VIEWERS OF STEFAN!
Who are you and why are you here?
I'm an electrical engineer from Germany and do a little shopwork here and there... A little metalworking, some woodworking, repairing stuff, etc.
It's really enjoyable to watch the many, many skills of Stefan being applied to all sorts of projects with his usual attention to detail. Taken away a lot of do's and don'ts and tips and tricks. Also learnt that I don't need 1000m² shop floor space 😁
I'm on the us east coast, and want to be a machinist when I finish high school (or sooner, but I will be finishing school) and I am here to learn skills and to see new tools.
I'm a software engineer with very wide interests. I would love to be an entrepreneur some day, and I think it's very important to get a basic grasp of different disciplines that might be used in the manufacturing of physical items. I love that he explains the types of things that go into achieving precision. I also find that his videos are great to have running in the background while I do other things.
I’m a civil engineer from the prairies in Canada . I like to warch these videos because i grew up with an uncle and father who fabricated and woodworked. It reminds me of that. Plus i find Stefan has super interesting projects and methods.
I am in Perth Australia and a retired scientist. I'm here because I relate well to obsessive.
I'm in New Hampshire. I'm an astronaut, cowboy, race car driver, fireman, and a porn star. I'm here to learn more about machining and for entertainment.
The most amazing thing about this generation of machines is the fact that it was designed on paper and using slide rules!
Three things if I may.
1) Spectacular video on the coolest tool grinder I have ever seen!
2) If anyone knows the person who installed the "opposed tapered roller bearings" all in the same direction, please go to his car and install his front spindle bearings in the same direction, warn us and everyone you know to stay off the road, and record the crash for a RUclips video.
3) When you said "I got tons of these tapered diamond cone grinders with it ... (etc)" That statement made me mad because of the experiences I keep seeing and having at machine tool auctions in the USA. To clarify, ... During this time when manual tools and tooling are becoming available and affordable for the home shop owner (yeah) it is abundantly clear to me that many if not most of the auction houses are clueless as to what they are selling. That said, you can purchase items for pennies on the dollar, but the problem is that machine shops (especially in a bankruptcy situation) become disorganized. Where the shop was set up with a tool, lets say a mill, and beside it would be a bench, and just beyond that a tool box and cabinet with ALL the accessories for that mill TOGETHER. But when the mill goes to auction the tool box and cabinet are not anywhere to be found, and may not even be auctioned until a later date, or worse were already sold. I realise that this is part of the reason for the great price, but I would gladly pay much more for a complete tool with accessories and tooling if it were all together like you seem to have got here with your grinder. Congratulations, and thank you for letting me get that off my chest.
That is a magnificent and versatile machine - beautiful German engineering. Thanks Stefan.
Not level and no DRO? What an item you have purchased. Every viewer is jealous, whether they grind tooling or not! More “how to sharpen different cutters “ video needed ASAP Mr. Machinest. Your skill set and willingness to show us is getting legendary.
nice addition! I am green with envy. does it have locks/detents for primary angles or do all 25 axis need to be indicated to change setups? a quick release lever would be nice for that large primary axis... like a lever action tailstock.
looking forward to seeing more!
All those additional features come from older MAHO machines...have you checked your shop room for completeness these past few days...?
Nope, no detents or index-pins - But huuuuge graduated rings that allow to set angles fairly precise and quick without any additional measuring tools. If you can line up to marks to each other, youre probably well within 6 arc-minutes.
When you can turn your house into a multi shop fabrication facility life is VERY good. :-) Cincinnatti Monosets are quite the machine.
