NRA Gun of the Week: Tisas 1911A1 US Army

- Watch our feature video above about the Tisas 1911A1 US Army pistol, a faithful reproduction of the original 1911A1 built for the U.S. government during World War II.
The Tisas single-action pistol features the design enhancements originally employed by Colt, Union Switch and Signal, Singer Manufacturing Company, Ithaca Gun Company and Remington Rand that make this model worthy of its title. Aside from the gun’s military-style Parkerized finish, Tisas includes the differentiating features the 1911A1 model had over its predecessor-an enhanced short-reach trigger, arched mainspring housing, grip safety spur and hammer spur are included. The only difference from the original 1911A1 design is the inclusion of series 70 lockwork.
Tisas provides a set of stock panels that are molded after the original plastic grips included on wartime guns. Overall fit and finish of the Tisas model is likely better than most all government-issued M1911A1s we’ve seen. The reproduction example houses a 5” hammer-forged steel barrel with included feed ramp and lip. The slide is also forged from steel.
Our range experience with the Tisas was flawless. The lack of gratuitous branding is welcomed and provides for nostalgic appearance of a classic American design. Given its price and mil-spec configuration, the Tisasa 1911A1 US Army appears to be a great option for military arms enthusiasts and DIY gunsmiths looking for budget-friendly projects to invest in.

2/11/2023 I recently bought the latest iteration of the Tisas 1911A1. They moved the zig tsas roll mark to the bottom of the dust cover, cleaning up the receiver. I bought this from the near rave reviews on RUclips AND as a companion to my 1943 Remington Rand (service grade) acquired from CMP.
I have to say the Tisas fit and finish is excellent. It came with a nice, hard, lockable case, two magazines, both sets of grips (Turkish "double diamond "Walnut and G.I. plastic) cleaning brush and swab holder. An exceptional value in an excellent representation of G.I. kit.
More than 4000 rounds through my Tisas GI model and it still runs like a champ. Very happy with it!
Definitely worth the money. I've got a 45acp. 👍
I was super satisfied with this purchase. It feels soo much better than my Springfield 1911
I’ve owned a Tisas for years now, NEVER had any issues with it. Outstanding product for the price point. (Edit: now I own 2. Just bought the army)
It's outstanding period.... No need to add the "for the price" at the end of your sentence...
I just bought one mine has the grey cerakote finish it is a 1911 A1 service special five inch barrel it has a flat mainspring housing and a commander hammer I was glad to get it for the quality of the pistol and the price tag.
I have one. It’s awesome. Worth every penny of the $349 I spent 11 months ago. 🇺🇸
Did you get it locally? I want to get one soon
Where’d you get it?
love it. I carried it in the 82nd airborne on my gun jeep the 106 recoilless rifle. a cannon on a jeep wouldn't have any other. this one is it. colt in 2022 $1900. or this $420. tight and correct
Picked mine up for $249 from my local Sportsmans Warehouse! Was in the used case and one of the earlier models that came in a basic cardboard box vs the nicer plastic case. Fit and finish for $249 is quite unbelievable! Overall imlressions are this is the most basic, no frills style, cheapest 1911. As a clone it is feature packed without the high pricetag
Finally a 1911 priced that a working Joe can afford . Will have to get one, made in Turkey does not bother me.
My Tisas is a ZIG it has a chrome moly barrel its Black parkerized and has black grips after polishing the moving parts that rub each other i have a 4 to 5 pound trigger down from 7
My Tisas is a ZIG it has a chrome moly barrel its Black parkerized and has black grips after polishing the moving parts that rub each other i have a 4 to 5 pound trigger down from 7
That's right pick mine up 5th I'm polishing it can't wait
I wanna see 1000 rounds tho before I get it
And iven if it did bother you, Rock Island Armory also sells good priced quality 1911A1 pistols
I love mine, a very generous man spent time with me to teach me the fundamentals of shooting that i lacked. He told me his stories and I listened to every one, Ill shares thos for as long as breathe. The weapon I used to learn on was a Tisas 1911 , It belonged to him.
Got one at the $400 price point and took it out this past weekend. 150 rounds and ran flawlessly. I've got post WWII correct grips along with a titanium firing pin that will be installed shortly. Other than that I'll keep it as is because there is nothing more to improve.
Shot mine right out of the box today (with some CLP of course), 150 rounds without missing a beat, not a single failure of any type.
I've got this Tisas A1 Army and I've also got a Remington R1 enhanced that costs twice as much and the Remington is prettier but they both drive tacks and I'd recommend the Tisas to anyone. The machining is superb especially for the price point and with new grips and some sight paint it's really an awesome machine!!
My son has that Remington, so when we do "1911" day at the range, we have fun trying to out shoot each other. Both guns are very good shooters.
I couldn't find one for $399. I just bought a new one for $459. Still a value I expect. These are commonly sold out so I wqs happy just to be able to buy one.
