- I love painting an unsuspecting scene, and today's painting is a prime example; a photo I took from my travels in Italy, I hope you enjoy.

Another gem, Colley. And a nice tip of the hat to Robert at the end. ❤
Thanks; he surely deserves it.
It looked like you were literally painting under the eave of that roof! Brilliant painting Colley!
Thanks Gerald.
Hi Colley, and thanks for another great video. I see that in all your paintings you paint the lightest colours over a mid or dark tone that you've laid down first. Would you mind please explaining why you do this rather than just going in with the light on top of the canvas? Is it a corrective thing - adjusting the value - or does it produce a brighter sunlit feel? Or something else? I'd love to know as I really admire the light you achieve. Many thanks.
It’s more of a structural thing, it’s dangerous to put too much dark over light, the dark dries faster and could crack. Thanks for watching.
Utterly stunning , I say it every time , truly masterly , thank you so much for these videos, they are such a delight to watch
Thanks again Margaret.
Thanks Colley. I have photos I took of interesting windows in Porto and the Cotswolds that I’ve been reticent to paint but now I’ll have a go at them.
Sounds like an interesting scene to tackle; have fun.
Great videos, Thanl you Colley
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks a lot for your great videos.
And thank you for watching.
Great lesson. One of my favorite so far.
Glad to hear that; thanks for watching.
More good stuff.
Thanks Joel.
Would you ever consider leaving the clothesline out?
No, I felt it added another layer of rod depth to the scene.
please tell me, which medium do you use and at what stage of your work? how does your paint overlap one layer on top of another? or do you let the layers dry out?
Archival Oil, Lean Medium; and I use it from start to finish.
@@colleywhissonartist Thank you!
Great creativity, Colley!
Love your videos and commentary….but, sorry, I love ya man but I would rather see you painting rather than talking. More time with the painting part of your videos please. Fabulous shadows in this one. ❤️
Thanks for the comment. We’re currently playing around with the new format and will definitely tighten it up in future; hope you stay tuned.
