Total blast singing along with my 13 Year old Self. I can’t believe it’s been 50 years since the Top of the charts. Thank you 70s on 7! Keep rockin the 70s!
Wow. Throwback to my childhood. My sister always ruled the record player, so I heard this song alot. Listening now after 51 YEARS, I think I actually knew all the words. It was great with you singing along. I can't hit those high notes either! So great to hear you and your song! I hope you and your family are well.
Thirteen year old me loved the hell out of this song. I went searching for it today for nostalgia and happened upon this. Glad to hear you still in good voice. LOL
I can't imagine how weird it would be to be driving along and hear yourself singing on the radio from when you were a kid! This is such a happy song! I love hearing you singing along with it! Please don't ever remove it! (Cool car, BTW!)
Damn it, how I wish I'd been in the back seat riding along, just like when I was a kid, and singing at the top of my lungs. Makes me realize what my folks went through. Still loving it!!!
Mr. DeFranco - if I remember correctly, this song was released in May of 1973, nearly half a century ago! It was the very first song I remember waiting around for WABC-77 AM New York to play when I was 11 years old, and it was also the first 45 I bought with my own money! You and your talented siblings inspired me to form a rock & roll band with my own friends after my parents got me an electric keyboard in 9th grade, and I have enjoyed making music ever since! This song was such a perfect combination of youthful exuberance, and great musical talent, not only the singers, but also the musicians (I believe those were members of the "Wrecking Crew" backing you up in the studio, with the incomparable Hal Blaine pounding out the "heartbeat" on the drums?) and of course the arrangements (I believe Tom Bahler arranged those soaring background vocals?) The song itself was an amazing bit of songwriting by Williams & Kennedy, featuring a very unusual modulation between the verses in a minor key and the choruses in a non-relative major key. Looking back, it couldn't have been a more perfectly conceived, produced and performed pop song - certainly the BEST from that era! Thank you for the decades of enjoyment you and your family have given all of us with this music which sounds just as good today as it did 50 years ago! Rock On, DeFranco Family!
Love to know how many other people were listening to that radio station on that day as they drove along that freeway not realising that there was Tony with them, on the radio and on the freeway.
Always like the DeFranco family, they were up there with The Osmond's and The Jackson 5. Thanks for posting this, Tony. The really funny thing is, I can't remember what I did last week, but I remembered every single word to this song. LOL. LOL.
This is fantastic! Thanks for posting, loved this song when I was 8 in 1973 and love it still. Tony you were so cute, scream! And on the cover of Tiger Beat too!! And you can still sing!!
OMG....I just bought a 2023 Kia Rio and part of the perks with buying the car I get to listen to Sirius radio for 1 year. The first song that I heard on the 70s on 7 Channel was Heartbeat it's a Love Beat. Man did that bring back some memories. I love you guys, always have and always will.❤
I absolutely love this. I kid you not, I wore out this album so many times, I lost count. Still love this song 50 years later. Tony, thank you for sharing this, so awesome! Had to be pretty cool hearing yourself on the radio from all those years ago....my favorite part "crap I can't go that high" LOL 3>
Your "adult" voice is amazing, too, Tony! I was 11 when this song came out, and love it as much now as then. Thanks for sharing! I'm suddenly a young girl again, reading Tiger Beat magazine ❤❤
I discovered this song in the late 80s when I was a kid we moved in with my grandma and I found a box of 45's in the top of my bedroom closet. Now 2024 my kids are singing along in the car!!!
You'll like this. I was a club DJ in the '90s. Techno, 12" HiNRG, but I used to throw in oddities, AM Gold gems, '80s sets, and one night I cold slammed out of something into this at like 2:00 AM... the crowd went WILD. I was delighted by nearly everyone chanting along, fists in the air. Unforgettable.
Love you forever Tony! You rocked then and it's still cool!!! ❤🎉 I listen to Siruius XM 70s too and love it when this comes on! 😍 I think it's cool that we're riding along with Tony in his car!!! Lol
You still have that great voice. What has happened to the rest of the group? Your brothers & sisters did a great job too. I wish you could have continued. I went to an Amusement Park in Kansas City, MO with my now husband & 2 friends to watch all of you. It was so fun. That had to been at least 50 yrs ago, because my husband & I just celebrated our 49th Anniversary. BIG plans for next year. Come help us celebrate...I'd love it!
The same giggle I get when it comes on 70s on 7. I sing along until I realize I’m in a convertible and getting some odd looks. 😂 you can’t help but feel good.
I'm so glad I found this. I had the biggest crush on you! I had to have every Tiger Beat Cover with you on it!! I am so glad to see you having fun with your younger self.
Wow. You can still sing. When many boys transition into men, their voices can change so much that they no longer have a "good" voice for singing. So glad to hear you again after all these years. (I'm your age, so it's been a while.)
This has to be so strange for you to hear yourself singing back when you were a kid but yet cool at the same time. I’m sure it takes you back because I know it took me back. I was very young when I heard this song but my mom would crank it up on the radio and she played the record at home for years. You made my 55 year old heart happy today. I so enjoyed hearing you sing along with it today, you’re still just as awesome! Rock on DeFranco Family and thank you for such happy, fun, innocent memories with this song! This song and the DeFranco Family are a treasure to all of us fans. Love to you and your families.❤
Wow, what a cool video. 50 years on that song still rocks. It shades anything the current boy bands are coming out with. You just made this 58 year old's day. Best wishes Tony and thanks.
I had my ear glued to the radio waiting for this song to be played! It’s all my friends and I could talk about.. that and waiting for the Tiger Beat latest addition. Thank you for the upload and your sing along, it brings back a ton of memories and a simpler time when things were easier.
Thanks so much for posting Tony! 😄 Great memories!! Way too funny that I was just listening to "Save the last dance for me" album today!! Listening makes me feel young at heart! ❤️
UPDATE: I just got my vinyl record of this song today! Looks original so I'm very happy , I bought a record player just so I could listen to it. Hey Tony, how about an autograph to complete my set?! 😁👌
Great tune. Did you know the new wave act The Rubinoos covered "Gorilla" for a 1975 single? It's also on the "Beserkley Chartbusters" compilation album.
Wow .What going to C M T , now a subdivision and living on Schofield Ave , in Port Colborne can do to a person. Look out Dino Foresi , is in the car behind you on the freeway .
Wow! Hi Tony, here’s hoping you reply to comments if you have time. How are your siblings doing? How weird was it to hear your 13 year old self on the radio now?
Better times and definitely better music
Wow. Throwback to my childhood. My sister always ruled the record player, so I heard this song alot. Listening now after 51 YEARS, I think I actually knew all the words. Hi Tony, this was the song that made me and my brother and sister ask Santa for a record player in '73. What a great time for music
I just discovered this song yesterday, and I can't stop listening to it!! It's an awesome song
I.cant.believe.its.been.that.
Long.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My brothers probably still have nightmares over me playing this over and over again.
Yes we do! Now won't be able to sleep will have to have my daughter check under the bed for prepubesnt boy singers.
Yes, yes we do.
It is a great song. Even future generations will love and enjoy it. The appeal will always be there. Best part is when you growl at “any longer.”
Thanks for sharing this. Love this song and Abracadabra
You still got the pipes Tony! I loved you back then, I was 11 when it was released.

