Tampa 1973 - no opening act. Huge crowd. Sat on my brother’s shoulders to see better. He was 6’4”. It’s hard to put into words the experience of seeing Led Zeppelin live. Unlike any other concert I have ever been to. Magic.

Feb 1, 1975, Pittsburgh. Civic Arena. NO opening act. Fantastic show even though Robert had a bad cold, and sounded like Rod Stewart, LOL...Jimmy's finger was healing from a car door incident. So they did "How Many More Times" in place of "Dazed"... Great Show, I will never forget it...

When led zep came onto the scene they were groundbreaking pioneers, no one had reached the level of musicianship and hard hitting bare bones attack and passion, they set the benchmark for what a band could do, i was too young to go to their concerts but studied everything they did, they are still my favorite band all these years later

This was fun to listen to.
I saw Zeppelin live 5 times!
First time I was a junior in high school in 73 at MSG in NY. I was 16 and absolutely hooked to be a lifelong fan.
Next time was in 1975 on February 13th at the Nassau Colesium in NY. I had brought a blind date with me to the show. It was a relationship that lasted 6 years!
Then 3 more times in 1977 at MSG again.
Zep never had an opening act and every show lasted more than 3 hours!
I've seen just about every band imaginable over the years. No one with more stage presence than the mighty Zeppelin. I could go on and on.
Now at age 68 I sometimes still can't get enough of their music.
Thanks for this video. It brought back some of my youths greatest memories.

Saw them in Seattle in 1977. They never had an opening act because the believed in giving the fans a 3 hour set. My friends and I decided to drive through the Edgewater Hotel driveway just to be close. No internet, barely any press or even published photographs in those days. They were total mystery and they were gods to us. There were four of us, my brother and two other buddies in my father's Chevy Caprice Classic. We weren't the only ones with this idea for there was a complete traffic jam going into the driveway loop that led to the front entry of the hotel. Seemed as though it took us at least 40 minute before we got close to the front of the hotel. Looking up at rich kids partying it up from their balconies in the Edgewater. So there was one taxi cab in front of us that came to a stop in front of the hotel. The cab rear door opened and out dashed Jimmy Page in a full sprint into the hotel. I jumped out of the passenger side and stood there in shock. Then slowly out came Robert Plant with a big smile on his face. He waved and calmly sauntered into the hotel. We were in that car line all that time and Page and Plant were right in front of us in a taxi Cab and we didn't know it. We found out later that they were returning from a Seattle Sounders Soccer game.

Saw them in 1973 (MSG the second one of the nights for the Song Remains the Same movie), 1975 & twice in 1977.....no opening act for any of the shows. My 1975 show was at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island in NY. Ron Wood came out and played with them on Communication Breakdown for the encore. I've been to about 300 concerts in my life time....none were better than these 4.

No opening act for Led Zep beginning in 1970. They were completely alone from that year forward.
By the way, a 2.5 hour show was considered rather short in LZ's time. 3 to 3.5 hours and longer were the norm.
    Best band. Ever.

I believe they only had opening acts in the earlier days, since they put on 3 to 4 hour nonstop concerts, they didn’t need opening acts. Peter Grant also got them 90% of the profits, instead of the 10% bands were getting. He had told whomever from the venue, you can have 10% of a sold out concert, or 100% of nothing. That opened the gates for other bands to get bigger cuts, so many had preformed like crazy, & barely made any money. Grant took great care of them, they didn’t have to worry about anything, but their music. Page & Grant got an amazing contract with Atlantic Records, for Page/the band to have complete control over all aspects. When to make albums * when to tour * how they’d promote concerts/albums * when or if they’d release singles (very few) * No TV shows * choice of album covers etc etc. their first rehearsal was on August 19,1968, the day before Plant’s 20th birthday. This contract was signed on November 23,1968, & a $143,000 advance, the largest at the time, for a new band. Atlantic Records hadn’t even heard them perform live. Their first US concert was on December 26,1968, in Denver Colorado, & off they went.

I was not allowed to see LZ in dallas 77. My ma said no dice. I was ten in 77. Bummer for me right?
Flash to 1980. My bu ddy camped outside Rainbow Tickets for 3 days. I didn't camp out cause, that's right,ma wouldn't let me camp! I was 13 so I suppose it wasn't too wicked. She was letting me go to the show I suppose.
Well the show a few wks away and we were counting the days to zeppelin. Right? Damn straight. But then, one morning ma was waking me up for school. This morning instead of my bfast order she says," UK that band u have tix to see"? Yes. "Well the drummer died last night ". Huh? What? U sure? Ok she wasn't lying. When she said, 'that band u got tix 2see"etc. ik she knew exactly who led zep was (cuz my sister went to see them in 75 and got backstage pass then an invite to the Fairmont Hotel where lz rented a floor or two. Show was on Mon. and sis drug her ass home Thurs. She flew on the plane and turned 15 Tuesday. Times were different cuz that flew at the time. Meaning taking a 15 yr old girl and her 15 yr old pal too, across state lines for what some might say immoral purposes flew in 75. Sis said she had fun,fun fun. I bet she did ! Point is ma knew about led zeppelin. However I digress.
So I never saw led zeppelin live, much to my chagrin.
I still have that untorn ticket for Dallas County Convention Center for a show that didn't happen. I'm looking at it. Haven't seen it or even thought about it or my sister slutting around w the road crew in years. I think I'm gonna get a frame for that ticket tomorrow. I am going to call sister here in a minute and bust her balls a little bit. Just for fun cuz I'm jealous I reckon. She saw a total of like 5x . 75 & 77. Me ? I got a untorn ticket that I would gladly tear if bonzo would come back. To carry on with his life and play make up date in Dallas .jk. Lol. Ciao

To my knowledge the last time they had an opening act was before the '73 tour. I saw them at the Capital Centre in Landover, MD (just outside of Washington, DC) on 5/28/77. No opening band. Very long show, close to three hours. Overall very good, but a bit erratic - the highs were monstrously high (Kashmir, Achilles Last Stand, return of the acoustic set) while the lows were truly low (solos just flat out too long, and I usually love those). I can hear why the older fans complain that they didn't have the fire as they did in '69 - '71 or so. But the musical maturity of each individual musician and the maturity as a band (songwriting, performing, always bringing in fresh ideas) far outweighs sheer youthful exuberance in the long run. Those bands put out 2-3 albums within a couple of years and end up residing in the "Where Are They Now?" file.

Saw them in seattle’77. Nope no openers. Yes shows were very long. Figure they just wanted to keep the audience absorbed in undiluted Zep, for they had been upstaged by openers such as Grand Funk in the past, so maybe they didn’t want to share the glory. That seems like a Peter Grant move. Loved the video. Very interesting.