Mind blown, Stefan! This has got to be the ultimate tool and cutter grinder ever in existence! I have never seen anything like this ever!Congratulations on the new shop addition! I'm really looking forward to seeing it in more of your upcoming videos! I hope you and your family are doing well and this CV situation is not affecting you too much over the pond! Stay safe and healthy over there! Keep putting out the awesome content! I always look forward to seeing a new video from your channel! I always learn something new from every one! As far as who I am, my name is Dan Pierozak, I live in a small town in south central Pennsylvania. I have recently opened a small welding, fabrication and machine shop about a year and a half ago then quit my "corporate" pipefitting job about a year ago to grow the business. I am working towards getting into the performance automotive titanium fabrication and component industry and am planning on launching a product line by the end of the summer. I too don't have a huge shop, but you might call it huge. I have a 6.5 meter by 20 meter shop currently with all manual machines. I am shopping for my first CNC right now and am anticipating the day I bring one to the shop! Anyways, I hope this gives you a little insight into who I am and what I do and why I watch your awesome channel! Dan @6-4_Fab Glen Rock, PA, USA
First.
lol It is midlle of the night Stefan. :D
Cheater!
Arghh!!! I’ve been waiting for a vid from you and I missed 1st!!!
You and Robin have the best videos out there, I learn more info that I can use everyday from you guys than anyone else.
Sie sind immer die Nummer eins in unserem Buch.
@@kellerrobert80 LOL, unfortunately all those "first" posters won't get the irony or sarcasm.
You need a 2 wheel dolly that has straps and stair climbers. We cal them furniture dollys. Not sure if that’s the right name. But, I have one and have moved my Van Norman #10 into and out of a similar basement. It took a couple guys but it was well controlled because being strapped down, the frame of the dolly and stair climbers gave great grip.
Also, thanks for the new vid, always makes my day.
I considered one of those things :-)
But having a ground level shop for new machines was the easier and more straight forward solution :D
Plus: Daylight!
Buy yourself a Festool CT dust extractor - extremely high static pressure and a nice filter. You won't regret having more suction on that. Looks like a great grinder. Definitely more flexible than my Kao Ming 40S. So nice to have all the fixtures, they take an eternity to collect the hard way.
This has got to be the most envied tool purchase of the year. Congratulations!
Congratulations on your new acquisition, it is a very impressive machine. I could not imagine it finding a better home than yours.
Just when every machinist on youtube finally caught up to Stefan by buying D-bit grinder, Stefan upped the game with new machine. You just couldn't help yourself Stefan, could you? :-)
There is always a step up ;)
Next step up could be a EWAG WS11
@@StefanGotteswinter That thing looks like you could perform surgery with it. :D
There's a 1989 Deckel S11 for sale here in Sweden, I don't know why it's so expensive.. €22.000.
@@erik.... Because they are state of the art manual grinders, able to perform work and make money ;)
And now we know why that machine cost so much very impressive machine. But what is most impressive is your knowledge and skill. Keep up the good work my friend you are a joy to watch and learn from
The tool collection always expands to fill the space given! 😁😁😁
Very nice machine Stefan! Can't wait to see more of it in action.
ATB, Robin
Thanks Robin! Cant wait to use it more :-)
I am a simple man, I see a Stefan Gotteswinter video; I smash the like button.
why dont you marry it then
Awesome looking machine
It's a nice green colour too
ah yes, the infamous Gotteswinter tool envy...very very nice intro to the S1 and VERY nice pickup. congrats.
I would kill for domestic 3 phase...you are a lucky boy Stefan!
You now have the opportunity to have a clean workshop down stairs and a dirty (grinder)shop upstairs because lets face it....no matter how careful you are, grinder dust gets everywhere!
I love these old machines and this one one is a doozy and I want one lol.
Great video as usual Stefan, thank you for sharing, I'm sure you are going to have some fun with this machine....boys and their toys lol
Very small tools, very little material removal, infrequent & short duration use, and very effective dust extraction, means there shouldn't be much dust. He may use it to remove 1 cubic centimeter of carbide/steel/metal per month.
I am e retired mechanical engineer from the UK , enjoy watching your videos.
Congratulation to your new shop.
You’ll see it’ll fill with tools and machines faster than you expect it.
