  • Lots of RC brands out there have come and gone but very few have been able to really gain a footing in the modern RC world. In this video we're going to highlight these brands that have risen above the others and those still trying.

    Ok, Tekno didn't invent the 1/10th scale Truggy, that was actually HoBao. Thing is, when HoBao came out with the Hyper TT10e, most companies betted on it being a fad and ignored the new class, except for Traxxas which came out with the Rustler 4x4 but that wasn't intended for racing. And as a result, the class died off after a couple years. Tekno and XRAY brought it back.

    The whole "I don't care if it's good, I ain't buyin' it 'cause it's not got the reputation" thing is what killed Tenth Tech, Durango and Team Magic and nearly killed JQ Racing, and I'm kinda surprised that it didn't kill Tekno. If people had that same mindset back in the days of racing Astutes, Associated would be just another "on road brand that thinks they can do off road" and Losi wouldn't even exist today. Nor would Traxxas, actually. They may be a huge pain in the ass for the hobby today but they did also contribute to its growth, and way back in the early days they did actually not only make competitive racing models, but even focused primarily on them. If the TRX1 and TRX3 were just kicked to the curb like what happens with new cars from new brands today, well... there'd be a lot less corporate bullshit in the hobby but the hobby would be a lot smaller as well... assuming it manages to survive the downturn it experienced in the late 2000s at all.

    Ok, the MRO is the embodiment of everything wrong with the direction 1/10th scale off road has taken. A design like that I don't see ever running well on anything other than its intended surfaces. It's less a buggy and more a 4WD F1 car that can take jumps. Heck, in your turf track footage, the car shows terrible bump handling, getting bounced around all over the place on turf. I'm sure it's a great technical achievement and it looks pretty sweet on its own, but I feel that every continued push towards these overspecialized carpet cars is going to continue to make the sport less and less accessible.

    Recently there's also G-Force RC from Japan that released their first kit , the Genova designed with Masami. Its a weird take on retro design but for modern track ? They call it an entry level kit but the price kinda isn't. Anyway , good video as always.

    • @MikeKirkReloaded
      @MikeKirkReloaded Год назад +1

      That Gforce Genova is another release of the same generic buggy that JEGS started selling as the 'Stinger' months earlier. Masami only had input on the body and wing: the basic 2wd platform is from a nameless asian factory - and Gforce slapped their stickers on it.

    What about Traxxas and Team X-ray????

    • @RoachRC
      @RoachRC  Год назад +1

      Traxxas and X-ray have been around for a while.

    • @VestedUTuber
      @VestedUTuber 7 месяцев назад +1

      Traxxas is an OLD brand at this point, and they also don't really make any racing vehicles outside of Slash and Bandit spec classes (and they're also the source of a lot of corporate BS today). But back in the day they had the TRX1 which was actually a pretty competitive buggy for its time, and then later the TRX3 which is the predecessor to the Bandit.
      XRAY's been around for a while, they're just a bit obscure in the US where people tend to shun anything that isn't Associated or TLR. But XRAY's won several IFMAR events. They popped up in 2000 but company founder Hudy Jiraj has been designing and building high-performance RC race cars since the 70s back in the early days of pan cars derived from competitive slot car designs.
