What island is this at? And what is the name of that narrow canyon? Mahalo! Am I correct to assume that this was not originally a water slide, but a tunnel used to divert water from one part of the islan through a mountain via a tunnel and that so-called slide is really a spillway?! Sorry, I didn't see the link to your blog which obviously has the name and location to the hike!
Hey! Yeah, that's correct, it's an aqueduct thing for water coming from the jungle/canyons area, not meant for being a waterslide. the valley is the waimanu valley, and it's all on the big island! so beautiful!! Mahalo! :)

…I don’t think that’s a slide. If it’s made of concrete, which this appears to be, it’s probably not a slide.
Is it covered in moss for good sliding?
How deep is the pool at the bottom of the slide?
Like 8 to 9 feet I would say.
Is there a chance of a flash flood in this area where the tunnel is? Also what did you do when you encountered the boars? 😟
hey if there was a flash flood situation it would probably be obvious, you can kinda tell while youre there whats going on with the weather. If there were a flash flood, you wouldnt really be swept anywhere dangerous, at least not for about a thousand meters. The boars luckily just ran away from us every time we saw them in various places. I had a 'boar stick' when i was hiking near the waimanu waterfall, and saw some more big ones there, but never had to use my stick haha
