1:50 For those who wish to know or can't remember what happened in D.O.W. 3. I'll explain it somewhat briefly. Due to the Blood Raven's low numbers and loss of wargear from the catastrophic civil war. The new Chapter Master found himself having to make the tough choice of having his chapter serve under an Inquisitor until their resources were replenished. During their service, the Inquisitor would use his authority to requisition Imperial forces that would be used to blockade an ancient teleporting eldar world that was set to return and stop any being from landing on it. However, while the Blood Ravens and the Inquisitor were waiting in the system for the appearance of the ancient Eldar world. A plea for help came from one of the worlds in the system which was the home for an Imperial Knight House. The Knight household was being overwhelmed by an an ork Waaaagh, with their last keep being besieged even. The Inquisitor denied the Knight House its reinforcements wishing to maintain all of his resources at the ready for the world's arrival. The Blood Raven's Chapter Master, despite the need of resources for his chapter, low numbers, and risk of angering the Inquisition. Defied the order and went personally with his chapter to save the Imperial Knight House, believing his duty first and foremost was to defend his fellow man against enemies of humanity. To oversimplify the rest of what happened in the game, the Blood Raven's ended up losing even more men and blew up the ancient world by ramming it's core with one of their few remaining battle barges. Oh and an ancient demon prince of Khorne (that or an ancient bloodthirster, one of the two, don't care to remember) was released before being smacked down by the Blood Raven's Chapter Master at the end after the world blew up.

I don't really like how the new lore has the Custodes basically be utter snobs, seems like they're just regressing all the lore and typical behavior of Custodes into nothing but rich man children. :3c
In a way can you blame them? While everyone else in the setting has largely lived to some degree through the 41st millennium. The Custodes experienced the entire millennium since before the Emperor was entombed. Its understandable that even if they're excellent diplomats, they have little reason not to become jaded and spiteful. Having to watch both their creator and his creations decompose before their very eyes every day.
the blood ravens are my favourite chapter and i have some painted primaris minitures of them. so happy to see there still getting lore written about them and gw havent forgotten about them and have now been reinforced by primaris and are still going strong in the current setting
Since no one's curious, in DoW3 the Blood Ravens got tangled up in some convuluted space prophecy from Taldeer so Gabriel had to team up with Macha again (and Gorgutz who they made look really stupid in this one) to defeat a random Daemon called the Storm Prince. The best part of the whole game is when Diomedes, now a Chaplain, was on a star fort that collided with a planet and when Gabriel and some 1st Company Terminators go to collect whatever remains there might be they find the fucking mad lad beating the shit out of some Eldar. Diomedes looks at his chapter master and is just like "Sup bro. You gonna help me kill these xeno or what?"
When Magnus Fell he litterally had a Visions of his sons taking the form of a flock of ravens drenched in his blood. They have a unusal ammount of psykers among their ranks. There is no question on who is the father. Plus Magnus is known for hoarding and stealing Any artefact he could get his hands on.
@@doragonzx My current theory is that they were actually created by Trazyn with Magnus' genetics...possibly the replacement legion that the Emperor had offered Magnus at some point...which seems like some "rare" thing for his collection...but he got bored and figured that he might have some helpers there
I never liked the interpretation of custodians being patronising and condescending. They’re supposed to be super diplomats and very cultured people. Seems strange to have them act like arseholes. Even if they don’t mean it, they should understand that being polite and treating them with respect is the most efficient way of getting a problem solved. It just makes both sides look like immature children.
I agree, but it does add up that they would dislike the marines. Their civil war contributed to the situation the imperium is in while the custodies have always been loyal. That we have instances of it happening with regular citizens reinforces to me that GW writers mostly don't know what they are doing unfortunately. Still, it's a stupid custodian that pisses off half a company of marines with centuries of battlefield experience. These weren't greenhorn primaris they could slap around without danger.
I've always preferred the Custodes being giant dick bags because lets not forget that they were personal friends of the Emperor of Man and were considered diplomatic by HIS standards. And the Emperor is the king of uncompromising douchebags, he needs to rely on mind control and perception manipulation to get anyone who actually knows him to do anything.
I would not be surprised if these custodians sent here were kind of dicks but most likely not all of them are that bad as these guys are, I mean, you’re always gonna have those assholes in any organization. Though given their history, I could easily see why all of them might be a little condescending towards the space marines.
i think it makes them better in a way to progress them after the heresy, every faction of the imperium had a downfall to its great crusade era, and the custodes going from big brother diplomat to being so good they lost all their humble attitude, besides without that downfall custodes would be literally the same as its heresy era
I feel like this is one of those "You'll land your ships eventually" situations. Like, what are you gonna do,NOT come to holy terra every now and again? "We'll wait".
He implied already that communication on the otherside of the rift was the problem, hence the whole 'disappear' or 'you never did say how you'd cross it' implication of the threat? Essentially, by imperium knowledge, they got lost in the warp or in other words "never crossed it".
2:09 I thought the Blood Ravens also did "tactics". In fact, catching flak from other chapters for "observing" and planning operations if I remember right.
The game died fast. Somehow they wanted to turn it into a hero style game rather than the classic RTS that was Dawn of War I/II. Many fans of the series were disappointed by the change of the game and just stopped playing.
While Custodes need to stop being indiscriminately (some chapters deserve it) arrogant towards the space marines, I would like to point out that the ships were custodes’ ships, meaning the most pimped out ride imperium can afford so they might have stood a chance. That being said, some times it’s about sending a message and not whatever you can pull it off. As Atanaxis demonstrated.
the demon was elder fault for just giving warnings and refusing to explain themselves, like they expected the space marines to just take them at their word

