Let's not forget that at the beginning of the game, when this fight takes Place, Kratos had all his stats maxed (they get cut down by the souls in the river Styx when he falls from Gaia later on) and he has the Blade of Olympus, and yet he still needs to fight Poseidon 2 vs 1 with Gaia in order to defeat him...1 vs 1 in his water avatar, Poseidon was pretty much invincible.

That's not how that works. He didn't need Gaia or the Blade. If he didn't have those, he'd have found a way to beat Poseidon, he just used what he had on hand.

I think it gets less attention because it uses a lot of songs from GoW 1 and 2. But the trilogy overall has a fucking classic soundtrack I guess most people acknowledge this.

The classic god of war series ost is peak, everything ranging from the ambience to the fight music. It even gives you the scale of certain fights and boss fights, it also sets the mood for alot of the areas. Its good to listen, i even listen to it on my free time. I dont know about the new sound tracks from the two new GOW's, it has its moments but thats it.
Literally one of the absolute best intros to a video game. The gameplay, visuals, music, and scale gets the player invested in the game right off the bat!

To this day, I still give him the name of Leviathan, both in homage to the original sub-boss idea and as a way to set him apart from all the other Hippocampi. I mean, the others that showed up could only hold Gaia in place until Kratos freed her, whereas this one little badass almost *killed* her!

I started this franchise with GOW 2018, and played Ragnarok after that. I am so glad i went back and played 1,2, and 3. Best video game franchise of all time. Never a dull moment in these games

I remember being like, 12, and playing God of War 1 and thinking the Hydra fight was cool but not amazing, and I dropped that game. Then I fought Poseidon and did the same. Now, I finished God of War 4 and decided to go back to 3. The boss fight with Poseidon alone was better than all of GoW4 in terms of combat. I love GoW3 now. I'm in my first playthrough currently and just killed Helios.
So here's one of the things some of us are missing in the new games... the frequency of intensity like this. Both the frequncy of music with intensity like this, the intensity, savagery and uncontrollable rage of the character (Kratos) and the intensity of the kind of fights the music is meant to evoke. The depth of emotion conveyed in dialogue and visual expression was undoubtedly superior in the new games. There's no questioning that. The issue is there is no reason you can't have both. And we don't have both in the Norse saga. The new saga didn't need to dial down quite so many elements of the original games. No reason to cater to people who couldn't handle it.

Kratos was a small, mobile, intelligent fighter, and fought each of them one on one. That's how he won. ***** Kratos had the help of Gaia, and really only directly beat up a beaten Poseidon. And the reason Poseidon was so weak compared to, say, Zeus - is that he was pouring all his power into that gargantuan water form. No power left to his own body, and well... People tend to forget Poseidon is literally the second best god being only weaker than zeus, he is the second in command after zeus and he is of the big three, which is zeus, Poseidon and hades. These three are basically on a whole other level
everything aside. No game series can match the level of music this game uses.

As epic as this boss is, the second most powerful god in the pantheon should not have been a first boss. Same with hades. They should have both been endgame opponents along with Zeus
I agree, the 3 main ones ( Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus) should've came last, but I don't mind it to much. In my opinion, I think they did Poseidon right, gave him a badass boss fight and really good theme.
Agree. At least it took Kratos and Gaia working together to beat him. And Poseidon actually was holding his own against them both pretty well.
Well they had to give the game a killer opening. What better way to do that than turn the scales up to 11 and duke it out with Poseidon?

i am the only who thinks, poseidon with all criatures, horses lol, can battle with 2 titans at the same time?
Yet kratos beats the living crap out of him.
Saredodevil He can do battle with 3. Seriously, aside from Kratos, there was no challenge to the Gods by the Titans. They were big, lumbering, slow morons. Kratos was a small, mobile, intelligent fighter, and fought each of them one on one. That's how he won.
***** Kratos had the help of Gaia, and really only directly beat up a beaten Poseidon. And the reason Poseidon was so weak compared to, say, Zeus - is that he was pouring all his power into that gargantuan water form. No power left to his own body, and well... Easy pickings for the former God of War, lol.
That shows how strong he is, he's the 2nd strongest Olympian God just behind Zeus.
