This is from a KBOO-FM radio broadcast at Old Main Theater, Portland State University, Portland, Oregon. Setlist: soundcolourvibration.com/2012/01/14/lds-040-robert-pete-williams/
I bought an LP of his, years ago, in a used record store, just out of curiosity. He's on a Robert Johnson trail, but he was quite an original in his own way. His style of doing a finger style approach ( or maybe he was using a pick?) was great. Then suddenly he goes off on a tangent playing single notes, sort of like lead guitar solo, but not really. I would sometimes wonder how he would get from the single notes back to the main chord themes. He pulled it off every time. Also impressive is how he would change time signatures and tempos during the song without missing a beat!
with all due respect, I disagree that Robert Pete was on a Robert Johnson trail (my opinion only). Other than the fact they were both superb african american bluesmen, I hear little resemblance in their respective guitar/vocal styles. My belief is that Robert Pete wasn't influenced by anything other than his own mind, or perhaps the sound of the wind (as I once read he stated in an interview).
....travelin. Blues. Mmmmm johnny cash..had to have heard him play 🎸....... Small gleams...rockablilly..delta. Country. Gospel..floats....HisVoice..... U heard hard life...the 🎸 becones thus woman. Or entity... He express his concerns. She conforts. The guitar becomes. Outlet.
How does one describe something like this. There are simply no words... This man played in colors and dimensions never seen before...

Doesn't his voice sometimes sound like David Honeyboy Edwards ?

Anyone know if this was from the Boston Blues Society--recorded at Harvard?