Ya know, Atenaxis actively standing up against a CUSTODES, speaks volume on why much of their Chapter history is lost/locked away and their primarch unknown...
I once wrote a bit of a joke story...Where they basically invaded the rok with the lion. Why? Cause they wanted the secret property of the most secretive chapter...And fond some giant ass dude. Looted his ass, put him in blood raven power armor...And woke his ass up. And he sorta just became that one tall blood revan that is really, really good at making things dead. I fond it really fucking funny. Also...Wait. Youre telling me the blood ravens didn't just loot the custodes and make them blood revan property? That's shocking. They let all that gold, firepower, relics, and mystery man walk free?!
Custodes fan, and this is true. Custodes will fuck them hand to hand. They might loose one or two, but their ship will be long gone by the time the fight ends.
Is my head canon just wrong, I don't understand why custodians become the snobbiest, self entitled ***holes when they can clearly understand what a battered and bruised chapter looks like and have the brain power to show even a slight amount of sympathy
Because some people are just like that, I guess. As far as I know, Custodes are closer to having regular human personalities than space marines do, which means that they have more room to be awful towards non-Custodes. Just look at Diocletian. It does also give them room to be more chill tho.
They're whole personality is being the personal body guards and complete unassailably loyal enforcers of a space wizard most of the galaxy's human population worships as a god, and clad them all in gold and lavished them with the finest weapons and armour his empire could make. When given near unchecked authority and told over and over again that you are just more special and more important and more wise and skilled than the vast majority of the rest of the humans in the galaxy, you might get a little snobby and short with lower ranking people as well. It's the alienation I think, they don't have much point of reference to relate to others.
@@seekingabsolution1907 "a little snobby" my brother under the emperor all the custodians had to do was tell them a few things, give them there gene seed and leave, anyone could have given him the update but they were portrayed like that so someone else could seem bad*** (i admit tho it was an incredible moment and well worth it but I'm still annoyed)

As much as I love the idea of the Blood Ravens telling the Custodes to screw off for being disrespectful, I think there's one problem. The lore on custodes is that they're basically emotionally blank. As in if you told a knock-knock joke to a space marine and a custodes you have a slight chance to get a small chuckle from the marine whilst the custodes will just look at you blankly.
Sure but they're also suppose to be the Emperor's bodygaurds and besti-- I mean.. companions.. and I doubt Emps would want companions around him 24/7 who were duller than dishwater considering how charismatic he is. The way I see it a lot of canon "lore" is told unreliably and that is a smart move from a tactical standpoint. Ofcourse they'd want people to think Custodes are emotionless, to the regular person that shit is scary, if you're scared of the ginormous gold boy with the power armor and the gun spear you're more likely to comply with everything he says. Sure based on power alone, Custodes can get what they want anyways just like what Dogehammer explained in the vid, but just like with the Blood Ravens not everyone they interact with is gonna insta fold when intimidated. You wanna avoid that as much as possible, hence why diplomacy would be more effective (in this case dropping the crates of gene seed and peace-ing the fuck out). Obviously these banana boys missed the 'Diplomatic Relations 101' class as Kidstodes but we can't all be perfect
I'm waiting for more of the Chapter customisation packs to be released. Gotta make sure my Blood Ravens are decked out in a lore accurate quantity of 'gifts'.
Now this is some Blood Ravens stuff I would like to see more in the internet. That they are stone cold badasses that managed to regain their honor, fix their chapter and will never be caught with their pants down ever again. "None Shall Find Us Wanting!" I am just so sick and tired of the "Blood Magpies" meme :(
Problem is, “a group got screwed by incompetent/corrupted leaders so a bunch of heroes restores the honor and deposes leader” is a pretty common(?) bland(?) story in general. The one difference BR’s have compared to most such stories in 40k is that they actually succeeded. Blood Ravens being kleptomaniac, potentially Traitor Legion successors is a very interesting thing that makes them stand out.
I wonder how many chapters/factions most fans are familiar with to this degree. I've read a few Black Templar & Blood Raven novels and a Grey knight book by Ben counter, not enough of the others.

