken, but I believe last year this is all we got for both cinematographers and composers. The rest of the categories get a short video per interviewee, and a full roundtable video later, but not cinematographers and composers.
I agree sooooo much I’m so bummed about this choice.
I think it’s fine that the majority of the videos are more like newspaper headlines, but these round tables are so sacred, that’s the closest you get to behind the scenes like dvd special features.
Super bummed, and sad, and bummed, and sad.
Indeed. Get them at a table and let them interact.
Wish it was longer. Felt like a therapy listening to Bob & Roger
Are they not going to do an actual cinematographer roundtable this year?
I don't know if was just me, but I really miss the real roundtables with the different talents around it. I think there's more feedback between them than these videos with just three people in it.
Kenny Barillas the real round tables are still a thing, they’re just not being released yet
Yes they just shot one with Prieto Deakins and Richardson
@@chrisszyyy
In my opinion Caleb Deschanel would have much more interesting perspective than Rodrigo Prieto.
Please get rid of this format and bring the old one back.
his realization that everybody around him was also nervous was so valuable and couldn’t be more accurate. feels great to hear a legend admit it. great episode, loved the diversity in their projects.
@7:10 the exchange of looks for the question is priceless 😂
Man those are amazing cinematographers and you guys did them dirty, they deserves more genuine exciting longer interviews
1:09 turn the caption on guys! Things escalated quickly there!
Haha that's dialogue from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Three great cinematographers, but I have to say that Robert Richardson is my favorite. JFK and Natural Born Killers are visual masterpieces. Although Deakins’ lighting rig for the burning building in 1917 is absolutely mindblowing to an old gaffer like me.
we-need-full-roundtables
These guys could all be brothers.
Really love these guys work. Very inspiring and great interview. Richards anecdote about lancing his eye- wow! " like a boxer in a title fight. "Stay committed"- indeed.
The subtitles on this video are WILD!
Cool boots gentlemen. Kudos!
Caleb seems like the best type of DP to work with. Seems like a Very understanding and personable guy
This is so great! Love!
These are DP Gods
What a trio!
Roger Deakins...forever my cinematic crush...
Roger Deakins (UK) (12 nominations / 1 win) (1995-2018)
Robert Richardson (US) (6 nominations / 3 wins) (1987-2016)
Caleb Deschanel (US) (6 nominations) (1984-2019)
Deschanel (seated next to the interviewer) is actress Zooey Deschanel's dad
All awesome.
Deakins and Richardson are my favorite cinematographers))))
bring back the old roundtable interviews.
thank you! ill subscribe to this masterclass
All great films I still think Roger Deakins is the most talented after seeing No Country for Old Men and Blade Runner 2049. Everything Tarantino directs I'm the first in line and Jon Favreau's too.
There are some amazing cinematographers out there, but Roger is indeed a god among men.
Blows me away that No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood were filming at the same time only a few miles apart. NCFOM had to shut down for a bit because of all the smoke from the burning oil derrick scene on TWBB.
TWBB won the Oscar but Roger probably would've have won had he not split the vote with The Assassination of Jesse James.
Deakins pales in comparison to Robert Richardson. Bob is so much more accomplished and diverse.
Snow Falling On Cedars beats anything Deakins has ever lit for sublime poetic beauty.
deakins is the man
@@Geronimo_Jehoshaphat I love Deakins but I couldn't agree more.
Release the full Abrams cut of this roundtable
Bob makes an important point of focussing through the eyepiece rather than the monitor. I think that a lot of filmmakers today are just seeing it on the monitor and that's why the quality of the acting has gone down as compared to like a decade ago. The tools may get fancy but one should not lose sight of the main target.
I'm a still photographer, and I shoot mirrorless, but I can't use the back screen. I HAVE to look through the eyepiece. Gives me so much more focus.
yet Richard's point was that it's an evolving process and people who are use to filming with their phones bring something new to the table
That statement is what caught my attention. It makes sense.
Using a monitor might disconnect from tunnel vision focus but it does bring awareness to the rest of the scene outside of that shot. I use them out of habit but it’s a glass half empty opinion imo
This is a great observation.
The reason why we admire cinema
the captions are going wild
Release full roundtable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bring back the full roundtable
Great video
Where can I get some more of this good stuff?
Masters behind the camera
Most people complained about the format last year already and it seems they're not listening to our feedback. Wake up THR.
3 masters of lights and shadows , is about time that Caleb Deschanel gets finally his Oscar , maybe not for The Lion king but for sure in the not so distant future : The Right Stuff , The Natural and Fly Away Home some of his gems.
If awards were honest Deschanel would have won for Passion Of The Christ.
@@Geronimo_Jehoshaphat Oh yeah that entire film was an achievment in itself , pity so much unnecessary controversy surrounded it at the time it came out.
Please tell me there is a real roundtable discussion coming out
oMG i really want to be this lady interviewer, She was sitting with all the Legends.
