This was at Court C Coffeehouse in Tacoma, we drove Fred to this concert, I was concert promoter for the Seattle Folklore Society, Fred was a very modern, outgoing gentleman with a sardonic sense of humor, very kind and pleasant to be around, of course I never made a dime on these concerts, we tried to get these greats two or three concerts in the area so they would go home with two or three thousand dollars, by playing concerts in colleges and clubs around the US and Europe, these original bluesmen had great second careers. Fred was playing a red Trini Lopez 335 Gibson, though I have always preferred his acoustic playing. His best stuff was on Arhoolie Records. I was very blessed to know and learn from Fred and all the great bluesmen who I came to know during this time, a half-century ago. Fred passed away from cancer one year after this performance.
"Hello, my name is Mississippi Fred McDowell and I do not play no rock n' roll" - best quote ever
"....jus' the straight 'n natch'l blues... play it with a beefbone.. dontcha know.. on ma rang finger..."
At 57:39, Fred has that place sounding like a rock concert with that kind of an applause! He’s also playing lead, slide, percussion, and bass all the same time.
Early electric Mississippi Hill Country Blues, ol’ Fred is the best for sure.
People looking for the real country blues , this guy was an expert . The real thing .
Achieving a guitar tone that is sought after to this very day
How does this get 7k views and only 47 likes?? (48 now with mine...plus 1 disliking troll) Wow..just amazing..worth being alive just once to listen to genius like this
I like rock, jazz, eavy metal, reggae, eletronic music... But the Mississipi blues change myself forever. This year i bought a guitar to play heavy metal. Now i am waiting for my ressonator guitar. When i see these old men playing with a cigarrete in the mouth, i see a part of my soul. Before Fred, i just like Robert Johnson. And with no intention, i wrote 2 songs about the devil. One song about a dream with the devil, i dreamed wen i was a child. The second about a story that the devil try to take my soul, but i hide. So the devil took of the rock and roll and put the blues in my mind.
This is real brilliant pure pure honest blues.Thank you so much for uploading.

those kids gotta move
To be fair, some people don't like teeth being knocked down throats, even if only in song. Probably just old days tough talk echoing down the line, but yeah. Tough stuff. :o
