xMartyZz I don't know about "ever" but the bit with him sputtering helplessly at the Oculus is one of his funniest bits in a good long while and an instant classic.
xMartyZz I don't know, I actually enjoy it better when its really hard for him to critic a game, but he finds a way, E3, is to damn easy to criticize because its actually a huge hype train that doesn't need to promise anything at all to the gamers & fans of all those platforms.
Edison Trent People were actually told a few things about mechanics and the story. Just look it up on some of the popular dark souls youtubers. Vaati has a video. And DaveControlLive
guitar player111 " Just look it up on some of the popular dark souls youtubers. Vaati has a video. And DaveControlLive" This is the E3 review, not the "everything you can find on the internet about the game" review. Especially not things that come after E3. That should be really, really, really obvious.
My favorite part about the Microsoft conference is that the only thing that got legitimately spirited applause was the backwards compatibility announcement as if everyone was going "Holy shit, this means we don't actually have to play Halo 5 now."
Very clever, Mr. Escapist. You think that just because you put something by Yatzhee on your "new" channel that we will all flock to subscribe to it, do you? Well, you're right.
Concerning the motion control issue, it seems as if an actually intelligent solution was reached, because in 2020 vr motion controls are really good, it’s amazing what a good rumble pack can do to improve immersion
I cried a little bit at your criticism of fallout, not because you were wrong, but because I already pre-ordered the $120 pip boy edition. Even more sad, I still definitely think it was worth it.
You know, I still think Yahtzee was a bit too dismissive about motion controls being paired with VR. Sure, they were a giant load of wank without VR, but I’m not sure either of those things will work all that well without the other.
Pure gold. Thank you Yahtzee for these outstanding game reviews, been a massive fan for years and it's always nice to have a consistent game reviewer that won't sell out. A+
I think motion controls are analogous to VR in that they will be great if the technology is there, currently it isn't however. I don't understand why so many people are dismissing them outright.
I'm guessing because people want perfection, and they want it now?.. That's as to the "dissing outright" element. It's perfectly acceptable to criticized inadequate functionality, but disowning a whole field of progressing technology is another thing.
BuFufilms Probably because motion controls for many games are more forced onto the player as the only or ideal way to play games that have them while VR seems to be more of an optional ad-on. The comparison I can think of is with the Kinect. People hated games that forced you to use the Kinect's motion controls but for optional features like doing voice commands to order your squad in Mass Effect, the people seemed to like the Kinect because that was an optional ad-on. The Virtual Boy could be another example, that part of the reason why it failed could have been because you had to use the headache inducing headset to play the damn thing, while Oculus and the like plan to be add-ons to games you can play without them. So for motion controls to succeed they probably need to be optional.
BuFufilms after the burn from the Kinect & a very poor excuse for motion games from the likes of the WII, I'd say VR is useless until is fully perfected. this is why I"m going to stray clear of both oculus & sony's invention, as its nothing to get hyped over till something decent is released.
BuFufilms The moment where a good game developing studio like Naughty Dog or other as such HAS TO ABSOLUTELY FORCEFULLY CORPORATE the motion sensor dickhnology into your their should-be-could-be awesome game, is what makes it not worth it. Like the fucking kinect tank game which took microsoft something like 7mil to make. For the fucking kinect and it was horrible. Or the horror game which Yahtzee kind of could've liked, which again, was forced to be played by kinect. That's why.
BuFufilms The thing is I can go for imperfection Put i don't want what we have now many wii games managed to make the motion controls work by lying to you what motions you had to do I don't want the game to be unplayable but I also want to be able to do what I am trying to do with my motion at the very least roughly We are not there yet
This dude always nails it, his presentation style and Deadpan delivery of agitations has sort of become how i complain in my own head when i'm agitated now.
1:22 Even though I don't really agree with Yahtzee's aversion to motion censor controls (and didn't back when this was released) this part has stuck with me for ages.
I think Bethesda did really well on e3. After Fallout 4 was announced the whole internet blew up. Especially when they announced that there is a real pip-boy in it (if you get the pre order that costs $120) Todd Howard dropped the damn F-bomb while on stage to announce that. They even showed off some gameplay footage and it looks AMAZING. They even showed off a new faction called the Commonwealth Minutemen (which was shown off in the Xbox One e3 show) and showed some of the combat inside the power armor. They even announced that mods that were created for PC will be available for the Xbox One. Seriously holy shit, modding on a console that is easy to use? That is unheard of. However, if Bethesda wants mods for PS4 they will need to ask Sony for permission or else no mods for PS4.
