I always love watching these Prop Replica videos... even though I'll never be able to afford them. OK maybe the 10th Doctor's TV remote...

The Wand Company's are, pretty much. They laser scan the actual prop used and reproduce it identically. The 10th Doctor's one one is 100% spot on from what I can see, and the 12th doctors (11s, but 12 was still using it) has some very minor deviations from the prop.

I just realized something: This screwdriver looks exactly like the Tardis console room, the emitter being the main part and all the metal bits representing all the various switches, levers and buttons seen on the console. Its also Tardis blue so maybe we should start calling it the Tardis Screwdriver

I am a bit disappointed because it only uses the toy light effects and not a red setting like shown by Peter Capaldi in an interview :/
The red setting was scrapped. Rubbertoe even made a post about it on his Instagram.
I absolutely love this Sonic design. It is the most unique Screwdriver we've gotten from the Revised Series and fits Twelve's turn back to the more serious, original Doctors before the Time War.
it's nice that this resembles the prop really closely especially with the switch but this is more of a collectors item. which is great to finally have but I love the toy personally

I am so looking forward to your reviews throughout 2017! I also loved your new intro! I loved this review and seeing the tiny differences compared to the Character toy!
The props originally had a five-position switch but when Character Options got a hold of the replicas they thought it was too complicated to use. They got the idea for double pressing the switch forwards or backwards. Then then the props were later tweaked to do the same thing except with the switch staying in place as before.
It's amazing! My only complaint is that there is no red setting

I seriously still don't get it. So originally there was going to be no speaker holes, then he changed it so that there would be, but people complained so he went back to the idea of not having them? Is that right?

Ehh it's not quite as good as the "It's An Ashton!" one in my opinion, but what can I say! I like my sonics shit and button-less!

You know I think I know the reason why the Screwdriver looks like that. In Deep Breath when under the clockwork restaurant when Clara was getting the Screwdriver out of the Doctor's pocket, she said something along the lines of "Next time, make one that doesn't role".

You should get the TARDIS docking port also from Rubbertoe to display the screwdriver. It's about 33 pounds or $40 for us Americans.

Um I'd like to point out something the people in the UK and in the US are both saying and pronouncing "Aluminum" or "Aluminium" correctly it is just spelled differently in each country "Aluminum" in the US is spelled with a "min" and in the UK its spelled with a "mini" so no matter how you say it both pronunciations are correct.

The US actually use the original spelling and pronunciation that the UK came up with. The extra I was added by Thomas Young in 1812 (36 years after the US became independent). He only did this to make it sound like other elements.

But it doesn't have the red setting that the actual prop has.
And I really hope they eventually make use of the claws on 12's sonic, because they're obviously there for a reason. All that'd be needed is to roll the circular part to open the claws and... well, something should happen. Either the emitter section extends, or it could be ejected like the warp core in Star Trek.

I for one am satisfied with the toy version since this sonic isn't my favorite, yet I do like it. It's more than enough for me to enjoy and be able to use should I decide to cosplay as Doctor Capaldi in the future. But Matt's sonic is my favorite even though I've given my remote a new paintjob to match one of Nick's custom designs. Love your reviews.

When I got the toy, and slide the slider twice on the spinning blue setting, the slider actually stand down and I recreated the scene where the twelfth doctor first gets his new sonic at the end of Hell Bent

Yet another awesome review mate! I absolutely loved it. I am not going to lie, I liked the new sonic design from the beginning. You want a bad design, look at the sonic sunglasses. I personally did not like them. Yeah, I was Capaldi, but I just feel that they were pointless and they got broken a couple of episodes later. Anyhow, great review and I hope you had a fantastic New Year.

It was confirmed on a talk show, that this sonic actually has a red setting, why this wasn't included in the replica Is a good question
Wyndrin1234 I've seen the clip. Capaldi mentions that it is the prototype he is using with the activation wheel and the red setting. The replicas are based on the Series 10 props which have the sliding activation button and the blue and green light modes.

I wonder what the difference is between the blue setting and the green setting (and red setting on other sonics) - Do both settings have the same range of functions (thus making it pointless to have different colours) or does it actually serve a real purpose in canon?

I got an idea for the new 'red' setting. Why not pushing down the wheel then the claws will extend and use the sonic as usual and the red sonic will emit

An interesting note about the sizing, given how you said it was pretty close to the toy: The company that makes the toys (Is it still Character?) were actually given two of these Rubbertoe sonics (Which are obviously based on the original prop) to work off, which is why the toy is so much closer to the screen version than previous sonic toys.
Ease of replication. The 11th sonic contained both moving parts, complex shape, and revealing parts.
The 12th sonic is a more simple design, no moving parts, or revealing parts. So it's pretty much an easy copy to do really.
While I agree with the fact that's it's much easier to replicate due to the lack of moving parts, I will say the design of this screwdriver is much more complex than 11's, what with the brackets, and the clamps, and various sizines of piping, and rings, and a gasket, and the emitter, amount of nerling and etc.
UniverseIndistries I like the 12ths sonic cause it's hard to really break. Cause one of my 11th doctor sonic toys broke and wouldn't stop staying in it extended form. And one of the blue buttons came off my 10th sonic.

This replica of Rubbertoe are so much expensive compare with the Wand Tv Remote screwdriver. If the people want the 12th doctor sonic screwdriver in metal/aluminium I recommend they wait. In some time the company Wand will do the Tv remote Sonic of metal and with lights/sounds. This replica is really really expensive....
I love hearing people say that their english version of aluminum is correct. It's not even logically correct or in any form close to the right pronunciation. The American pronunciation of aluminum is correct bc its pronounced like it's spelled.

So Stephen, has your opinion changed on the design of the prop?
The only real problem with this replica is the switch, seeing as the switch on the prop is a 5 position switch, whereas this is a 3 position switch.

Artie Fresh it wasn't tampered with, that's literally how it was made. A doctor who cosplay RUclipsr I watch knows the guy that made it and in the comments he said that it was terrible.

AnUntitledPicture There's not much to say on that matter. The biggest differences are that the lights and sounds are weaker on the prop but the aesthetic design is far superior on the prop. Also the button isn't spring loaded on the prop.
