I was born in 1953 in a rural area. Things were much different back then, many people did not bathe regularly, I suspect that some did not bathe even once a month except perhaps in the summertime. It was not unusual to encounter someone that could not read or write too. Times sure have changed.
@@kostasveronis5882 We had a bathtub installed in our house in the mid 1950s, our neighbors bathed in a galvanized tub they would fill with water and let it warm in the sun in the summer, I am not sure what they used in the winter. We got a shower installed in the early 1960s in our basement because my father did not care to use a bathtub.
My late stepfather, (1925-2003), after he retired, took a shower once a week! He couldn't smell his body odor! But he knew enough to take a shower, if he had a Doctor's appointment that day! And his friend, Johnny, who was a Carpenter; said, "I'm going to tell you, Ted, you stink!" That meant my stepfather had to hop in the shower, just to hang out with his friend; and ride in Johnny's truck to Hardware stores!
How do they do it?? These narrators very usually get the pronunciation of famous people WRONG. In this doc, the narrator pronounced Peter Lorrees name, as Peter Lorr, Is he kidding us??
Bigger names than Charles Laughton? ... In his day. there weren't many bigger names ... he starred in Mutiny on The Bounty, The Island of Dr. Moreau, The Hucnhback of Notre Dame, Spartacus, Advise And Consent and Witness For The Prosecution for goodness sake ... how big does he have to be to be big?