I own one and love its going to be my every day carry gun.
I currently carry it and its nice, the weight isn't a problem, and I changed the plastic grip with a rubber hogues finger groove. Allows for a great hold and doesn't add any flash to the gun to keep its more or less "authenticity".
Do you guys carry one in the chamber and “cocked and locked”?
I have 2 Tisas's now...new to the Tisas family. A 1911 duty (5") and 1911 carry (4.25"). I was suprised that it recoiled less than my Glock g19 gen 5. A little more kick in the palm but the vertical recoil was a bit less. Heavier gun, longer barrel, less vertical recoil. And it shoots great. Would definitely recommend the wilson combat mags though. Factory mags are ok but did have some FTF's initially.
I had an original WW2 Remington Rand 1911 and it was reliable however it did not feed HP rounds at all.. These SDS 1911s feed anything all day long!
I just purchased a Tisas 1911 A1 Service for my 38th Birthday. I have wanted a 1911 since I was 10. My EDC was/is a Springfield XD Mod2 Sub-Compact in 45acp. I back that up with another 45. Beretta Cougar 8045 F. So I'm a 45 guy, but couldn't ever afford a 1911. I absolutely love this Tisas 1911 A1 Service Model. As this model actually takes into account all the issues the Military model has and completely addresses them Beautifully. Of course that's not saying the issues with the Military model are not intended as it is a military clone.
I got one for my girlfriend they run great jammed very few times even with the super cheap ammo and with Winchester ammunition the tisas worked flawlessly
Picked on up the other day. Pretty impressive for the price.
Got mine in April of 2023, looks like these newer ones are a nice grey Cerakote finish. Love this pistol.
Just picked mine up, paid $413.00 otd. This will make a great companion to my CMP Service Grade 1945 vintage Remington Rand.
Just ordered one of these bad boys this morning! I can't wait! :)
LOVE this gun!!
Beautiful inexpensive 1911s, haven't tried one but have checked them out in my lgs, would love to try the 9mm version
I love the Tisas carry version that I have. I swapped out the grip panels, that's it. I've put several hundred rounds through it, never one problem.
Will the thumb safety engage in the half cocked position? Thank you .
I just bought one I love it.
Very good better than guys that don't know what there doing.
Great job love this gun , got 309 rounds through it. And still going strong.
Love it
The thumb safety on the Tisas IMHO is significantly better than the thumb safety found on standard Colt 1911’s until recently. Though small it provides a more secure engagement / disengagement surface which is less likely (again IMHO) to be missed under stress than the later version that was standard on Colt 1911’s for many years.
I bought the "service" model back in December 2021. Some people say they've had theirs run 100% out of the box. Mine didn't until about 800 rounds or so. It wasn't terrible, but it did have feeding issues from time to time, even with good quality mags. I'm going on over 1,500 hundred rounds now, and it's been fantastic since that 800ish round mark. And it feeds any ammo I put in it. Pretty hard to beat this basic 1911 for the money, especially with all forged main components.
This was the second Gun i purchased.
Totally gettn this
I walk in my local gun store bought one brand new $456.00 dollars. Got black hard case two magazines clean rod brush great handgun for price. Special now days when pay more for other handguns get less nice seee Tisas offer more for there customers money.
I must have one
One of my occasional edc.
The manufacturer said the finish is not park but similar to cerakote.
My only gripe with mine is that the hammer seems a bit wider than an original 1911A1, so i get hammer bite because of my high grip. Wilson Combat's drop in beaver tail safety and hammer and I have wonderful firing 1911A1. Has fed hollowpoints and FMJ with Zero issues. Have pretty close to 1,000 rounds through it.
For about $150 more you can get their Stainless Steel Duty model that has an upgraded trigger, better sights and a beaver tail grip safety already on it.
I think that wider hammer is still correct for later issues 1911a1s
@@jthrelf All I know is the ones I carried in the Marines never bit me. Of course I was about 175lbs in the Marines, I now weigh about 205lbs. That COULD be part of it.
@@tommygatch 🤣. I hear you brother!
The wide hammer was used all the way up around 1943, by then most manufacturer's had switched to the short narrow spur hammer.
Sorry, that I am pasting my same post to other videos!
-=-+-=
I've got the same A1 version. I wanted something I could display for its historical significance (I'm big into WW2 history), but that I could also fire to my heart's content (well, nowadays - wallet's content) without worry.
I've stopped with the "for the money" disclaimer because that pistol has won me over completely.
It was stiff and tight out of the box, but once I cleaned off the assembly goop and Hoppe'd it up, and sat on the sofa just repeatedly running the slide, dry firing it, and running my different mags through it, it felt great. Great range performance. Tight, no rattles, but smooth and feeling like a quality piece. I never have these feelings about my polymer wonders. Yes, I carry them and keep them in the nightstand, but I don't have the fondness for them that I have for my all-metal pieces.
