    The sky is bleeding red
The winds are furiously shaking the trees
    The animals are running scared
You feel like something terrible is just waiting to happen any moment
Like some terrifying monster is about to appear and rain fire and wrath down upon the land.

This was my very first God Of War. Yet I absolutely understood the significance of this moment and the meaning of the Blades for Kratos, what they stand for, what Athena represented... And I had chills all over my body when Kratos said “I know. But I am your monster no longer.” He is fully aware of what he is. He knows what he did. He knows what he is going to do. Now he doesn’t do it for fate or gods, but for his son. For the one thing that fills his being not with hate but with love and compassion. Thanks Cory Barlog for this masterpiece.

The weight felt in this scene is immense. Those blades are a constant reminder of the biggest mistake he ever made. A mistake that cost him everything. Turned him into the rage filled monster hell bent on vengeance that dethroned the entire Greek pantheon. Now we see him trying to be better than what he was now having to pick up the bottle he put down years ago to save the only thing that matters to him. Poetic really, the weapons that caused him and others so much pain and tragedy are his sons only hope.

Also, the same burden, the same reminder of Lord Ares and his enslavement, the weapon with which he killed Lysandra and Calliope.
It is said that the blades are cursed just as Kratos. Kratos cannot get rid of them, he throws them away and they show up again somewhere close. They're destined to follow Kratos wherever he goes forever. And the fact that Brok said they're special, since nothing in the 9 realms of Norse can create a spark in Helheim and Blades of Chaos does that like a flamethrower, just shows what Ares had given him from the depths of Hades made by Hephaestus.

This whole chapter.. Freya saying the frostaxe would be useless in Hellheim, Kratos saying: " Then I need to return home, dig up a past I swore to keep buried" (Does he mean the Blades of chaos?!) .. The boatride home where Athena appears (Could it be?!)
And then he pulls them from under the floor (Hell yes this is so awesome!!!)
Athena: "There's nowhere you can hide, Spartan. Put as much distance between you and the truth as you want, it changes nothing. Pretend to be everything you are not: teacher, husband, father. But there is one unavoidable truth you will never escape: You cannot change. You will always be a monster"
Kratos standing up, the blades returning to former glory in a blaze: "I know. But I am your monster no longer" And then the good old combat WITH the combos we know and love: Square square triangle...

As Kratos entered his home, memories of dread and sorrow filled his tarnished soul. What was once a cabin in the forest was now a thing he used to deny and hide his past. What sins and atrocities he committed were buried deep underneath the soil and wood of his new home. What rage and passion once burned inside him was dulled by years of guilt and regret. His son, his only hope to a brighter future was now in danger because of him. How could he be a father after all he's done? He was once a monster, and no amount of time could heal the wounds that scarred him. Physically and mentally. Opening the hatch, he saw a wooden box covered by cloth. Slowly, he reached down and took it. What he was about to do went against everything he swore to abandon. Opening it, black blades glimmered in the rays of sunlight that reached trough the cracks of his home. Hesitation was the only thing that came to him at that moment. But would it be stronger to resist it, or give into it, but use it for good? Feeling the blades, they were still sharp. Horrible memories came back. The echoes of his past reminded how much blood those weapons spilled in their lifetime. Forged from rage and death, their craving for battle never died. Would he be willing to wear them again? Grabbing the black chains, he wrapped them around his arms. This was a feeling he was all too familiar with. The scars on his arms that still bled shivered. Stepping outside, monsters and demons appeared.
    2:27
He had enough. Years of suppressing his true feelings and anger had led up to this moment. Gripping the blades tightly until his knuckles turned white, he let out the loud shout of a spartan, and began to slaughter..
He hacked and slashed at everything near him. Monsters, trees, stone, it didn't matter. The rage had been too much. He was unleashing everything he had at everything around him. The ground on which he was standing on was shaking from his aggressive strikes. The earth trembled at the once forgotten rage of the spartan. He was angry at the gods. He was angry at the monsters which attacked him. He was angry at himself for what he once was. With each swing and throw of the burning blades, destruction was imminent. The fire in his heart was back, and nothing was going to stop him. Gritting his teeth, he gripped the blades even tighter and swore on his own life, that he would save his son...

the game is one of the best ever made, let me explain
kratos, once full of hate anger and rage, he could kill gods, monsters, titans, nations
    without even thinking twice
the person who killed everything and everybody, the person who works for himself, for revenge
    on every god
at the exact moment where atreus was ill and he needed to save him
at that exact moment he would do anything to save him
and most important, he begged freya to help him
he was on his knees begging a god for help
he will use the blades, he swore never to use again
    he accepts his past
    what he did
    what he will do
    and
    what he does
he used the blades he once killed his wife and daughter to save his son
at that moment kratos, the monster changed
    everything for one person
    and that person is atreus
that was the best and probably the most emotional part of the game for me
    and believe me,
brok said they forged mjolnir and knows what quality is, and the blades are something special,
you cant set the power of mjolnir and the BoC at same level
now think what would happen if thor or even odin lays hand on atreus
he will turn into the monster he once was, but to save and protect his son
imagine kratos, full of anger hate and revenge, now fighting for someone
    that my guys
thats the part you need to understand

But there is one unavoidable truth you will never escape: you cannot change, you will always be a monster. I know. But I am your monster no longer

I was very sad when I saw them. Inside them there is a great tragic lore.
These blades represent for Kratos pain and more but he has to use the past to saving the present.

The only reason you feel anything in this scene is simple, music, fantastic body language/acting and animation, also the way the camera moves. It goes to show all these little things add up to make a scene memorable. I knew what the blades of chaos were but I never played the original games at all, only a demo of God of war 3 on ps3 and that was it.
But damn I felt everything in this. The way he strokes the blades, the way he puts hand on the gatekeeper after he takes its heart, almost like he’s apologising. You feel the weight of what these blades hold over his soul, he hates them, but needs them. Utterly fantastic. I’ve been playing games since I was 9 on the ps1. And this was the most memorable experience I’ve ever had in game. I’ve played it 5 times already
I love it. It’s up there with The Last of Us 1 and dare I say it’s actually better. Well done to everyone who worked on this game. You made a masterpiece and it’s unreasonable to ask for lightning to strike twice (pardon the pun) but man I hope it can with Ragnarok.

Wrong, the only reason why you feel anything in this scene is because it's highlighted as important. If you never played the old ones you're like "oh this must be an important momment",
If you have played the old trilogy you know exacly how important it is because you have seen the real Kratos in his deepest, in his peak as a written character. Gow 4 is the weakest of all God of War games in all regards, especially gameplay. The only thing it has more than the old games are graphics.

@@cloudshifternow kraos is a better writer character and the story and emotions were so much better here than just graphics bro, it was better and the weakest one was gow ascension, and what you said is wrong, highlighted as important is absurd, people who played the og trilogy and played this will know about kratos's past and the memories, everything about it, not just highlighted as important

After going back and playing most of the old series kratos and the blades became one of my favorites in gaming history. And after playing this game years after god of war 3, I could only think one thing when I got the blades again.

I honestly love listening to game OST's. And the God of War 4 OST is hands down one of the greatest ones ever made, it tops any of the Halo, Gears of War, and Assassin's Creed OST's. Not to mention it's better than all of the COD soundtracks as well

An angry yet *composed* Kratos exited his cottage, walking through the specter of Athena. "Alright, brother," Mimir said excitedly, "Let's see what those blades can do!"