Those are rookie numbers. I lose half the chapter on every single mission of the Tartarus campaign.
bro wipes out the chapter
the blood ravens are stored in the Baals
We steal hard, not gonna lie. Never knew this about our favorite kleptomaniacs XD
I really like this new format
Don't get stressed out for the sister video, I rather have it when YOU'RE ready
I don't really like how the new lore has the Custodes basically be utter snobs, seems like they're just regressing all the lore and typical behavior of Custodes into nothing but rich man children. :3c
In a way can you blame them? While everyone else in the setting has largely lived to some degree through the 41st millennium. The Custodes experienced the entire millennium since before the Emperor was entombed. Its understandable that even if they're excellent diplomats, they have little reason not to become jaded and spiteful. Having to watch both their creator and his creations decompose before their very eyes every day.
@@54lolman jaded is one thing being a collasal arrogant pr*ck in your own right is abit of a leap
Didn't know that the Blood Ravens are territorial to their space same thing as the Australian magpies today
the blood ravens are my favourite chapter and i have some painted primaris minitures of them. so happy to see there still getting lore written about them and gw havent forgotten about them and have now been reinforced by primaris and are still going strong in the current setting
Oh my god I've heard the voice of the great man himself. Big fan, love your channel.
I guess I am not the only one who only remembers the Dawn of War cutscenes in the BigDickCheney edited format
You gonna help me kill these xeno or what?"
legend
Moral of the story? Only space marine with high enough levels of BDE to have an argument with custodes, threaten his life, and win.
also that leave it to custodes to be perfect warriors and diplomats who can let go off their ego if situation necessitates it.
@@Arguments_only Painfully true
Considering that references to their gene sire is either purged from records or armoured pixie dust, the magpies shouldn't get too excited lol
@@doragonzx My current theory is that they were actually created by Trazyn with Magnus' genetics...possibly the replacement legion that the Emperor had offered Magnus at some point...which seems like some "rare" thing for his collection...but he got bored and figured that he might have some helpers there
I mean we pretty much all know that Magnus the Red is the Blood Ravens Primarch :p
Their diplomatic strength is intimidation, and always has been.
In fact, catching flak from other chapters for "observing" and planning operations if I remember right.
yup one blood raven was punched by a spacewolf for saying "hey lemme just blow up there commanders head with our psychic powers "
1:52 obligatory: “what dawn of war III? “
I wouldn't mind more of these vids at all. It's accurate, on Dogehammer brand, and funny/easy to digest. Plus Doge = FUNNIER
"you're looking awfully resistive and steal-able..." -Blood Ravens to a group of unguarded Custodies
the demon was elder fault for just giving warnings and refusing to explain themselves, like they expected the space marines to just take them at their word
And you think the inquisitor tagging along would have just accepted there is a chance he is in the wrong and actively in the process of releasing a daemon?
@@newtonmarques1271 ehh the inquisitor said shoot angelosignored him looked the eldar dead in the face and said "okay who though" the eldar then decided to try and mag dump him what else was angelos supposed to do
@@marley7868 I probably need to replay Dawn of War 1 some time....and Winter Assault and Dark Crusade as well, cause I don't exactly remember them trying to mag dump him for asking a question. I just remember taking care of orks, suddenly Eldar appear, then Chaos space marines, Eldar warning of shit going down but never saying what so that information's about as useful as a single pebble, and then you reach the end where Angelos takes his sweet new hammer and just smashes the skull ball releasing a daemon simply cause the Eldar wanted to play vague games.
@@malkavianamerican3025 yeah that's fair but no angelos asked her straight up why she got annoyed and ordered her soldiers to fire so angelos smashed it while yelling NOOOO