I can only walk side ways between machines. Just have to turn to be at another one. I collected for 60 years.
Now I cannot have more, nowhere to put it. That’s how you land up by 94.
wie schön, daß diese feine Maschine in gute Hände gekommen ist!
The title should be "Man gets room converted from junk room to workshop". This is an outstanding achievment.
3phase 400volt in bedroom, not for everybody. It is really good that in Europe you got 3 phase connection allmost everyhere!
What an amazingly versatile machine. If you are a serious machinist you would almost certainly want one in your workshop.
Hi Mr. Stefan, Another awesome and very educational video!!! I am a bit of newer subscriber to your channel!!! I must say you have some very excellent, well detailed and very educational videos i have seen on RUclips ( i also enjoy watching Adam Booth, Tom Lipton of Oxco tools, and Tubalcain (Mr Pete) as well as the Electrical/Electronics RUclips creators). I am a hobby machinist (my regular and to pay the bills and hobby full time job is in the IT/computer data analytics field rather boring and straight-forward) and have been catching up on your videos during this pandemic and can honestly say i have honestly learned (at least) 2 or 3 things from each of your videos, either brand new or improving/adding to something i have learned in the past. I also feel your videos have the perfect balanced amount of science, engineering/manufacturing, art and humor! I look forward to seeing all and upcoming videos you will be releasing down the road! My very best to you and all of your family and loved ones throughout the rest of 2020 and beyond!!! also hope that everyone stays safe and healthy during the Covid-19 virus pandemic!!!
I love the "I'll be back" as it is done in the proper accent, or as far as I can tell.
A great looking machine, in the hands of someone who knows how to use it! Fantastic.Thank you!
fantastic machine well found, not sure i could work how to use it with all those combination of adjustments great to watch you explain, i did buy a pentagrath after seeing the one you used to have great fun to use, thanks for the videos great info as always
That grinder beats my Gorton tool grinder in many ways! If I had a second room for machine tools I would move all my grinders into it. Keeping all that grinding dust in it, and away from my other machines. You are going to have fun with that new tool grinder, it is an amazing machine.
You are lucky to have such an understanding significant other!
What a beauty! And in such good condition as well. With all those wheel arbors and wheels you must be in heaven. Excellent review and description of operations.
Such a lovely lovely machine, I’m there with you when you swivel and slide those parts
Analytical Chemist turned Quality Engineer and home shop machinist mother South Coast IK. Stefan, Robin Renzetti and Steve at Solid Rock are my guilty pleasure.
Nice Machine Stefan. I hadn't seen one like that before.
It has long been my dream to put in an access that leads directly to my basement with steel doors and removable stairs with a quick removable way to set up a hoist above it to get things in and out of the basement shop. It would also be an easy way to increase the value of the house if is decided to put bedrooms in the basement when the house is sold. I really like this machine you just got and I can see why it cost so much back in the day.
Great video - would love to see more on tool and cutter grinding - it’s an art with not a lot of instructional videos out there
Renzetti is so jealous right now! 😂
He is already shopping for one.
News flash. European man arrested for turning suburban home into a machineshop lab! Neighbours shocked "he was such a quiet man!"
Congrats on your new acquisition. That is a flexible beast of a grinder :) Thanks for the nice overview of its capabilities. Stefan
A fantastic new grinder interesting.
What’s fantastic machine, incredible the amount of movements it has,
Its a bit overwhelming :D
That's quite the machine. Thanks for showing us and making us all jealous in the process.. Anything that speeds up and makes work in the shop more efficient is a great thing to have.
Very versatile machine and its in very good hands now.
I do love every swivelling, sliding, turning arm on this, but I think my favourite part is that whole heavy work head sliding effortlessly and second, that really cool indexing disk setup. What a great idea!!
Ebay prices of f1s just tripled! Here’s a good example of how it is all about the accessories. Get a great deal on a machine like this but without all the goodies and it is about as useful as a boat anchor. This one was very well tooled. Awesome machine. I don’t need ine but I want one anyway 😜
What a fantastic machine and intro video. Thank you for what you do.
