  • What a journey this has been for Ashlyn and I. First, we moved from Seattle, WA to Northeastern Kentucky, then we bought an Amish farm that didn't have Electricity, plumbing, or heat. We worked day in and day out to get the downstairs in our home ready so we could live in it while we finished the upstairs. Today we FINALLY got the lights on upstairs which will allow us to make some major strides on our barn home and on this beautiful homestead.

    You are providing an excellent example for other young people. The most important tool you are using is your mind to overcome and advance....but then you understand that. Keep moving and keep sharing...you two are doing very well.

    I am amazed that you are allowed to do your own electrical work! Here in Australia, it's illegal to do it yourself. Only qualified electricians & plumbers can work on your home if you want a Certificate of Occupancy from the Council. Great job for all the hard work you have put in. 👏 👌

    Electrician speaking from experience here, when hooking up your switches/outlets and anything else, use the wire cutters and strip a little more and on the small whole of the wire stripper hook the wires so that you can bend them in the direction of how you screw the screw(from left right) about 3/4 of the way around the screws. This is standard practice so that if the screw ever comes lose or you take the wire off and redo this somewhere else the wires don't just come loose.
    And if you hooked up those wires to a 20A breaker I hope that was #12 wire because that's what the code says. If you don't that could be a fire hazard. the wire needs to be able to carry 80% of the load. But all in all that looks like great work.

      @ThePasturedHomestead  8 месяцев назад +2

      Great tip, and yes we ran #12 wire for all our switches and lights

    Looks awesome! When you can do the majority yourself you not only save money but you learn valuable skills and feel an extra sense of ownership. There's just something about it that you can't beat. I know when I first did my first sump pumpwhen I worked at the home improvement store I had some who thought I should just hire someone but I said no I want to learn and was even more determined to learn. That look on your face there when you got it done and it all worked I know that well and it made me smile right along with you. Great job once again
