    Wait...I am really appalled with this comment section. Not that the majority contains very racist and insulting comments (like 99% of youtube videos). But that this film was based on an ACTUAL EVENT. Although, I know I am a history fanatic, but does NO ONE heard of the story about Seretse Khama? The film is based about the life of the future Botswana president in the 1940s who was living in the U.K at the time. Botswana at the time was under British rule and Khama belonged to one of the most powerful tribal family in the country. He was expected to return to Botswana and succeed his father as the chief of his family. Until, he met a British lady called Ruth Williams and which he makes a hard decision to marry her despite all other circumstances. This romance film rather depicts the struggle of Khama and Ruth their fight to be accepted by the people of Botswana and against racist political system of neighbouring countries such as South Africa at the time. The struggle was truly a magnificent story as the couple refused to become successor of the family's "chief" but instead created the newly independent country- Botswana and broke away from British rule. For many years, Khama and his wife have managed to boost Botswana's economic growth and stabilised any political tension. And to even to this day, Botswana remained one of Africa's most peaceful and richest countries as Khama's son- Ian Khama is the current president of the country, continuing the magnificent legacy of Sereste Khama. Before, people start call this film unoriginal or cliche, why not try spend a little time researching what the film is about? Thumbs up so people REALLY KNOW WHAT THIS FILM IS ABOUT!!

    I met him-Sir Seretse Khama. I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Botswana in the mid-'70s. My Motswana supervisor was a good friend of his, and when Sir Seretse came up to Maun for a visit, he introduced me. Nice guy. Honorable. The Batswana loved him. But this was long after the events depicted in this film. My understanding then was that he was not King of Botswana, but the heir to the chieftainship of its largest tribe-the Bomangwato people. He gave that up in order to become the first President of the country after British rule ended there. That was in 1966. I served in 1974-76.

      +NickDixon what are you talking about you foolish little person. Humans feel they are this god like creature with all this rich lore and history. Holding onto the past to define their future. When looking at the age of the earth one person lifetime is not worth the spit in the ocean. So what is my point? The short time we spend on this earth should focus on moving towards progress and happiness not living in the past and wishing to be a dinosaur. Blink and you may actually miss out on on happiness.

    I am quite happy to see this story being told. It is quite an inspirational one and one that I wish had been told far sooner. Sir Seretse and Ruth Khama are a symbol over how people can look beyond skin colour and find love and humanity in people they had been taught to see as each other as an "other" over such stupid parameters. It's an inspiration that we can have as a society in the USA, Canada, the UK and across the world as a whole. I'd highly also suggest that people visit Botswana, which is an amazing country with an amazing people.
    That said, I'm still cringing at the historical butchery present in the film when you know that the reason they were exiled was due to the apartheid South African government and not due to "Hahaha we need to keep the Empire!".

I am sick and tired of people today still not agreeing with interracial marriage. I think it is beautiful. And at the end of the day, we humans are dust. White and black will return to the ground. Let's stop this hate and realise that we are all humans who can work together for good, regardless of ethnicity!

      Yeah ashamed to be British thats what these movies are intended to do, you go to Korea and do they say they are ashamed to be Korean because of some love story ? Nigeria ? No. Wait until you find out Africa had millions of white slaves and the people who traded in black slaves were nearly entirely Jewish and they worked on 80% Jewish owned cotton farms. Wait until you find out the people guilty of subversion are culprits of the original crime.

If an African baby was sent to the UK and raised by a family over here he'd be just like us. Granted genetics do play a part in who they are. But genetically not all African people are stupid. Its the environment they're in that molds them, not their DNA necessarily.

      Shalom Skekelbergstein It's almost as if you people have never heard of the expression before. Typically, when someone states the current year as I did, it's not simply to announce the date, but to draw attention to the fact that we've been on this earth for a long enough amount of time that certain injustices should not be happening. Welcome to the english language, where we use turns of phrase to get a point across to those competent enough to understand.

      Mahikeng was a prosperous city during the 20th century and served as the adminsitrative capital of Botswana. Mahikeng was also used by South Africans during Aparthied and most of its leaders in SA today who are freedom fighters are from Mahikeng. He also didn't play as much of an impact in the freedom of Black South Africans during Aparthied. Instead countries like Tanzania provided refuge.
      He was a great man yes... but every one has their flaws. The worse of all being to abandon Mahikeng ppl, Rusternburg which still had to live under Aparthied rule at the time.
      Borders were made by whites... we as Africans need to liberate all of Africa, we basically the same. Ppl from Mahikeng speak Setswana (From Bostwana), ppl from Free state South Africa speak Sesotho (from Lesotho) and finally ppl from Mpumalanga South Africa speak Swati (from Eswazini).

