- Welcome back for another Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire update video. In this video, I will be talking about the new Game of Thrones prequel series that's under development at HBO. According to many sources, HBO is developing a new Game of Thrones prequel series about Aegon "the Conqueror" Targaryen. This series is currently being written by Mattson Tomlin, and 'Fire and Blood' author, George R.R. Martin. The series will highlight what happened during the reign of Aegon I Targaryen, and his sisters, Rhaenys and Visenya Targaryen. Aegon I Targaryen is the founder of House Targaryen's dynasty in Westeros. He was the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and king on the Iron Throne. Not only did he unite six of the Seven Kingdoms, but he also created the Iron Throne, with the help of his dragon, Balerion the Black Dread.

HBO is the only company that has a plethora of material, a fan base more dedicated than most ppl are to their spouses and yet so cautious to commit to these projects.

I’d hope it’s because they only want to release top material and are paranoid with having a flop and tarnishing the franchise because they can’t have 2 season 8s on their track record
The material and the fan base are not the problem, the pool of writers and showrunners currently running the asylum in holywood is. People may praise house of the dragon, but it has the same creative and modern day liberties taken as any other current woke disaster, its just hidden better and they have convinced Martin to go along with it and act as if its cannon when he never wrote some of the things portrayed.
I think people just want to believe in a fantasy, more than they want to think about it too hard.
TBH, this should have been the first story they told for House of the Dragon instead of the Dance of the Dragons.
I mean timeline wise it would have worked better with Aegon the conqueror but I have so far really loved House of dragon so I am pretty happy for that reason that they started with house of dragon.

nah bro Aegon the Conqueror needs the highest budget possible. so the more spin offs they do before that, the higher budget they'll have. look at GoT season 1 quality vs House of the dragon season 1 as proof
I actually think this should be done before game of thrones…it would be great to to fast forward and give context better
I think they did right by doing dance of dragons first. Aegons conquest will be a one sided show he shows up with the black dread and everyone pretty much bends the knee or dies.
I'm hoping this opens the door for a series set in old Valyria centuries before the Doom so we can see what life is like for the Dragon Lords and families of the old civilization.

Honestly they could include some Valyria in this series. First episode starts in Valyria with the dream of the Doom coming.

I want to see Aegon's conquest for sure but I wish they did it as a movie trilogy rather than a tv series. ASOIAF deserves to be seen on a big screen. Just imagine all the special effects, dragons and epic music and how amazing would it be to watch it on IMAX!

No series are no detailed and you have more time to tell the story movies are too compact and you end up missing half the story

Martin would have to write it. I don't trust any (other) showrunner to give that potential story justice.
the long night was ruined by season 8, any cool backstory is now void with that horrible ending with Arya...

I have 3 shows in my wish list: 1) Dunk and Egg (a lighter show and doesn't need as high of a budget), 2) the Conquest (an epic show high budget show that goes over decades) and 3) finally, to end it where it all began, Robert's Rebellion.
I have like 10 shows on my wish list lol. So many shows they could get to in the next 20 years or so.

Is just hard to fathom that ALL OF THIS FANTASY AND BEAUTY. BLOOD SHED AND LORE came from one man's heart and brain and soul. I'm 65 years old. I've been alive to see and hear and read amazing stories. War and Peace, The Wizard of Oz. Gone with the Wind. James Cameron gave us the Terminator series, Stephen King, Mark Twain.. and on and on. In my humble opinion, George R.R.Martin had created the best, most epic and fascinating and amazing stories of my life. He is number one for me. To be honest, geniuses can't be compared to each other fairly... The creative masters of our time have given us the best of EVERYTHING. However, if I were to be sent onto a island with only ONE group of stories to be my ONLY source of entertainment and release... it would be all of the stories written by Mr. Martin. The brilliance and wonder this man has gifted us with would be enough to keep me entertained for the rest of my life. I've tried 3 times to get INTO the books and 3 times I've failed. But.... if I was to be stranded away from the world, i promise, I'd read all of them!
You named all of those and not Tolkien who is the blueprint for GOT and actually gave us an ending . SMH

HBO working in reverse order hopefully means we'll one day get a series about Old Valyria. I'd love to see a series about Valyria and all the hundreds of dragons and dragonlord families.

