I've been torn between the 890 Adventure (non-R) and this bike and I appreciate your effort in comparing the two. If I didn't have so many paved miles between dirt rides the KTM might win out, but I gotta pound the pavement (probably as most of us do) to get to BDR stages. And I totally agree, from a non technical point, it is a better looking bike hands down.
I wouldn't buy a KTM till they figure out what's going on with the CAMs in all 890s, and the company is also having serious money issues. If you want to be sure though ride both bikes I think you'll like the feel and look of the triumph for Daily type stuff a lot more. If you like me your prob not gonna be able to do a BDR every other day lol.
It's a great thought that bikes are not that different, but reviewers must find and point out even small differences, otherwise they couldn't make a review 13:38.
Nice review. You captured many if not all of the reasons I chose the Tiger 900 RP over an 890 (had a 2015 1190 before). Have you switched tires yet or did you do all that off road riding on the OEMs? If switched-what did you go with? NVM...just went back to your FB page and saw your comments on the tires. Left this comment for the "nice review" part :)
hello you can actually switch from OFFROAD- to ROAD-MODE without stopping the bike by pressing the modebutton for 2 seconds with the throttle closed. You only have to stop when you go from Road (or any other streetmode) to Offroad mode. This works on my 2023 Modell and i am pretty sure it will work on the new one too.
Good balanced review that hits on the same points that I have observed myself. I have had mine for 12k miles / 17 months now and am yet to go offroad, so I agree with all said except with the offroad bit, since I have no opinion. That said, it makes total sense what you said. When I bought my Tiger, I had narrowed it down to the KTM 890 Adventure (S not R) but the points you hit on are the reasons why the Tiger got the nod. Regarding offroad though - what tires are you using? My factory tires seem to not be wearing out but when it does, I think I would like a tire that would be excellent on the road and competent for fire roads. I am not really interested in off-road riding, but would like the ability to wander offroad for a limited spell to get to a nice dispersed campsite or overlook. IOW, the offroad bit is just to get to the destination - that is my use case. I am leaning towards the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STRs.
I came back here to edit my duplicate question about tires so thought I'd reply with this info from Chris's FB post on the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally and Rally Pro page.. "shinko 804 805 combo is what going with next time I have AX41 but feel like they are going to wear down to fast. Only have 600 miles on mine and see wear…time will tell." Triumph lists the Michelin Anakee Wild as their recommended off-road tire. I had these on my KTM 1190 and they were excellent, both on and off-road. But, they were loud on pavement and wore out fairly quickly (4k-ish), especially with more high speed pavement riding in Texas summers. I'm seeing a lot of positive reviews for the Dunlop Trail Mission tires by other Tiger riders.
Yeah I have the AX41 on the bike right now they are great but are wearing down fast I’m guessing I’ll get like 3k out of these tires. I had shinko on the ktm and lasted over 5 with same type of riding so prob going that was next time plus they are way cheaper. I honestly just look for deals when tire shopping. If they look good off-road and get some good reviews from people and are on sale…that’s probably my next tire.
Great review - thanks!
Thanks for watching!

it works on my 2024 RP as well. No need to stop to go back to road mode. I don't think the throttle needs to be even closed when holding M button..
Gonna have to test that out! I didn’t know that.

@@GrumpyGoat I would check out Rocky Mountains new tire they have it in a 17 rear now. Dork in the road just posted a video about them.