Legends👌👌👌
I always look forward to the cinematographer round tables, but it’s a bummer they are shortcuts now. Bring back the original format.
What's up with CC not matching?
Did the host get her teeth corrected compared to last years roundtable discussion?
U KNOW WHAT WE WANT
I want more! Like the rest of people :D
Roger Deakins is just so fucking cool!
These use to be longer. What gives?
roger 🧡
yeah they really missed a opportunity with this one. way too short. should of been a round table. disappointing.
OG’s
Longer, please
those subtitles haha
Jesus she's beautiful.... Her smile
The Grip, The Grip was not nervous
Lmao this seems so tense with the way they cut to the reaction closeups with zero emotion
Make this an hour and add in Bradford Young and Jeff Cronenweth and I can die happy
"...Okay." She's so cute.
As a camera operator I would have a heart attack in that room
I DP'd this, and cam op'd. Yes, heart attack is the right word, especially when you have no budget to do it the right way.
Vincent Venturella Nice man you did a great job did they critique you in anyway :)) ?
@@Hamerparsa This is the third or fourth cinematographer's roundtable I've done and no one has really commented on much yet. This last one Deakins and Richardson talked to each other about how interesting our dana dollies were. Probably because they've never used something so rudimentary.
EVERYDAY WE GOT CLOUD
13 minutes? What a shame.. Anyways, great stuff.
You wanted to 'tease' us with the 'teasers' before doing the hour long roundtable coz you have an entire year ahead of the oscars. How's that plan working out now?
I wonder if the crew were nervous!..
Hollywood Reporter failed us. This format does not go into the depth, only touches various topics superficially while the talent sitting here is so immense. The three are the best, most distinct DPs out there. I’d also like to make a request to call the legend Chivo Lubezki. Only he is missing from here.
Please come up with a longer format, this is a disheartening format!
Why would you invite a DP from a movie that isn't live action even though the marketing team tries to convince the world it is?
I think the brief was to subtitle DPs not a DP scene from a porn film.
Por Roger, let him speak
Because Robert Richatdson and Caleb Deschanel are quite frankly far greater and more accomplished artist than hipster darling Deakins,
There is somekind of a play hidden in the captions. It's wild ! ruclips.net/video/pYF1qLatvhg/видео.html
- He in there?
- Yeah, just knock.
(knocks)
- Look, just put him in the wardrobe, all right?
What's it gonna hurt?
Then if you need him.
(snaps)
You got him, all right?
- Then I gotta have a conversation with that wardrobe assistant and man, she's a bitch.
I just don't, please.
- Look, look Randy, I'm asking you to help me out, man.
If the answer's no, the answer's no, not no with excuses.
L E G E N D S!!
Roger Deakins getting nominated for the Oscar again...if not winning one
He won one for Bladerunner 2049?!
Yeah, he absolutely will, a period film that’s all one shot. The academy eats that up. I just hope that the lighthouse gets nominated, but that’s a bit of a long shot. Also a hidden life and waves are long shots but possible.
Okay so no round table...
the best of them, deakins, said so little...only at the end...he's f..king great...
The table isn't even round here, for god's sake!
Mr. Deakins could’ve spoken a bit more ..
This ought to be two hours!
You know you got the heavy hitters of all time in the room when Roger Deakins is the least accomplished!
If you care about your job, you are nervous
.
The photos in the thumbnail look horrible
That table isn't even round!
white haired gods
And the table is not even round.
The fucking lion king guy?? Come on guys
Miss Conrad L Hall 😢
BTS 😍😍
BTS Lover
God, you bts fans are the most pathetic people. Get a life, it’s dumb boyband pop generated by a huge corporation that basically enslaves and abuses children used to manipulate people like you into giving them money.
WHERE IS LAWRENCE SHER??
Filming an Amy Schumer comedy
No now under 50 in this club.
2 cool dps- and the guy that shot lion king.
If you don’t know who Deschanel is, you’re missing out.
Caleb shot The Black Stallion, The Right Stuff, The Natural and The Passion of the Christ, among others.
Having said that, it does suck that an unnecessary CGI-laden remake is his most recent work.
Caleb Deschanel is one of the best modern cinematographers. He's been nominated six times - just last year for "Never Look Away". Black Stallion, The Natural, Passion Of The Christ, Fly Away Home are just some of his amazing art.
yeah this new format sucks, bring back the roundtable
Worst interview ive seen in a long time, so stiff, so old style. Love all of them but couldnt pass the first minute of it
The Lion King? What the fuck?
why did you publish this? uninteresting and should not have been so.
Wow, these short cuts are not good. Please have the old conversational style with a full hour. Please. So disappointing.
I want my 60 MINUTES! WHAT IS THIS SHIT
Oh, come on -- like Deakins and Richardson know anything about cinematography. (Kidding!)
You could at least get a fucking round table
Damn this lady must have had expensive dental work given by how often and how many of her teeth she seems to want to show at every opportunity