Aegon flew from old Valyria ? lol Valyria was long gone when aegon set out for conquest . It was aenar who flew from old Valyria to dragon stone which was a Targaryen vacation spot . I do believe this show will come to life tho . There was a time HotD was only rumor and look where we're at now . As fans , and spectators of game of thrones and hotd u constantly hear "aegon the conqueror" yet the story is only known through books . To see it on our tv screens , it would be something magical that would give goosebumps , watching him get crowned by his sister and slowly making the kingdoms bend the knee . Then they can expand into aenys maegor and finally jahaerys , I want to see all of him and alysannes kids all their dragons , how they hatched the eggs putting them in cradles , Alyssa Farman , all that would be quite the spectacle and hbo can capitalize if they understand what the people wanna watch .
He didn't say Aegon flew from old Valyria did he. I heard him say Aegon was born on dragonstone & that "Balerion the dragon" flew from old Valyria.

Totally agree. These prequel shows do not satisfy me knowing it all ended with the last male Targaryen being banished, no mention of the prince that was promised and Danerys dead. What was the point of Aegon’s conquest??

They should start with the Doom of Valyria, I feel like that could be a great series that eventually leads to Aegons conquest of westeros.
Things I hope this series brings:
- The dynamic between Aegon x Rhaenys/Aegon x Visneya, especially since it was widely known that he favoured Rhaenys over Visenya.
- The forging of a LORE-ACCURATE Iron Throne. If you haven't seen it already, look it up.
- No half-assing around with key moments. The Burning of Harrenhal and The Field of Fire should be something out of a hardcore horror movie. Death, carnage, and fire everywhere.
- End the series with the peace treaty after Aegon gets the letter from Dorne.
Hopefully it shows Maegors reign as well

In all seriousness. I remember reading all the drama with Henry & them changing the story of The Witcher. During that time I read a story about how he was meeting or in talks about playing Aegon. Supposedly Netflix got mad bout that too or someone did. I don’t know what’s true or not. Henry would be perfect for the role even with him being older. He still looks young & handsome. Also I remember it was mentioned Katheryn Winnick possibly playing one his sister wives.

i think it’s kind of smart to wait to do aegon I story later because the effects and filming and storytelling will be that much better imo.
That’s just illogical. That’s like saying you’re going to wait to learn how to drive or wait to buy a car because the tech will be better. Well every year the tech is going to be better and better and improve and improve. It’s just not practical to make a decision like that when the tech to do a very good job telling the story exists now. Sure 20 years from now the tech will be even better, but if we all took this logic, entertainment would just stay in books.

I really like this idea. It’s a story that should be told. I’m just disappointed they couldn’t figure out the John Snow storyline
if we do actually get this show hopefully there will be one before the Doom of Valyria and maybe get that show about the Night King again.

Brother, I’ve been a loyal subscriber for a few years now. I’m now getting back into re-binge mode gearing up for S2 of HoTD. Revisiting this channel is like reuniting with your best friend who lives across the country.
Major props to you for consistently having the pulse of this fanbase & putting out excellent content for as long as you have. I can’t speak for everyone else, but you’ve certainly enhanced my experience as a fan who was brand new to the fantasy genre.

