Jaida, I really loved the approach and methodology you applied in your project workflow. And given that the crucial part - the client review and feedback for improvements stage - was missing, I think with more time you would have nailed the legibility of your logo type. Both you and Todd have done an amazing job! Well done! 👍🏼
Will will be dumb if he won't continue this series, he is already big enough to attract competitors towards him and he makes much more money from each video's views, sponsor and ads revenue than he pays the competitors, the quality of the videos doesn't need to be as good as his usual videos.. it is only a zoom call. when added to the fact the briefs all checked positive for AI content so basically all he did was be present in the situation and look like he was interested in the competitor's work and we all know that it was not that hard/time-consuming and it gives him roughly 25% more viewers on average for each video than ones he actually need to work for in order to create. so as I said- he'll be dumb if he won't continue this as a permanent series.
This was a really helpful series, Will & team. I'm a self-taught designer who has never worked for an agency so to see the process from start to finish is really valuable. I never feel like my work is good enough to really market myself but I've watched these and thought "Oh, I could do something like that." Which is a nice feeling when you constantly suffer from imposter syndrome due to a lack of a formal design education and/or professional experience. I hope you'll continue the series. Cheers from Cleveland.
Thank you all for the kind comments! Thanks to Jaida for doing this series with me, and thank you to everyone at the Will Paterson channel for having us on! We had a blast!
I love this so much, Will and team; thank you! Incredibly helpful to see and hear other creatives sell themselves. Absolutely amazing! And the designers are amazing! You both are so talented!
Might be nice to see a video on people that are literally just starting in design with a “walkthrough” on how you would guide them and how your teaching style works for them?
After taking a look at both participants portfolio, I feel like both has very different and distinct style. Jaida has a more experimental and abstract style while Todd has a more illustrative/icon style. Todd just happen to fit better with the brief however I dont want to discount Todd's creativity and execution in term of his design and presentation because it was really well done! For Jaida's case, I feel like she's trapped in her own experimental style. Nothing wrong with that, but I feel like Will's team hire her for thattt exact style especially the awesome posters I saw in her website. Maybe they are looking for that loud, abstract style to match with Todd's simpler style. But both did a great job, and after watching this whole season, I really feel like I need to increase my own logo design price 😂
Ever since the first episode I have loved these videos and I am sad to see them come to an end, but you can 100% the amount of effort put into these videos. Thank you for making them and giving me somthing to look forward to each week!
Tod's icon was very effective (and I loved how he applied it in red) but the logo had some easy to spot issues, like Will said. I understand this is a show and a challenge but I think if they put more time into the actual logo design and make just 5 mockups instead of 10, the results would be neat. (Also, Tod clearly has a real talent to speak on camera! 👏👏)
I have loved this series! I am about to go to university to pursue my personal graphic design career and it is really insightful to be able to understand professional designers thought processes in such an entertaining format! I would love to be considered to take part in any of your videos in the future but if not I will continue to attempt the briefs regardless for practise!
Great series, Will. I’d like to see you got through some of the best community submissions from this series. Another way to showcase people’s work who have done for free effectively. Would be great to see more talented people get a platform
The custom type of Jaidas design was fun but felt quite unbalanced with too many varying elements, nothing was repeated to create consistency. I do love the colour palette Jaida made though! Todd’s was a more successful logotype imo but I thought the colour palette didn’t quite sit right. I’m not a fan of the icon either it feels too symmetrical compared to the type and felt disconnected
@@emilyrcollard Yeah, I agree with your feedback and thank you when you mentioned the colors! I'll definitely be revisiting this design and refining the logo more
I’ll get right on that! I just dropped my price to $9. Thanks so much for your infinite wisdom and incredible feedback. You’re truly a gift to the design world.
To me Todd was the clear winner, sorry Jaida nothing against ya. both designers had legibility issues to some degree which Will points out but Todd's decision to have multiple variants of the logo with icon and without it saved the design overall. Having the icon was definitely a MVP move. But the main reason why I give the win to Todd is how he takes into account the corporate side of the project as well since at the end of the day its a business, it needs all the social media, app, website design and other elements to fall together nicely, Jaida did reflected the corporate side but not enough in my opinion, Todds just felt more cohesive. Now I will give Jaida one thing, her design had potential the colour schemes and thought to expand out to different cities was nice and unique but in my opinion it needed more refining that required a bit more time. (I know both had only 1 week to do all this work, Really good job guys!) And the final point as to why I give Todd the win, and that is connected to the last point I discussed and that is time. he simply accomplished things he set out to do in my opinion better in the time slot that was provided, Now I know this is very subjective we all have things going on all the time and we ain't spending every second on a design but I just feel like Todd's finished Presentation was more flushed out and polished. I definitely felt that he had good experience doing this type of work and its not his first time doing branding. I don't want Jaida to feel discouraged I'm simply pointing these things out to help her grow as a designer, She has immense potential as a designer!
1. Todd's logo was much better than that of Jaida. I was actually shocked to see so much inconsistency in Jaida's logotype - inconsistency of shapes used and sizes. Like you've said, idea was nice but execution fell short. 2. Maybe it was unintentional but Todd's logotype also provided some elements of plants - like creeping pea plants or roots and branches. 3. Todd could've also experimented by putting the Red Round Logo in place of 'O' in GROVE. Not sure how it will look though.
Lack of sleep can do a lot of things haha. But yeah, I recognize that my logo needs more work done so I'll definitely be revisiting and giving myself more time to refine things. 😅