  • @LittleRedWhine

    Hollywood has a huge issue with putting black men and white women together so this film is a step in the right direction. The "Audiences Don't Want to See Black Men Taking Our White Women" thing is so ingrained in Hollywood culture that Will Smith claims that Cameron Diaz lost the lead role opposite him in the movie Hitch because producers were worried about "the nation's problem of seeing a black man and a white woman getting intimate." The film version of Pelican Brief completely removed the romantic elements between the characters played by Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington to avoid this. There are very few movies with black men and white women. Searching my brain there is only Rachel Getting Married and one of the couples in Love Actually. Before that, I can think of the racially charged Guess Whose Coming Together in 1967. Which they remade with Zoe Saldana and Ashton Kutcher.
    There are surprisingly a lot of films with the races reversed however: The Bodyguard, Die Another Day, The Score, Boiler Room, Mission Impossible II, Austin Powers in Goldmember, Avatar (kinda), The Princess and the Frog, Star Trek the movie, Star Trek the TV show, Scandal and just about every movie Hallie Berry's ever been in. If you look up a list of interracial couples in movies in films, more than 80 percent are going to be black women with white men.
    Films like this coming out are actually incredibly important in steps to separate from this completely awful prejudice that has been pervasive in films for years. Doesn't mean we couldn't use more interracial couples with black women in Hollywood: we definitely do! This is just a good step towards separating from an incredibly terrible and recurring problem with Hollywood.

    • @LittleRedWhine
      @LittleRedWhine 7 лет назад +2

      I actually do argue about that! Hollywood has a huge issue allowing Asian men to be leading men and love interests. Asian men in media have had a tendency of being incredibly de-sexualized. Some television shows have begun to change this with romantic leads in sitcoms like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmitt and Master of None. A notable example would also be The Walking Dead. But it is few and far between. The only somewhat romantic movie I can think of between an Asian man and a white woman that immediately comes to mind is The King and I (which is only romantic in sub-subtext). This issue existing, however, doesn't negate all of the other weird issues Hollywood has with race issues and interracial relationships.
      I don't really know where you are coming from with your comment and bringing mating bears from different subspecies does make me worry about what you could mean, but I just think Hollywood should be less afraid of rocking the boat and represent all of the many different kinds of love and relationships out there. But judging by this comment section, I wouldn't necessarily bank on them risking pissing so many people off.

    • @AmeRain
      @AmeRain 8 лет назад +10

      +Brian Kovac people just get offended too easily, don't think of it like that. I doubt that's the message the director was trying to get across

    • @AmeRain
      @AmeRain 8 лет назад +2

      +Brian Kovac I'll take your word for it but I don't give two shits to be honest, if it's a good film it's a good film, if not it's not. I'll prob not end up seeing anyway cause I don't have a girl to take with me.... And I'm not seeing this as a man on my own xD

    • @AmeRain
      @AmeRain 8 лет назад +2

      +Brian Kovac you sound like your off your meds mate, I'm British and proud of being British and if I happen to think this film doesn't look that bad it doesn't change that, plus it's a film that really no ones gonna see and if they do see it they most likely won't see this big political message that your on about. I think your over exaggerating a lil bit mate

    • @AmeRain

    • @katiemaciver760
      @katiemaciver760 8 лет назад +9

      HIGHLANDKING1 I am so confused with what you are trying to say; and I'm assuming you are saying you don't like the flow of different cultures and ethnicities into 'White Countries' because you think 'the White Race' will diminish.
      Just so you know that generally speaking 'White Countries' are (to put simply) better off for a whole host of reasons. And because of this people emigrate so that they can have a better life for themselves and their future generations. There is nothing wrong with trying to do the best you can in your life.
      And also who gives a damn who you marry and have kids with? If you look at your genetics and ancestry you'll probably find you've got a whole load of different ethnicities wrapped up in you. In fact I will go as far as saying that it would be surprising to find a group of people who couldn't be tracked back to having some sort of 'White race' in them. History lesson, the British Empire at one point encompassed most of the globe, so all those white men went off on boats to new and exciting lands and banged a whole load of women and had children.
      The 'White Race' is not dying. The human race as a whole is just evolving.

      @brownegg2764 7 лет назад +9

      Nyctohylophiliac Then enlighten me. Isn't racism learnt behaviour? A child is not born into this world racist. So explain to me how am I brainwashed and why racism isn't about hate?

    • @dguy8804395
      @dguy8804395 7 лет назад +1

      As a child you see that people appear different from you and your family... your family and those who communicate with you are there to explain this because as a child you cannot figure it out on your own. Their opinions as well as others opinions that you gather through the years alter your perception on people of other races. Racism I wouldn't say is about hate, but things like ignorance, low self-esteem and extreme prejudices.

    • @Nemophilist850
      @Nemophilist850 7 лет назад +1

      dguy8804395 It's the most natural thing in the world, and has been the norm for the bulk of our history as a species. It's multiculturalism and multiracialism which is the real aberration.

    • @brownegg2764
      @brownegg2764 7 лет назад +2

      Nyctohylophiliac I wouldn't say it's natural because of ingrained ignorance, the world has became more globalised, we can actually speak to people in a different country; whether on the internet or not. We have more understanding now so how is it natural, when 3/10 people are racist and the majority aren't?
