Sharon Bryant (born August 14, 1960, Westchester County, New York) is an American R&B singer. She began her career as the lead singer of the R&B group Atlantic Starr in 1976.
I always loved this song. I actually never knew Steve Perry originally made it. Now, when I hear him sing it I think of her version. How come I didn't know she was with Atlantic Starr? Wow!
Great song. Steve wrote it, I always wanted to see Steve and Sharon sing it together, blending their versions. Live. And like others have asked where's Sharon's video of this on "Our Tube"
@@tonjawhitaker8588 Steve Perry WROTE and recorded this song in 1984, a full 5 years before Sharon Bryant's cover version. He liked her version and contacted her record company to compliment her performance.
Sharon Bryant is an amazing vocalist. I loved her singing in Atlantic Starr and this was an excellent version of a beloved Journey song that Steve Perry lead. Golden voice!
Yesss! I just listened to Steve Perry's version and I said wait...a black lady did a cover of this song and here it is!!! I sooo remember listening to this a child! The 80's were the absolute BEST!!! 💯😊❤🔥
Sharon Bryant is the best female vocalist in Atlantic Star. I loved her voice, and it was a special treat when I got a glimpse of her around Greenburgh NY. She will be my favorite female vocalist of all time. So underrated, So talented.
I'm in agreement with you ladies. I would love to see the video again, especially when she opens the door and that fine man is standing there! Denzel was the reason I loved the video! Of course, her version is just as good as the original by Steve Perry, in my opinion.
I had to hear this song this morning, Cedric gave me this CD when he came home, for being gone for 19 years... someone suddenly someone took his Life.Rest in Peace Cedric Anderson. We love you.♥️
Be CLASSIC. An even bettee version. I love this track. An even better version if the CLASSES it already was . Sung by an incredible artist. Remember ALANTIC STAR. CLASSIC.
In watching American Idol the other day, Steve Perry was mentioned and I began searching his music....so when I found "Foolish Heart" I was listening and the rhythm seemed off to me....I knew I had heard it before but not this way...LOL funny how you just know somebody else sang a certain song....I didn't stop until I searched for covers of the original and low and behold....This is the version that takes me back....
I didn't know about Steve Perry's version until after I heard this one back in the day.....I was watching this video on Video Soul and my mom came in and said oh that's a remake of Steve Perry's version....I'm like what who is Steve Perry....Now I love both versions equally
Almost all the original lead singers of popular groups in the eighties went on to make music that was ignored by the ignorant masses. I would have preferred to miss all those episodes of Unsung and watch them get their respect.
I remember playing the cassette tape! Really 1989 I didn't have a CD Player! In spite I still enjoyed listening to this single hit! Ms. Sharron Bryant sung her ass off! If people only listen to the lyrics, they will fully understand what the artists is sing about? Right! Bernard Hendricks
An interestingly quirky take on an undying pop classic. Steve Perry more than nailed the original (hello; he WROTE it), but Sharon uses her undeniable charm and vocal power to lift the tune into a different headspace. And the arrangement is solid as a rock. But the production is a plus point; while being dense to the point of near-impenetrability, it allows space and breathing room for her and the instruments to move and groove. Highly melodic and slyly soulful; I think I like it.
Atlantic Starr was foolish for letting her go. Greed & jealousy just stupid! A great group just couldn't make great music & be happy. Sharon's voice is so beautiful!
Didn't the video have Denzel in there when he ws younger? Sharon needs to get back on the scene. I'm still hoping for that Atlantic Starr reunion one day with both Sharon and Barbara - the best female leads they ever had. Sharon was the real deal.
I'm still trying to locate the actual video w/Denzel Washington & damn sure remembered how fine he was back then. I was sooooooo in love with him in the video!! Hahhaa!!
Forget about Barbara Weathers. Sharon Bryant was the best female singer ever for Atlantic Starr. She just had that effortless talent that always radiated to the forefront whenever she sang.☺☺😗😗
@@ralphmason6943 Now wayment now, lol,Sharon Bryant has a very lovely voice indeed, but " forget abt Barbara Weathers" ?? Is a bit hasty, lol ,we wld HV to throw away " Always" "All in the Name of love" " IF your Heart Isn't in it" they both HV lovely voices but we ain't gone to just throw Barbara to the wolves nye lol😊
In spite of whoever replied to my last comment. I understand that Barbara Weathers was a good temporary replacement singer and some eye candy for a certain member of that group if you care to research it Ms Lady. I will say this that Sharon had the god given decency among other things to leave such a degrading and dishonest as well as disgusting group of musicians although they made some beautiful music thanks to my heavenly sister ( Sharon Bryant )🎈🎈😗😗☺☺
The sweet thing about this; Steve Perry liked her remake. He contacted her record label and gave her a great compliment
That's what's up nothing but respect for Steve Perry.
That's what's up and the ULTIMATE compliment.
She did an awesome job!❤️❤️❤️

It would have been dope if Steven and Sharon did a duet remake of this song
OH my God that woulda been soooooo beautiful if they did, I always wished it could happen......
I'm with you!
She's good, but he would have sang circles around her. Just saying.
By the same token, @UnconventionalChef , he might have been all wrong to duet with her on "Secret Lovers".
One of the best female voices of the late 70s/ 80s up there with Miki Howard
Yes!!!!❤
Best voice of Atlantic Starr.
+Elijah E Yep! The best voice...I just wished she had kept recording. This was her ONLY solo project. This was a great cover tune, done well.
Elijah E
Hands down yes!
I love this song! I played it over and over again!
Faccksz..give those boys credit tho...they knew the sound and gave us good substitutes😍. All this is an attribute to Sharon's gifts and success
I always loved this song. I actually never knew Steve Perry originally made it. Now, when I hear him sing it I think of her version. How come I didn't know she was with Atlantic Starr? Wow!
I Thank Steve Perry For This Classic, But She CARRIED IT.... 👋👋👋
For sure. I just listened to his version, and it is nice and expressive, but he doesn't have the power and vocal range.
Great song. Steve wrote it, I always wanted to see Steve and Sharon sing it together, blending their versions. Live. And like others have asked where's Sharon's video of this on "Our Tube"
Marcus O no doubt!!!!
He's got the vocal range, but not the soulful touch.
So true, he definitely has the vocal range, but leave the soulful touch to Ms. Bryant
I grew up with Steve Perry's version and that will always remain my fave but this lady's version is awesome too!
Hers was first

I remember when They were looking for the new singer this one was the one a
Kind of different from the other one. But well educated voice in deep
Clearly the best version of this song. She added much needed flavor and soul.

Great version, love it, and it got Steve’s blessing
