thanks for your video! i have a record 405 as well as a stanley 45 and 55. in the past i just „collected“ them, i didn‘t use them. That will change soon, in my new shop i intend to learn a lot about these complicated looking planes and put them to use. your video provided some insight. well done!
I always wanted to have one in my woodworking shop but when I see one in the antique store its missing parts or its trash bad and pricey $$$ I'll get one soon I hope.
I've got a couple of Stanley 50's, and they work beautifully. The problem is trying to get cutters for them. When I can find them at all, they're so expensive it's just not worth buying them. And that's a shame, because even though the 50 was basically a poor man's 45, it could do almost anything the 45 and 55 could do. Guess I'll just have to try to make my own cutters!
@@williamnye478 could buy veritas or vintage blades with a different style hook. the slots from the 50 blade can be cut on an angle grinder stand with right thickness disk

Glad to help Andrew! Using tools is way more fun than collecting 😊
Nice , good to see other 2 episodes soon 🤔 . thanks 😊
You're most welcome!
Who make that tiny bow saw you had behind you to YOUR left. It's super tiny. I love it. I just don't know it's practicality.
Está muy bueno el vídeo pero necesito la caja de cuchillas ojalá me puedan ayudar a conseguir.
Very informative. Thanks Bill.
Glad you liked it!
Man, that plane is clean

Look at my handplane buyer's guide for better places to look than antiques stores. I rarely find good deals from antique dealers.
there are lots of parts and blades available on eBay. a good book published by Record is called "Planecraft"is also available on eBay.

Making your own cutters would be cool!

@@anxiousmerchant4129 They MAKE them? I didn't think anyone made anything even similar nowadays.
@@williamnye478 veritas style blades look like they will fit the 45, as their combination plane is a clone of that.
its just about fitting the slots.