(though i dont like the new ocon they have now a days... i miss the one with the head pointing straight up and not bent off to the right as it has been put of late...
That's just a varied design. They still do have the basic raven insignia. It's just some marines in different companies have their armors designed differently to distinguish the companies from one another
@@Ashraff-vt1kl you know... that kinda makes a little sense, by chance is that theory or is there some referances or is it speculation? not pushing buttons, im honestly curious, as its a take i hadnt considered and if its a thing id love to read more on it! either way, its pretty cool, thank you!
Love this format of video, hope to see more!
If it was custodes vs any other chapter than yeah custodes wipe(still fucked cause of what he mentioned already) but this is the Blood Ravens we’re talking about those fuckers are built better than ultramarines the blood ravens fought a civil war, chaos invasion, and tyranid hive fleet(Leviathan Splinter fleet) almost back to back and survived the ultramarines got their asses outsmarted by the least tactical hive fleet 60 Blood Ravens vs 5 Custodes is pretty even I’d say and if you got the writer from the dawn of war books than the blood ravens than they wipe easily cause that dude is basically just a fanboy for them even more than me
mfs would steal everything from a custodian before they could notice
Don't forget they held against the necrons for a short while...with the help of space elf fuckery
you're on the wrong side of the rift golden homie
No.
(Unironically what a Custodian would say)
Dude I love your videos! You’re incredible!
loved the format, as far as short stories go the "battle of Shadowbrink" from the Nids 7th edition codex is a fun read, if you look at it from the Nids perspective of not wanting to share "food".
Well, in my case the imperial guard were the victors of kaurava (I refuse to acknowledge that the canon endings were usually not the guard ones even in winter assault for some reason, fuck you eldar that was OUR game)

Wish the Blood Ravens would get more content thats not DoW3
We don't talk about DoW 3...
Ya know, Atenaxis actively standing up against a CUSTODES, speaks volume on why much of their Chapter history is lost/locked away and their primarch unknown...
When Custodes find out this is not the book about them 😂😂😂
The Custodes "gifted" it to them fair and square!
no one knows what happened in DoW 3 because nobody finished it and admits it.
It's nice to see you upload again :)
They already have Custodes Armor in their vault bro.

It’s pretty even in my opinion.
this is my army, and i love this Lore,
He’s alive!!!

1:10 Dark Crusade reference, ignore the lore cuz Grey Knights presence in the game is purely for gameplay reazon
It's just that the bloody crows once "saved" the bodies of a squad of grey knights.
@@rz5547 Interesting, is this from Novel ?
No, the explanation is from the fans. The word "save" implies looting.
That depends. Older Custodes have actual emotions, while newer ones are just cold and emotionless bricks.
My Heavy in SM2 is a Blood Raven 👀
I have my Sniper. The nostagia that washes over me everytime he says "Steath, ready" is incredible.
Bruva!
I'm waiting for more of the Chapter customisation packs to be released. Gotta make sure my Blood Ravens are decked out in a lore accurate quantity of 'gifts'.
I hope you make more videos like this there awesome
Now this is some Blood Ravens stuff I would like to see more in the internet. That they are stone cold badasses that managed to regain their honor, fix their chapter and will never be caught with their pants down ever again. "None Shall Find Us Wanting!"
I am just so sick and tired of the "Blood Magpies" meme :(
Problem is, “a group got screwed by incompetent/corrupted leaders so a bunch of heroes restores the honor and deposes leader” is a pretty common(?) bland(?) story in general. The one difference BR’s have compared to most such stories in 40k is that they actually succeeded. Blood Ravens being kleptomaniac, potentially Traitor Legion successors is a very interesting thing that makes them stand out.
its a masterpiece
BUT WHERE IS DOGELANOR ANCIENT OF DOGES

I wonder how many chapters/factions most fans are familiar with to this degree. I've read a few Black Templar & Blood Raven novels and a Grey knight book by Ben counter, not enough of the others.
The Blood Ravens enjoyed the supreme power of being the protagonists in a warhamer story. They are near untouchable.
I love that song in the beginning! One of my favorite classical songs
