I’ve seen people being bullied online for saying they don’t like the Monsterverse, and it is really stupid. Almost every single Godzilla post on social media is a battlefield. There is this channel called “The Lore Dive” that makes Monsterverse videos and community posts, and their community is VERY toxic. Each video or post they make has so many people fighting over things.
I mean I do enjoy the Monsterverse but I have a lot of problems with it. Not to mention I get annoyed by debaters and power scalers. Almost everyone is arguing about petty things, no one is civil anymore. Not to mention the disrespect towards the toho films…like you wouldn’t have your precious MV if it weren’t for Toho.
What the hell exactly are they leaving? A discord server? A damm twitter tweet? An Instagram post? Tf does like anyone means when they say they're leaving the "community" it's the Internet people come and go.
hate how much people in the godzilla fandom argue, godzilla is a very flexible character in terms of how you can right him, from a force of nature anti hero, a creature in constant pain/symbol of the dangers of nuclear weapons, to a cutesy little guy for kids. the point is that dont discriminate based on which continuity of godzilla they like the best
I hate when people become very disrespectful to film critics - people really don’t understand anything about filmmaking, the MonsterVerse isn’t cinema, they are content. The MonsterVerse isn’t meant to be a cinematic masterpiece and that’s ok. Although the KOTM doesn’t count and it is poorly written and I can sort of tell what the writers were trying to do, and failed badly. Only good thing is the Godzilla action. Godzilla 2014 is I’m quite sure is cinema. When GXK came out, fans were so immature and threw hate and hate towards anyone who criticised it. The world needs criticism, that’s life - anyone who disagrees with that has to be a drop kick. I don’t think these man childs done anything in their life besides eat Doritos. The film critics are just doing their job, although there are biased critics deliberately trashing on GXK. Which is like what the hell. The Rotten Tomatoes site is pretty messy, it’s sort of misunderstood. Not all critics are paid to make fake reviews. There are paid critics and audiences to write fake reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes site, I knew that for a long time, and I can roughly spot it. I’m not going to explain the facts about filmmaking and film criticism because that’ll take forever. I just hate how stupid fans and people can be, and fall for blood sucking consumerism, and have an IQ of 20. The Jurassic fanbase is becoming very stupid, I have no issue with people who like Dominion, my issue with fans is when they are blood sucking consumers that lack critical thinking and fall for stupid marketing tricks, and think what they see is a cinematic masterpiece, and it really pisses off artist when rubbish becomes loved and makes a billion dollars.
Back in my day we liked all versions of Godzilla, we were kids who liked Godzilla because he was and still is awesome, but nowadays the fandom has gotten so toxic (mostly the monsterverse fans) they're always on about powerscaling and get so heated about it for no reason, and if the bigotry is true that's even worse. We need call out this bad behavior and turn this all around
Well, it's like you said, you were kids. Every kid that I know loves all things Godzilla (well, anything that's not too old for them), so I think most people acting like this are young adults mostly. Maybe some teens and older people too
I really like both class toho Godzilla and the monsterverse but I hated one thing about the g fandom is that they need to stop comparing which Godzilla incarnation is the strongest that is just stupid, to me I really enjoyed watching the toho Godzilla films more than the monsterverse films and all of the toxicity side of the Godzilla fandom needs to be stopped and put into an end I am tired of seeing Godzilla fans being toxic to each other and it’s time we need to expose these types of toxic losers
Honestly? Two things, and its not really the fandoms fault IMO. 1 the age of social media. The hyper polarization of politics has seeped into hobby and fandom discourse, of which social media bolsters because any engagement is good engagement. 2 Tourists and social media influencers have driven a wedge between people and incentivize petty argument. Doctor Skipper the obvious example, or even just people posting on Twitter. When you say the fandom is bad what you really mean is social media is bad, there are plenty of spaces where Godzilla and any tokusatsu is discussed civilly and people aren't so cutthroat. I would argue seeking any civility on places like Twitter or RUclips, is a fools game, and no one should be putting stake into those places if they want good engagement. Anonymity is not the problem either because obviously we've had that for almost 30 years on the internet, the problem is recent and its because of the corporatization of the web. Im sure this is where people will disagree with me, but i feel like getting hateful comments from strangers is just something that happens on the internet, and should be dubly ignored as noise. You don't have to like it or think its fair, but its not right to blame an entire community for toxic individuals. The only way to make a 100 percent air tight safespace....is to gatekeep. Thats just how it is and theres no way around it. You either acknowledge you'll let troublemakers in or you vet everyone and risk becoming overbearing from an authoritative point, making people less inclined to engage honestly.

Moments like these make me miss when the franchise was more niche because we didn't have nearly as many assholes in the community.