Nice piece of equipment. Additional shop space looks good also, my first shop space had a dirt floor , no insulation and a home made wood heater. Man we had fun in that old shop
Holy smokes, that´s a versatile machine....congrats on purchasing that juwel....
That is a phenomenal little unit, I still dream of a Cincinnati #2, one day... one day.
Sweet, you just made my night Stefan 👍👍
Can't wait to see what you have planned for future installments, awesome find.
WOW !! This has to be the most versatile grinder I have ever seen !!
By far not ;-)
If you want your mind blown, look up the video for an EWAG WS11
ruclips.net/video/7Zl8FaAJ4jQ/видео.html
This video is invaluable! I have just purchased a T&C grinder and with no formal training this is amazing! Thank you.
A wonderful addition to the shop.
I like it very much, In my opinion the best workshops have moved out of the dedicated "workshop"! up until about last February my house was clear, first it was a BCA jig borer cabinet(machine is actually in the shed, cabinet is the TV stand), then its a few woodworking tools throughout 2019, then this February saw a Taylor-Hobson pantograph acquired and take up resident in the front porch! Just been given a 6x4 cast iron surface table, lugging that in the house though is not currently planned!
Marvellous I like it keep it up.
Okay quick update! The front porch now has 2 pantographs in it!, Picked up an Alexander 2c engraver, No brainer for £150 with all equipment to do machine engraving and with a 2cg cutter grinder with a few collets! Already have a earlier 2cg cutter grinder but only had 1 collet. (Fun fact, early Alexander d bit grinders use a smaller collet than later machines, late machines use the common U2 collets.) Was cheap as it needed to be moved up 2 flights of stairs in the centre of London by a major deadline! That casting was bloody heavy and that's only 100kg, that casting of yours is definitely not for stairs.
That's one impressive machine!
You’ve come such a long way since that original “chinese lathe,” when I first started watching. Still my favorite youtube channel...🇺🇸👌👍🏻👊🏻.
Thanks for showing us the Deckel S1. I wasn't familiar with this style of tool & cutter grinder before. It is a unbelievably well built and thought out machine and looks like it has been taken care of properly by the previous owners. It will make a great addition to the shop. Congratulations Stefan!
A room where even you can stand up mate! hhahaa, I love the fact that you find all this awesome old machinery :) as always love the video
What a beautiful machine. Thank you for the video. It's always nice to see you and I hope you are doing well.
A very nice addition to the shop Stefan.
That's a great machine! A little clumsy maybe but built to last. I have no doubt under your care with and some periodic maintenance, it could be around for a hundred years. I have had the privilege to use Deckel equipment in the past and was very impressed! They seem to have thought of everything in the design of this grinder with all of the attachments and accessories.
Hahahaha I can imagine Robrenz going crazy when he sees this :) PS you can make very good money in the US by sharpening those annular cutters, my work paid a fortune for them.
Stefan I really enjoy your content plus your personality. Hello from Australia.
A really well built grinding machine. Now to learn driving it.
Thanks! Thats a lot to learn ;-)
Congratulations, what an amazing machine!
Thanks for the video. Beautiful machine
22:43 is such an elegant technique - two free axes and a guide :)
That machine has more ranges of motion, gadgets and gizmos....Swiss army knife / multi tool of grinders....WOW !!!
Looks like a very useful machine! Thanks for the guided tour, very interesting.
Absolutely awesome. Great new machine for you! What an amazing find.
Congrats for your new jewel Stefan and thanks a lot for sharing all your nice works
Next time you are buying a machine , please film the inspection and decision making procedure if possible
Thank you again
Its a bit arkward to setup camera/tripod when beeing in somebody elses space ;-)
I am not made fot that :D
Thank you, Stefan, such a well filmed, and edited sharing, wow that is a very impressive machine!
