I love the Brembo Big brakes. My 2002 Jaguar XJR 100 & 2004 XJR had them. It is very easy to do the brake pads replacement. 😀

Yes the Brembo calipers are excellent and very straightforward to service. Not always easy when the pad retaining pins get corroded in. However having said that the Brembo Electronic Hand Brake calipers fitted to the S Type R are a nightmare.

Hi guys, just got my 2003 4.2 n/a home with new brake pads. But they squeal quite a bit. Mechanic said that they fitted brembo pads. But are these the correct once to use for the n/a? I'm having a hard time figuring out whether or not they have fitted the correct once. Cheers!!
Hi, I have got a Jag 2.7 Diesel 2005, as I noticed stopping is not precise and the pedal was bit stiff, I took it to the mechanic he changed the break pads and the vacuum pump but still same? what should I do?
Thanks for posting this. Just bought an '04 with 28K on it -- but the brake dust is driving me crazy. Rotors look good so a pad change alone would be OK.
Hi Michael,
Always ensure that you use a proper brake cleaner fluid which clears brake dust and evaporates very quickly. Don't use a compressed air source for clearing brake dust and avoid breathing it in as it can be harmful. If your disks (rotors) are nice and smooth and don't have an excessive lip on the edges then yes a pad change should be ok.

Great Video! I am replacing my brakes soon on my 2003 Jaguar S-Type R as well. I have not been able to find any Brembo replacement pads for the car. I have only came across EBC, and I would like to if possible to stick with Brembo. I was also wondering how the brake dust was treating you with them?

We got our pads from these guys and they have an online store. Very knowledgeable people. Don't forget to replace the pad retaining pins if yours are quite loose fitting as a result of being removed and re-fitted previously. You'll also need the brake disk retaining clips as these cannot be re-used.
Not sure what you are asking in the last line of your comment regarding brake dust.

I'd never replaced 'disk' pads before....Super HUGE drum brakes, with brake pliers, spring and adjustment rods and the like yes, but never disk. Thank for/to your video. I picked up all the required tools, and then some, expecting the usual Mr. Murphy to show up. Bottom line: it couldn't have been easier! Good grief! a total piece of cake. A 1/8" punch/drift, a clamp, an 18 mm. 6 point socket (in prep for rotor swap out) a 'cheater bar' to turn myself into Hercules, some brake cleaning fluid in a can......and about 15 min. per side once the wheels were in the air.....done deal. Thanks for taking the mystery out of it. An absolute piece of p*ss!

Yes disk pads generally are a lot easier than drum brakes. However when a pad retaining pin refuses to let go of the caliper it can be a nightmare. A good example is the Brembo electronic park brake caliper fitted to the rears of the S Type R version. We cover this "challenge" in a video which is still in post production and will also cover replacing all disks (or for our American colleagues "Rotors")

you guys did a great job. It seems that that Jag has two calipers per front disc rotor as of the Bentkey turbo R. Am I right?
franck yahi 2 calipers only on the rear discs.
Is it true that you need to recalibrate the ABS when you put new pads on? I had my brakes switched out last summer and I've had the ABS fault on since then.

You shouldn't need to recalibrate the ABS after changing brake pads. It could be that the ABS fault you are seeing is related to an ABS sensor fault on one or more of the wheels. You need to get the CPU fault codes read using an OBDII reader.

A parking brake fault can show itself after rear brake change/maintenance. Have a look at the .pdf Jaguar Technical Service Bulletin regarding the re-calibration of the Parking Brake Module.

Why this jag has 2 calipers in the rear? What does it affect?
Hi - The large silver colour caliper is for normal braking and the smaller caliper is the Parking Brake. Both are Brembo units. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
What are the smaller pads on the other side for ?
Hi Dennis - The smaller caliper is the Brembo Park Brake unit which on the earlier models is a seperate unit. On later R models the Park Brake is integral with the main barake caliper.

Is it common practice to replace the brake pads and not resurface the brake disc? Yours looked worn enough to require resurfacing ? Thanks i did appreciate your video.
Hi Mark. Resurfacing discs when replacing pads isn't common practice. However if the disc surfaces are badly scored (bit like a ploughed field) then resurfacing (or replacement) should be considered - but only if there is enough remaining material i.e disc thickness to allow it. Our discs as shown in the video clip were worn as you rightly point out and close to manufacturers minimum operating tolerances. However the disc surfaces were in good condition when we replaced the pads so it was a sound judgement call. We did replace all discs at a later date when funds were available for a set of Jaguar OEM. Thanks for watching Mark and your comments are appreciated.

Brembo? I've had much better luck with Akebonos...
So far on this video there is zero conversation or consideration regarding disc condition, maximum run out, minimum disc dimension. Pads are only one part of appropriate brake service.