You make it real by putting a smartphone in it. It connects to your game and instead of using the pip-boy in game you can use the companion app. I even came up with a challenge for the companion app. I want to make this public so I want people to spread the word about this challenge. Here is the challenge: Creator: Armin Kefayati Name: The Haunted Pip-Boy™ Challenge: Have someone in your household take control of the companion app for Fallout 4. They get to control what armor you have and what weapon you have equipped. They will even control Stimpak and drug use. For instance, if the player who is not in control of the app does a Bad Karma act, then the person who controls the app punishes them by giving them a bad weapon for the current situation. If the act is a good karma act then the person who has the app rewards the person by equipping an item suitable for the current situation. Variants: *An Asshole Ghost*- gives terrible items for the situation all the time. *A Grateful Ghost*- gives good items for the situation no matter what. *The Judgemental Ghost*- Actions depend on previous karma act. *The Lazg Ghost*- rarely does anything for the situation. *The Hyper Ghost*- makes the situation more interesting by using extreme ways to handle the situation and changes the radio all the time.
You know, Yahtzee's reaction to that motion control is the reaction I get, when I think I'm through the worst of MLP bombardment and one sign of fanfiction catches me off-guard.
Nintendo 3DS: LOOK WE HAVE AAAALL THE GAAAAMES! Mario & Luigi RPG, Legend of Zelda, (Kinda) Metroid, YOU NAME IT!! Wii U: Ummm... here is Mario Maker... and uuuum... So how does Sony, one of the world's biggest entertainment corporations, get away with having a Kickstarter? That sounds a little Scrooge-McDuck-ish to me.
Am i the only one who thinks Square Enix had the worst presentation this time? I mean seriously, all they did was announce a fucktillion of games to add to the other fucktillion of games they've announced and still not released, one of which being a FF7 Remake, which i think is a terrible idea to begin with. Alright, I'll give Squeenix ONE LAST chance with Kingdom Hearts 3. If that one blows, they're dead to me.
soschar2050 Thankfully, they're putting tons of work into KH3. Square's just been fucking around making a sixteenth Final Fantasy or whatever for an entire console generation.
soschar2050 Oh thank God, I've found another human being who thinks that remaking FF7 is a terrible, terrible idea which cannot turn out well. I was beginning to think I was all alone out there...
soschar2050 Japanese companies give zero fucks about E3 because all of their interest holders are over in Japan, at Japanese conventions. A Japanese publisher rarely makes any worthwhile announcements on a western convention. You wouldn't expect Bethesda to announce Fallout 4 at Tokyo Game Show, either.
Here, here! E3 is basically a sewage plant. In fact, I named the sewage plant I built in Fable 3 E3. Although I guess it would of been more E3 based if I dumped all the waste in Mourningwood.
lewrl1 Well this was technically made 2 weeks ago since this was uploaded a week ago on escapistmagazine.com and it takes about a week to make a Zero Punctuation episode. You can also factor in the games that he wanted to talk about too like Splatoon and Hatred, 2 really "popular" in this day in age.
***** I don't go on the escapist website, so I wasn't aware that these are released two weeks late on youtube. Thanks for being considerate of other people, and fuck you too.
Toxic Whiteout I'm with you on that. Totally hyped for Fallout 4. In regards to the crafting system, they did bring up a good point that Fallout's story and lore has always been about rebuilding society, so being able to build your own settlements is a logical step forward. That said, I'm most excited for weapon crafting and having more choices to customize my weapons.
Krebons1200 Obviously, yes. Fallout has always been like that. It's an open world game with a main storyline. I don't understand why anyone is questioning whether or not it would have a central focus, lmao. Fallout games always have a main storyline.
Toxic Whiteout They do, this is true. The criticism by Yahtzee, is that there is no main focus. I remember my first time playing New Vegas, for example, when I saw Benny again, I'd completely forgotten by then who he was, that he shot me, that I was a courier, and that my whole mission was to go and kill the dude.
actually backwards compatibility is for all the 360 games. It's just going to take a while to build the digital cross over library. The disks will all work.
Wait... At the end... I can now see Yahtzee three times a week? My god... This is amazing! Also hurry up with the next Ego review! Can't wait till Sunday!
The only way Last Guardian could be any better is if you replace the kid and griffin with the last sole-surviving human on earth and Godzilla. You hope and pray you can coax the kaiju into moving where you want him to make progress, otherwise you can call us extinct. So yes, I'm very excited for Last Guardian. Fuck E3, fuck the hype train, and fuck you Nintendo for envisioning an impossible scenario of a Metroid game without Samus.
abloogywoogywoo I think what was shocking was the piss poor quality of that game & its graphics, seriously what is Nintendo been doing for the last 2 years, its not like they have had any real good games aside from like super smash bro 8 or whatever.
Zachary Erickson platform games still have a lot of value look at all successful indie ganes most are platform side scroller games, and metroid has so much nostalgic advantage no one would even complain if it released for the 3DS
Marcel Rows Also Silent Hill 2, Half Life, Shadow of the Colossus, Just Cause 2 etc. In the full ending of this video, which can only be seen on the Escapist website, (which sucks but whatever) Yahtzee said he was very excited for the upcoming Just Cause 3.