I have no desire to find a different one. It absolutely on its own merits. It's a great ole hunk of metal! 🤠
Parkerized looking Paint Job??? No way !!!
nice firearm, affordable price.
For the price this is the best buy on the market. Get thenm while you can.
Will the thumb safety engage when the hammer is in the half cocked position?
I've had mine for about a year. About 1300 rounds through it (would do more but.... you know$$$) I love it but it's far from perfect. The trigger is absolutely terrible as far as 1911 goes but she shoots straight. Doesnt like steel case much though
Awesome gun but it's not a faithful reproduction of original 1911 because it's ejector port is a little bit lower. Otherwise it's close enough.
Has anyone put Remington hollow points through this firearm? I know it's meant for fmj, but how about jhp? Please let me know. Thanks.
I have run those Colt brand .45acp hollow points through my Tisas. Those rounds are the 185grain all copper really wide hollow point bullets. No feed problems.
Just picked one up today. Do you know if regular Colt magazines are compatible? Or anything 1911 style mags?
ALL 1911s USE THE SAME MAGS... Come on guy, get with it.
@@wehrewulf my goodness. Do all McDonald’s restaurants taste the same also?
@@wehrewulf Not The Rock Island 1911.
I would buy one if someone would offer them for sale.
Centerfire systems has them for $400 right now. Plus they offer a 90 day layaway. Just picked my up the other day. This is my 3 tisas. I own the duty version with full rail, the GI, and their hi power clone. I’m old enough to remember when we used to get the cheap Norinco/Chinese clones of these old pistols. The fit and finish is FAR superior on these Turkish guns. Plus all the forged parts make it all the more better. They really give US companies like Springfield and Ruger a run for their money. Before the panic buying these guns were $339-360 shipped all day from Cdnn and classic firearms. But $400 is still a steal imo. Sorry for the lengthy reply. Good luck!
Who has them jeez I can't find one anywhere!?!?!?!
Fort Thompson in Sherwood, Arkansas.... Bought mine from there...$458 out the door 1911a1 Service not the army version
Its $320 bucks in PSA rn
Very close copy......except they lowered the ejection port un-necessarily the Khar 1911 is the only 1911 that looks like a real WW2 version.....except internally it is a series 80.....it is also real Parkerizing.....not a paint job like the Tisas.
Not parkerized - It's a modern coating of some sort = fancy paint
Not true, this model is in fact parkerized. A lot of their model 1911s are cerekoted but this one is not.
Its cerakote
@@benalbaugh562 the magazine is parkerized but the pistol is cerekoted
Anyone know these tisas 1911 able to feed hollow points ?
Yessir. I haven't found an acp round that it won't feed and shoot exceptionally well
s&b hollow points feed reliably into any 1911, are cheap & accurate =)
Problem is ALL Tisas 1911’s are OUT OF STOCK!
I have the tanker version .
1911 has nothing to do with hi power, 2 totally different wrapons
What? Can you clarify?
Wrapons are a totally different subject.
Both are J.M.Browning designs that have survived in their original forms for more years than most people alive today.
Gettho plastic grips.
No. They're authentic to the wartime issued 1911s.
Put on some Ergo XTR black hard rubber grips like I did. They look great like a spec ops 1911.
Made in turkey? No thanks. I trust only Colt and Remington.
You trust Remington? Maybe the old stuff. The last few years...quality sucks
Lmao. Remington tends to produce lemons in terms of pistols and you can only dream of buying such expensive things as a non rusted, pre war colt, provided you are a working class man.
@@RJ-oi3ckI think if you ask a turkey gun maker what is quality control he do not know my friend. Be sure for that. You have Ruger, Remington, Colt and you go to spend your money to take a made in turkey 1911? Okay..
@@spartancopida2114 interesting comment from someone who can't properly form a sentence. The arrogance that only a U.S. company can make a quality firearm is laughable. The most popular handguns on the market today are not even made by American companies let alone made in the U.S.
We all know what crap Kimbers are. Wilson Combat is piss.
Tisas Model 1911A1 U.S. Army.
My review, the finish is not true Parkerizing, it is a coating. The ejection port is lower than a USGI pistol. The plastic grips aren't up to G.I standards and are cut for a ambidextrous thumb safety. There is no groove on the mainspring housing on the area above the lanyard loop. The loop is bigger than your USGI loop, so it doesn't affect anything. The magazine well has a small bevel, where G.I pistols don't. My pistol has a nice trigger pull and is very tight, like a National Match pistol. The recoil spring guide doesn't have the punch hole. I paid $395.00 and tax. The Tisas is made in Turkey by a military contractor, It comes in a cardboard box with users manual, one magazine, barrel brush and cleaning rod. It is imported by SDS Imports and has a 5 year warranty from date of purchase.
