    I purchased a CT in October off the CT site. It arrived three weeks ago (I got sonic 362). Now, I can’t speak for the quality of the original ones compared to the newer ones, but in all honesty I think my sonic came out great. When polished it looks sleek, and everything seems in order. The flick is phenomenal and there’s no funky pieces or anything of the sort. I’m glad I got it. I understand some have complained about a decrease in quality, so for all I know I just got lucky. Furthermore, when emailing CT about anything, I always made sure I was very cordial and understanding. He replied fast with short responses but seemed friendly nonetheless.
    The only complaint I have, and this is a small one, is that the red emitter included as a bonus wasn’t filed/sanded/shaved down fully, so when screwed on and extended, two of the claws sometimes get caught on the bottom resin.
    Sorry for the long comment, I just wanted to provide a bit of info to anyone curious and was thinking of getting a CT. Again, it’s possible I just got lucky.

    just a small correction - the pommel and collar ARE actually screen accurate, but to the later version of the sonic that has been used by 12th Doctor. Nick actually revamped and upgraded his initial design for series 8-9 - mostly to make it stronger and less finicky. You can see the 1st gen and 2gen prop pictures side by side on his website where he talks about the history of the prop. So to sum it up, the v2 is kinda the best of both words - the stronger design from later seasons plus the button from the gen 1. I personally prefer the look of the collar from the gen1 but Nick probably had his reason to update the design for the prop to be more sturdier.

      Hey! Sorry I somehow missed the notification for this comment when it posted, or I’d have responded sooner. Before doing this review, I spoke to Nick and he told me that this version was based on the original four filming props, so that’s the metric I used for this breakdown. But taking the later revisions into account actually makes this even more confusing… because apparently this has a hinged pommel, as used by 11, but with the dimensions of the hinge-less pommel of the 12? I think the scores would remain unchanged, honestly. But thanks so much for the extra context and please don’t hesitate to let me know if I make any factual errors in the future!

    The interesting thing with the CT at least with mine, sometimes the latency wasn't instant. I am now expecting my V2 Rubbertoe so this has me very excited. My 11 costumes are painstakingly screen accurate. So I can't wait for mine to show up. Fantastic video mate subbed!

      There’s a weird thing with the CT where the micro switch can be finicky if you have the pommel too tight. Try loosening it EVER so slightly and see if that helps it. If you still have it, that os. I noticed you used the past tense so perhaps you’ve sold it off. It took me until I was making this video to discover that tip, so apologies if I’m too late!

    recently started getting into the whole replica/cosplay scene and was wondering if you knew how often rubbertoe does runs of their 11th sonic? I know CT is done making new ones and is just selling leftover stock now (which i've heard has severely dropped in quality), so I was trying to see how often rubbertoe does runs of past props.

      Rubbertoe JUST put another batch on sale a couple months back, but to my knowledge all units have been purchased and he said on his Instagram that this will be the final run, of the model he’s replicating at least. I actually happened to be one of the people who managed to purchase the replica in time. So unfortunately, you might be out of luck when it comes to Rubbertoe. There are some 11th Doctor Universal Remotes being sold online which are said to be surprisingly SUPER good replicas even if it wasn’t intended to be one, though be weary that they’re fairly expensive, and sadly don’t flick open.
      If you’re left with absolutely NO choice, and wouldn’t dare resorting to the ugly Character Options toy unless you’re on a strict budget, Celestial Toystore sonic screwdrivers still make the cut even if they aren’t as illustrious as they once were. I purchased and received one earlier this year, and while it definitely had some issues I was still happy with it. It was still fun to “sonic” things and flick it open. But with that said, PLEASE handle it with care. Mine recently broke during transit on an airplane ride since I didn’t secure it properly enough I guess, and further more when I tried inspecting the issue. So be sure to handle it with ample care.
      Unless Rubbertoe decides to do another run of his screwdrivers, CT is likely the only option if you want something legit. You might have to sacrifice a marginal amount of quality but keep your expectations tempered and you should be content with the final product.

      @@nextofkin2321 hi, I got it back in the middle/beginning of February. So far it’s good. It looks amazing when polished, and the flick on the sonic I got is pretty good. Sometimes it gets a little tight and finicky but I think the Cape Cod polish I use lubricates it to flick better. The only complaint I have is that the red emitter that came with it isn’t fully sanded down on the bottom, so it screws on a little wonky but it still works I suppose.

    It seems CT's stopped making replicas a while back. I don't know him, but I wish him the best. Wish I was astute enough to get the Master's signet ring when he made them, as it's the last bit of the Master's outfit I don't have (aside from the overcoat with red lining, which Louise Page put together herself).
    I do very much want to get Rubbertoe's Laser Screwdriver though. Given how good his 11th Sonics became, I'm sure that the LS too will be excellent.

      CT has retired from the sonic game, yes. He has turned over operations to someone else in order to offload the remaining stock, but the quality is reported to have dropped off dramatically. I haven’t spoken to him in a few years at this point.

    • @PropsmithReplicas
      @PropsmithReplicas  2 года назад +6

      @@mfsmarineop693 Couple things:
      1) I highly doubt it will be shipping soon. Last reports I heard, people were waiting close to a year to receive their sonics.
      2) I can't speak directly to the quality of the newer ones as I have not seen one myself, I only know what I've heard (and I have seen at least one person who recently got one say that theirs was great).
      3) It's not like there's another option right now. If you can't find an early CT or a late Rubbertoe on the secondary market, then ordering one of the new and potentially not-perfect CT's is your only option, currently.
      4) Many people that got the early Rubbertoes that were chock-full of issues still really loved them, so even if your CT has issues, it'll still probably be pretty great.
      5) Lastly, if your CT ends up being on the really bad end (coming apart, non-working electronics, seizing flick, etc), there are people who will fix and/or upgrade it for you for a nominal fee. Check Facebook and Reddit for recommendations. You'll be fine.

    I wonder how difficult (if possible at all) it would be to essentially take the accurate bits from both Sonics to create the ultimate replica.
    i.e. the top of the Rubbertoe, the angled collar of the CT, the Rubbertoe leather and white handles, and the CT pommel.
    Probably not worth potentially damaging two rare items.

    • @PropsmithReplicas
      @PropsmithReplicas  Год назад +1

      The only parts you’d be able to swap between the two would really be the black leather section and the white handle. The pommel, in particular, is made completely differently on the two. The CT is male, with the body of the sonic as the female, and it’s opposite on the Rubbertoe. For me, I’d be happiest with the Rubbertoe for most of the sonic, replacing only the pommel with the CT.

    I bought a 10th doctor screwdriver from CT... the end kind of broke with the slider... he had me ship it to him and list it as a 25 dollar toy flashlight. I sent it off... it vanished during shipping... he told me it happens sometimes and not to worry about it, never made it to destination, he stopped responding to me, and I'm pretty sure i paid close to 300 for it. So... I ended up with nothing.

      That’s tragic. I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with that. The issue with his being based in China to avoid copyright claims also means he’s pretty untouchable from this perspective. The only advice I can offer is, if you paid with a credit card, try to do a chargeback. Unfortunately, if you paid with debit, that’s probably not possible. And, in the future, don’t listen to people who tell you to ship things with a low declared value. What they’re doing is asking you to risk the loss of your item so that they can avoid paying much of an import fee. And I can tell you for certain: CT is fucking LOADED. He can afford the import duty in order to fix his own faulty product.