I finally know where to send my kitchen scissors for sharpening!
Stefan, that machine in your hands is stunning. I could probably sharpen an axe with it, so I'm glad you found it instead.
Hold on to any partner who will agree to have 4 workshops in your home!
That is one nice T&C grinder . Cheers .
Wow 🤯! I'd be happy with a drill doctor 😏. I think that's actually a couple levels above being next level. Thanks for sharing! Cheers! 😁
VERY Cool , It found a good home where it is appreciated and will be properly used . . . . Thanks for Sharing !
Nice! I like the independent worm / dividing head. I have a small Studer cylindrical grinder, that would make a great bedside table:)
Congrsts on the new macine and room space!!
It's always a joy to see a pro at work - and I love the care and elegance in your work.
Thanks for sharing!
Awesome tool, great review/discussion/demonstration
thanks for the tour!
Thanks!
Lucky you Stefan! I always follow your videos with interest. I hope one day to have as many beautiful machines as yours. ... To be honest I'm a little bit envious. But at the moment I don't have so much space available. ... Sorry for eventual mistakes, I'm Italian. 👍

Hi Stefan, great machine, looks really nice. I have just started setting up my shop properly and am already running out of room, you have just given me the best idea possible for the spare room in the house, just the difficult conversation with Mrs Jon's Workshop to go now! Cheers, Jon
Lots of comments Stefan, nice machine to add to your collection , the only thing that comes to my mind is what your neighbors might be thinking when you bring another machine home ,
( What's that head case up to now ?.) As long as you're happy and content that's all that matters .
Hey Stefan, congrats on the new machine. Yes, always do what is safe. I have a surface grinder in my garage that I would love to get into my basement too but this thing weighs over 500Kg and is over 6ft tall assembled. I have a hatch from my garage down to the basement floor but anytime I look at what would need to be done to move the machine it always turns out to be safer to just leave it where it is.
What a great machine, well done mate.
Regards Alan.
I think that machine is one step up from Cincinnati monoset
With that slick dresser arm assembly.
Getting every accessory possible really makes that machine useful.
I’m impressed.
Maybe all the Cincinnati mono since I’ve been around are bare bones machines and all of the accessories lost.
Did you want to ship that machine to Alaska for me.
It also transforms into Optimus Prime. Sheesh, it’s the Swiss Army knife of grinders!
I think a Deckel S11, a Monoset or a Ewag WS11 would even be more universal :D
@@StefanGotteswinter ...more universal grinders than this?? that would be: " GTWR DIY custom (re)grinding universal grinder for grinding universal grinders"...as always, amazing video Stefan! :D
There is a distinct smell of an acquisition of some industrial real estate...
Not necessary, If I realy wanted to expand, I have enough space on this property :-)
I'm green with envy. That thing will sharpen anything from sewing needles to harvesting equipment.
I aint got no Deckel whiz bang cutter grinder so I better get back to my flat rock. Sigh!
Hey Forrest! Thanks for dropping by. Wait until I sharpen chainsaw chains on that thing ;-)
Need to go to school just to learn how to use this 1 machine to it's fullest . But you look like you have it figured out already.
Flipping heck! That tool holder on the right has 8 degrees of freedom. I'd never work out how to use them.
Stefan, Whit the new 4th. tool room, and the new to you machine.. It looks like you might have to build a barn like Mr.Pete 222.... Lol Just kidding you.. Thank you sir for video, and as always we'll keep watching... thank you
I would love to see how the cable spiral accessory works on that beautiful machine
I want one! oh well.. still Proud of my Quorn, but this, it's a completely different level, wow!
Excellent demonstration! Thank you.
Cut a hole in the floor, adapt winch to engine hoist and lower the machine straight down. When replacing the floor/deck, create a removable panel for future use. Securely frame and assemble the "hatch" such that it is safe, airtight, sound proof, and squeak proof.
