    New subscriber. I’m a 2017 Hawk owner in N. Cal., an hr from the factory. I use the camper throughout the Mtns and deserts of the Basin&Range. I use 3” memory foam atop the factory hard cushions. The combined height of the two is level with the tiny carpeted shelf that runs around the perimeter of the bed. And remember, those 6 roof latches are adjustable to allow more room on the bed.
    Your are going to want E rated tires when you travel off road.
    Lastly, I’d suggest you not roll your windows down. Fold the like the rest of us do. See Stan’s (4WC factory employee) you tubevideo on the Termal pac to see how they/we do it. Happy camping.

    Have had my Raven for 3 years now and have 'enjoyed' figuring out the storage issues. I bought a shell model w/furnace, solar and couch. Built a shelf for our ARB fridge. The absolute best upgrade for the mattresses is the ExPed brand self-inflating air mattress. They are foam filled and completely adjustable. The Queen size fits perfectly east/west. We use only the king size arrangement, so we also bought a twin size ExPed to fill the gap (also east/west). So we have a legit California King sized bed. These mattresses that are as close to a Sleep Number bed as you can get. When we wake up we can't figure out if we're at home or in the camper. We do leave the bed board slid out while traveling. Also, the ExPed 4" pads have like an R10 insulation factor. I also lined the the camper under the mattress with 1/8" Frost King duct insulation, that adds another R3 or so. Happy trails!

      Awesome! We will have to look into the mattress brand. Been looking but still havent pulled the trigger yet on anything. It sounds like a great option for what we would need. Thanks for sharing the information, so appreciated. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!!!!!

      The only thing we did was put airbags on. Rides great on the road. We have not gone off road yet. I am waiting till I need to get new tires, then I will probably go with 35’s. Might need to lift it a bit, but we will cross that bridge if we need to. Also when the fresh water tank is full you do notice it when stopping from speed. Thank you for watching, we appreciate it!

    We sleep north to south king size. We are going to try a froli sleep system on the front with the largest pad. We are also going to try to replace the brick hard large pad in the front. I've concluded that our cheap topper doesn't do anything. It gives a false sense of comfort because it's slightly wraps around you as you lay on top of it. I also replaced the rear cheap 1960s RV porch light with a sealed unit and a switch on the inside. I also replaced the finger biter entry handle with a kayak handle. We've been in our hawk since last November full time traveling through Mexico and the US. We love our camper but there's a lot of things that four-wheel camper fell asleep on years ago. I'm slowly changing that. We put Velcro in the front and rear of the canvas to hold up the ends of the thermal packs. What was four wheel camper thinking, as you can see they just flopped down in the front and rear. So I fixed it with some 2-in sticky Velcro. We did go lithium and glad we did. I used mule expeditions four-wheel camper awning racks. No drilling needed. I also did modifications on the propane system. Added dual hose hookup to the tanks and a quick release for running or propane stove outside or our shower system that we use outside. Hope some of this might help, like I said we love our four-wheel camper they're just some things they need to catch up on and improve.

    Have you made upgrades to your truck? What is the dry weight of the camper?

    • @db2overland
      @db2overland  2 года назад +1

      The Raven model has a base dry weight of 1040 lbs. The only upgrade we did to the truck so far is added Firestone air bags to level out the truck when the camper is installed. Four wheel Camper recommends this. During the install at the dealership, they drilled through the bed and installed eye bolts for turnbuckles to hold the camper to the truck. They also cut a hole in the bed wall of the truck to install the electrical plug for outside lighting and charging of the camper battery. I hope this answers your questions and thanks for watching.

      @@db2overland How does the truck handle with just the airbags? I think four wheel recommends leaf packs and I'm curious how it is just running the bags. I have tundra TRD PRO in a crewmax also and I'm considering the same camper. Nice review! Thx!

      We do have something similar for when we need it. Five gallon bucket with a seat lid and pleasant smelling gel packets and bags. It's always along for the ride, plus you never know when a five gallon bucket might be needed. We stow it in the cab of the truck. Currently we are working on a removable storage compartment for that empty space by the door.