My kids said they will play this at my funeral so it will be the last time they hear it 😂. They don’t know good bubblegum music when they hear it!
I love hearing your joy in hearing your old song.
Thank for the memories!. The DiFranco family is loved more than you know. Many love beats going out to you.❤

Oh, and I was born in 1970, but still have my sister's 45 of this, plus a couple I've picked up over the years.
All that's missing is the 93KHJ jingle, and the Real Don Steele announcing the song.
Love you forever Tony! You rocked then and it's still cool!!! ❤🎉 I listen to Siruius XM 70s too and love it when this comes on! 😍 I think it's cool that we're riding along with Tony in his car!!! Lol
Thats awsome Tony
Thanks for the big smile today Tony! You still got the singing pipes! Hearing your adult voice layered over your teen voice is amazing!

I did a drum cover of it after I heard it on.....that channel...lol
What a gas Tony!...actually, a shot of balloon helium and you might be back on the charts!
Tony you changed.
Next up...In a little while from now...
Wow! Hi Tony, here’s hoping you reply to comments if you have time. How are your siblings doing? How weird was it to hear your 13 year old self on the radio now?
Driving the 401 ???
I sure hope you still get paid from this awesome song
Wow. The K=Tel version was seriously inferior to this. ☮ + from Toronto, paisan.
I cant believe someone driving with this large thing on the dash of any car. Disgraceful and an accident in the making. Society at an all time low.
Who asked you?
If that gets you twisted, I guarantee you a challenging future! 😳😵💫