I think you could of compressed the whole of the Targayren plot with a slightly longer series starting from Aegon as well. !
i read the egg thing book; it was short and sweet, and complete... but i can't rememebr much now... i'm not sure it is great choice for a tv show; but maybe if they manage to portray well the relationship between the egg and the knight, it could be really good way to go about this story

Thanks for the update, always glad to see new material from you. I hope the show starts with the end of Aegon's conquest and deals with the challenges to his rule, because honestly, the conquest itself is one of the most predictable parts of Martin's entire story. Aegon and his sisters were the only people on the planet with a magical airforce. Who's beating that? Maaaaybe if all of Westeros approached Aegon's conquest the same way the Dornish did, then they might be onto something. But that's not nearly how it went down in the source material. They mostly just bunched up in a dry wheat field and waited to be cooked. I'm sure it would be sweet to see Balerion roasting a bunch of running panicked footmen and ignorant lords, but its not terribly compelling for an entire season. Who would be Aegon's antagonist? Himself? There is no credible counter in the story to a magical airforce, which makes it terribly predictable.
30 years of Game of thrones ? Wow, waiting eagerly.
I think they should have done series on each House. Named the series House Targaryen, House Stark, House Baratheon, The Knights Watch, etc., & maybe a series about Kings Landing, the common folk. Each series starting from the earliest records of that House, & ending at The Siege of Pike roughly a decade before Game of Thrones. All the lesser significant houses that don't get their own series, would've been incorporated into the other houses stories.
Either way, nearly endless possibilities... Dorne & its history would make a great series too.
Aegon the Conquerer, & the very beginning (first long night, children of forest, etc.) with Bran the Builder, the star of the Nights Watch, & the Wall giing up is the 2 I look most forward to, along with the books, that I've gave up on
Jack Reacher actor Alan Ritchson would be perfect for Aegon the Conqueror and I could see Wallis Day from Krypton as Rhaenys Targaryen.

It just seems like they can’t NOT do Aegon’s conquest. I know all the contrarians say they wanna see some other obscure timeline but with how massive GoT and HotD have become, Aegon is just too instrumental to never be seen put to screen. We all want to see it, we all want to see Balerion. I wouldn’t even mind if it was just a movie- I just want to see it. I really really really really hope they do it

Since this is the first and most important story...I think it'd be better served as a feature film or say, a 6 hr mini series event as opposed to drawing it out over years.

I am definitely on for a series about Aegon the Conquer. Without GRRM's initial story of Game of Thrones, we wouldn't be watching HOTD now

The one thing I hope they do is show a little bit of freehold culture. I mean, let’s face it. The ones who write the history are not descendents of the freehold they claim their ancestors are the only one who fought the freehold not only is in the book that’s not even true. It’s clear that they ran away and not fought them. I just want to the Targaryen pre-conquest see the ethnic groups of the seven kingdoms
This has potential to the best show HBO has ever made if it’s done correctly, this show about the conqueror could be bigger than the original GOT show imo

I wanna see something detailing the founding of houses like the grey joys and other nations that developed around water. I wanna see their world fully explored cause there's still so much that needs to be seen that's only been hinted at.

A story that starts out in battle... Ending the Long Night, then onto Bran the Builder, The Wall, its magic, House Stark, & the beginning of the Nights Watch. The Kings of Winter, & how detrimental House Stark was to blocking off the true North, in hopes of protecting the 7 Kingdoms. If could be a great series, with few ships, & no major dragon presence, wouldn't take a huge budget.
I could watch anything GoT universe, but I too want more North, Winter Town, Winterfell, Nights Watch, giants, wildlings, etc.

How about just starting with Aegon I and do the whole line of kings up until Viserys I, as one big show? Everything in Fire of Blood is tv worthy in my opinion.

You know what’s so sad about this, GRRM says it himself that Aegon’s conquest came from a dream about the threat of the white walkers. And yet, what happens in Season 8 completely annihilates the entire book plot by, one not making Jon or any Targaryen fulfill the prophecy of the Prince that was Promised. And two, by not allowing any Targaryen blood or dragon to play an integral role in the death of the night’s king. As much as I love Arya, her killing the night’s king without any struggle, and w/o any Targaryen blood really trivializes the vision of Aegon.
I just want him to finish Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring
If HBO would’ve stopped GOT at season 6 and waited for the books to be done and did HOTD and this show in the meantime and came back and finished GOT the right way man that wouldve been amazing 🤩
