I honestly didn’t think I would like this but now that I’m seeing it finished I’m absolutely in love with the effect and how it pops and the rub off with the Modge was a super crafty way of making custom signs that have that rustic charm. I would only say that you kinda skipped over the sanding part to sand the corners and edges. A 220 grit is ideal. I like breaking the surface of the wood with 80 grit then doing a light but even 220 to help absorb the stain. The edge breaking effect does make the sign appear like it’s been around awhile and that adds character to the saying or phrase you’re using. Again, I loved this video and the music was cute and playful. Rustic anything is hot and it always sells. It’s kinda like a well written country song or some folk backwoods music that makes you feel like it’s going to be okay if you’re broke, money ain’t everything.

i do lots of outdoor signs and flags and whatnot using reclaimed old lumber, so i go the oil stain route. after lots of trial and error i have just settled on spray paint, acetone, and vegetable oil as my recipe. ratios are random usually, depending on the spray paint. for extra protection, spar urethane is a good sealer to make a rustic old barnwood flag hold its color a good long time.

You may already be aware of this handy hint:
If you want to paint or stain a board, you can do 5 sides at once if you place an egg cartons underneath.
Even better if you get those bigger cartons and you can tack them to you work table and close the lid.
