I recently started hearing a rodent in the roof, but there is no attic space, it is an open beam ceiling that has a complex design on a semi monitor construction. They are in the roof and mostly nocturnal but have heard them active in the day as well. I have a company that came and set traps in the small attic area that we can get to in the central part of the house, I think they mostly live inside the roof (over my bed no less) but also travel to the attic area, but so far after more than a week no takers for the bait. They charged $300 for 3 weeks of trap monitoring once per week which seems kind of high. It is more than my BMW payment on a weekly cost. What kills me is they HAVE to be getting in and out for food and water, but I only called the experts when I could not find any way in or out. They could not find it either, and the only place I can't inspect is the unfinished area around the jacuzzi tub in the master bath. There is access for plumbing and the motors, but you cannot see behind the tub. But then how did they even get under there? ????? I put out bait blocks when I first hear them and those are also not touched. I was wondering about maybe annoying them away. Their noses are so sensitive I thought about blowing incense smoke up into the roof to drive them away, and ditto their hearing, maybe noise would get rid of them? But without finding and plugging the entrance they will just return. This is really frustrating.
Get intermittent lights for your attic. Play extremely loud noise at the wall where you hear them. Feed them dry flake potatoes and plaster of Paris or baking powder or soda. Worked for me. GOD bless.
Use raisins for bait on the rat traps. Not as messy as peanut butter and the raisin can last up to a year. Rodents instinctively grab seeds, nuts, and berries. They can lick a trap clean without setting it off but Ive yet to see them pull a raisin off the hook without it tripping the trap.

The second time they used a "stronger bait" again the bait was not touched. The third time the guy said it must not be a rat problem and left.. I've tried every thing. Help
If it’s bad and you don’t have pets or small kids, poison, the blue looking blocks I find work the best, place the blocks in various places, place a half a bucket of water, they will eat the poison go to drink the water in the bucket and either drown or the water activates the poison killing them, they may die in a wall or roof and smell for a week or so and they will crap a lot and die, you can also get an idea where there coming from, by the activity from a location of the bait, this is the nuclear option, rat / mice traps are used in less extreme cases because you can easily retrieve the dead rat/mouse.
Great video. I need this for a property I manage. Rats are in the draintile and now in the basement ceiling. I think they have a pathway from the sewer to the draintile, then out into the basement walls and full access to the house. My tenants are terrified. Can you help in Chicago?
What kind of wire mesh did you use? Rats are great chewers so if I ask my handyman to seal a vent, it needs to be something I know will last awhile. We're struggling with rodents now and working on exclusion. Thanks for the great information.
Your welcome. We use XCLUDER felt with wire built in.it to fill in small holes then we recommend mesh that has a hole size no greater than 6 mm x 6 mm. As a general rule of thumb, if you can get a biro through a hole a mouse can fit through too.

We have a 5 yr old home. The rats have destroyed the AC unit. Now there are generations of rats running around in my home. I need professional help but the bill for the house takes most of our check. Not only that I have 3 hoarders living in the family who don't want to throw away their stuff. Even if the rats poo and peed all over it. I make sure to tell them every day it's their faults for not listening to me. Now I don't know where the rats are coming from. They've bypassed having to go into the garage first. We have had a dead rat in our walls because a plumbing company left poison up there (when we said that they had left some of their vents uncovered for 4 days while they installed a heat pump and mini splits.) They said they were going to "put a few traps up there." Now our tenants can NOT go near their master bedroom (for almost 3 weeks) due to a rotting rat. My traps have peanut butter, bird seed and pieces of bacon on them. The rats are sniffing the air but won't come out of their 'tubes'. I'm thinking about drilling holes in the walls where I 'think' the rat is and then smelling through the holes and if I find it, I'll cut a square out and then remove, sanitize and repair. Our tenants are absolutely at their wits end and so are we! What else can we do???

I can't tell if I have a squirell as well as rats...I've cught a rat recently laid out traps and poison. However they persist to tear out 6ft tall bats of insulation and are not taking the bait or poison ..everyday there is more damage to my father's home....i need help. Furthermore I'm poor and I can't tell what I'm hearing anymore. There was scratching now there's just bashing going on
The building has textured walls, wires and pipes running up them, cutting the whole tree down didn’t do anything but cause your customer added expense, your trap setting should be directed against a surface, and for god’s sake secure your plumbing stack covers with a hose clamp. That little square is just laziness. Btw if you live in a state with freezing weather, don’t put screen on you plumbing stacks.
I live in Vallejo ca,my wife and I have been fighting the never ending rat and mice war over 3 years. We plug one spot and some how they come in another way. The rats are older and fat ..not sure if that means something. We could use you expertise.
Why not take extra messures to block every resource the rats r using to get inside?! The tree helped them get up there so why would u want em 2 continue using the trees? Rats can chew through plastic given enough time & energy they can make a new entry way in a random spot!
@@christas.7608 Twins stated in another reply they came back per condo Assoc request & did a full exclusion & trapping on whole building due to rats returning to other units. So cutting down palm tree did not solve entire problem. Rats are persistent pests & like their homes with people. Palm should be replaced with tall thin tree that will not bend over roof.
so I got an electronic rat trap and a bait trap and so far they haven't worked. I have a feeling the electronic one will, but it might take some time. HOWEVER, I just got a tall kitchen plastic garbage can, a wooden board as a ramp, baited the bottom of the tall kitchen can and BINGO - took about an hour to catch the first live rat. No harm. Tossed him outside far away from the house. bye bye first rat....next...

Typically you dont use bare hand to set traps for rats...
Aren't you guys the same twins who played police officers in Hellraiser Bloodline?
Yes! “ “ hes got pins in his head”😂😂 we had a grea time shooting that movie.
There was scratching now there's just bashing going on
I wonder how much he paid to get them to come over
The building has textured walls, wires and pipes running up them, cutting the whole tree down didn’t do anything but cause your customer added expense, your trap setting should be directed against a surface, and for god’s sake secure your plumbing stack covers with a hose clamp. That little square is just laziness. Btw if you live in a state with freezing weather, don’t put screen on you plumbing stacks.
We don’t recommend cutting trees down. And we always support screens with hose clamps. Super important.
Is there a listening device to try to hear them in the walls
I was looking on Amazon for a device that enhances the noise in the walls & there r some on there if u want 2 take a look.
Hi Anthony
I live in Vallejo ca,my wife and I have been fighting the never ending rat and mice war over 3 years. We plug one spot and some how they come in another way. The rats are older and fat ..not sure if that means something. We could use you expertise.
Will that work on Biden and Harris
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
ROTFL !!!
You guys are good need you where i live lol
Why cut the tree down if you were going to mesh the flashing and vents?
Prevention
The rats don't pay rent . So, they haven't earned the right to the rooftop. Lol
Palm should be replaced with tall thin tree that will not bend over roof.
great videos, guys, thank you.
Good advice
He was just dangling that rat trap like it was nothing 😩😭
7:55 I caught one in a conibear trap (110) just a few days ago lol

so I got an electronic rat trap and a bait trap and so far they haven't worked.
