“How to” electrical videos
• How To Install Rough I...
• Electrical Wiring Basics
Don't put outlets directly below a window. If there is an electrical fire, you won't be able to get out by that window! Also, if you have a window near your toilet or in your bathtub/shower, be sure to use privacy glass so people won't be able to see into your private doings.
Many times electrical plans call for a receptacle under a window. And if the plans aren't followed you might be looking for another job. If you're wiring your own house and not in an area that requires inspection then you can pretty much put it where you want it.
I mean im js if my window was on fire I would walk out the door
U are a man of many talents
I hope you guys love it in Kentucky. It's a beautiful state. I will enjoy following your journey!
It really is a beautiful state! Such nice people as well! Thank you for watching, I hope you enjoy!
I love the way you think ahead...Setting the outlets in perfect positions on each side of the bed .
My OCD thanks me lol
Life changing move tbh
Great idea to have family and local neighbors over to celebrate Halloween. With all the craziness in the world it is a nice idea to let people have fun and keep them safe at the same time. If your neighbors are Amish, I am surprised that they would celebrate they would celebrate it. Thanks for all the helpful ideas and tips for running electric outlets and light switches. Nothing as frustrating as needing an electrical outlet and it being too far to access it.
Our Amish neighbors celebrate most American/English holidays!
U give lots of good tips
Hey nice work sparky!
Put plug-in's on every single wall!!! Sooner or later you will need them.
Make sure and spray foam all the cracks to the outside!
16oz claw hammer is what we used to measure electrical box height on walls. I was a journeyman back in the 70's-80's in Texas. We were wiring, 4 guys, 2 houses a day, around 1600sq ft project homes. All about the same floor plan. I liked doing commercial jobs better. Give me conduit and it'll be professional looking. Retired now.
i would hope that with all the barn roof sq ft and 26 acres you are going to be going the solar route, you have the advantage of plenty of space to orientate ground mount arrays for the best possible generation, plus the barn(s) are ideal locations for a plant room for the solar equipment and batteries ??, btw here in the UK light circuits are normally grouped upstairs & downstairs 240v @ 6amp, and sockets can be grouped by rooms/sections 240v @ 13 amps, 45 amp for electric shower, 20 amp for a electric cooker outlet, and there is preset heights to be building regs compliant 48 inches for light switches & 12 inches for sockets unless in a kitchen then can be higher, and no electrical outlets in the bathroom except a dedicated electric shaver socket, all sockets/outlets grounded of course
We would love to put in solar, something we have to save for of course. We also want to do a lot of rainwater catchment with all out barns
If you do I would recommend Wilderness Trace Solar out of Danville or Solar Solutions out of Lexington. Both have honest and knowledgeable staff, fair rates, and won’t oversell you a system.
And Batteries are very expensive and aren’t necessary unless u insist on being off grid.
I live in Kentucky also. Southeastern part. It is a beautiful state.
My husband and son are electricians. Blessings
Beautiful state! We love it here!
Interesting video
Also regarding fires, do you have an alternate way to get out of the bedroom. A fire ladder is a good choice
Wow, you're quite the knowledgeable handyman! Wish you could work on my house!
I was wondering how many acres now i know i still have a few videos to watch been watching them all night since i found your channel
Welcome to the channel! We have 26 acres. Enjoy!
2:36 Is all that light at the base to the outside? I'm in a small Dairy Barn also renovating although at a slower pace due to lack of funds but was going say if the outside light coming in best to caulk it before finishing. Or maybe you're doing it from the outside.
I waited through the first winter last year to find out where it leaked cold air before I did more than basic framing. Seems at the floor level even where the 2x4's are was air from the perimeter seeping in. So sealed everything well with construction & concrete caulk then added insulation.
And don't know how far along you are on the upstairs but I'm adding rafter ties, hurricane straps, and other metal supports with long screws where wood joins for high wind or even tornado to help minimize any future damage. Best of luck to you both.
Those are holes to the outside, we have patched some and will patch them all before closing up. Thank you for the advice!
Great video 👍🏿
If you don't mind my asking:
what at price range did you all fall into?
What method did you use to allow you to save so much?
We purchased for $250,000. With an expected renovation cost of $60,000. We were able to save so much because we didn’t have any debt before we bought. We payed down all our debt and then started saving! Hard work ethic and a frugal mindset can get you very far!
@@ThePasturedHomestead that is a lot of saved cash- not many ppl can do this. Good to start young.
Hi love your channel I have been bing watching today. Can I ask how you know how to do the joinery and electrics so well? Oh BTW I'm from Ireland so hi from Ireland x
Hello! Welcome to the channel! I did a lot of reading and watching videos to learn how to run the electrical. I also reached out to my inspector and electrical friend a few times!
That Amish have done their best to avoid the monthly bills.
Yes they sure have! It’s a way of life for them!
Electrical
you guys should go offgrid power
We would love to! We will start by slowly adding it to the property and hopefully eventually disconnect from the grid!
@@ThePasturedHomestead I can help you with that! I own MillerTech Energy Solutions LLC
I'll send you a catalog with components.
@@Millertechenergy Sounds great!
Hmmm...I dont know what the code is in your area, but here, your light switches have to be separate from your plugs. Might want to check on that bfr your next inspection...save you frm paying fir another one. How did you learn to do all this one?
Luckily our inspectors dont require that. We wired downstairs in the house the same way and that passed inspection! I learned from reading and a lot of youtube videos. Reading code sure is mind numbing lol
My house also passed with switches and plugs on the same line in Florida .
@@at347est well, I live in Cincinnati, and although there are alot of creative, forward thinking people here, none of them seem to be employed at the building dept...🤣😒🤣
How much are similar properties going for in your area? How did you find your place? Such a cool thing to do :)
I’m not too sure what other Amish properties are going for around here. It’s uncommon to find them for sale. We found ours on Zillow! You can find them sometimes! We are really enjoying our adventure and love the community we are in!
@@ThePasturedHomestead totally awesome, beautiful place you have!
In Maryland there are realtors that specialize in Amish houses sales especially in the Waldorf area. Before we moved back to my husband’s home state of Michigan we too were looking at Amish property in Maryland. 🙂
Will there or is there going to be plumbing video ??
No, We got all the plumbing done before the channel started! Im sorry!
@ThePasturedHomestead my husband and I are looking into buying an Amish farm as well with 20acres! Around how much did the plumbing cost if you don't mind me asking? Any complaints about living by the Amish?
Should gone with spray closed cell foam, nice work
We don’t have the extra money for new insulation right now but we are going to replace the roof and siding so we will insulate the house better when we do those.
@@ThePasturedHomestead Good luck with your project