Wow! Everything is just so funny, I LMAO'd! Especially with the groin attack on lampposts with one foot tied! And Yahtzee ripping off an imp's head and barfing down its neck! XD
Salvatration Halex well how many of those 2000 are any good? Maybe 400? So yeah. And it's a better effort been sony. They just want you to pay 60 dallars for last gen games with slightly shinyer paint.
Joseph Tafoya Dude, Yatzee is right. There are about 2000 games out there, and it's only your own opinion that there are only about 400 good ones. For all we know they could skip the good ones and open up the really shit ones you hate to be compatible. Putting a small limit on backwards capability is just stupid.
I'm surprised he didn't talk about the stupid Mass Effect-styled dialogue wheel. In a game about character freedom, as the people at Bethesda say it is, it seems rather ridiculous that they would limit your dialogue options to four-per-branch when conversing with NPCs.
I never watch E3 because it's just the same fans that scream at anything they say such as Apple fans. It's sickening, you know all those people will throw their money at a half-assed project, hype it up to everyone online, then when it comes out it's not what they hyped it up to be, and thus go back to everyone online and join in with the "I told you it would be shit" and they're never held accountable for being shit customers in the first place.
***** You say that, but apparently you've never seen any of the times where something is announced and no one claps, cheers or anything. It sounds to me like you're taking small sample and extrapolating that into the entire thing.
***** Yes. Humans are stupid, as a general rule. There are exceptions, but not enough to base an argument off of in this case. "Pre-order opportunities" and "cinegraphic trailers" have been very specifically insulted and made fun of in most of the gaming/E3 talk circles I've visited, such as the gaming section on Memebase, Roosterteeth's The Know and The Patch, Spacebattles forums, LoadingReadyRun's Checkpoints, and a few "E3 discussion" Twitch streams.
Edison Trent Yea I'm not trying to cast the blame on everyone in the audience, but you gotta say that most of them are behind pushing that hype train and only when they notice their friends see the bullshit do they agree with you haha. Maybe I'm just cynical and see only the bad in general public.
***** Well, the important thing to remember is people in the audience at E3 stuff paid to be there, so you already know that they are very likely (I'd give it a 80%) to be fanboys/girls
To make things clear: Microsoft's app is an emulator. You can use any game you want if you have the disk. They just cant give you digital copies due to copyright.
"Almost nan, I actually wanted you to jam it between your crusty folds, and hammer it home with a wire brush." I laughed way too much at that gross idea.
Damn it Escapist! The end credits sequence in this video were actually important, he talked about some games he left out in the video but you cut it off! Guys to talk the end credits scene go to Escapist's website. He literally said about Just Cause 3: I JUST CAME IN MY PANTS
I didn't hear anything you said because FINAL FAnTASY VII REMAKE!!!! Kidding. Seriously though, this video pretty much sums it right up. Not just E3, mind you. The industry as a whole. "We promise you'll like our shiny things! Here's a snip it!" "So pretty! Must have it!" *barfs up money* "So, here's that thing we promised! Sorry about the shiny parts... not being there... we were too busy spending your money"
the games that are backwards compatible are limited but only slightly, they will continue to add more and more games by what people vote and what the developers want, pretty soon most of the games will be available
I picked up both controllers and key board/ mouse for playing games fairly easily, but I never could get the hang of motion controls, I tried red steel 1 and 2, smash bros brawl, and zelda twilight princess at a friends house but never really got into the whole motion control thing. I don't really feel like getting into VR because I would like to preserve my eye-sight but I can see the appeal, however motion controls in vr are even more clumsy than they normally are, so the option to play in VR with a controller or keyboard/mouse set up should always be an option, and the warping forward in VR games is very immersion breaking, I prefer to have the option to walk and run, that should also always be present as well. Most gamers don't really want to be flailing around their living room, stop trying to get us to move around already lol.
"NO. NO NO NO. WE WERE ALMOST FREE"
I'm crying XD
"Im thrilled to announce Im now going to stand here and imagine a game!"
...This HAS happened before though. Remember Bioshock Vita? lmao
1:22 might be one of my favorite Yhatzee moments EVER.
"Nice picture postcard landscapes. I look forward to next year's teaser when you find something to put in them."
Kind of sums up E3 every year XD
And also there's going to be a special two-handed controller that incorporates motion con-NO!
That incorporated motion s-OH GOD NO!
That incorporates motion sensor tech-NO NO NO WE WERE SO CLOSE!
jonn smith Yes, we all watched the video too, you might as well have just commented "1:21"
SpectrumUK Time Stamps don't get upvotes though.
WE WERE ALMOST FREE!
All aboard the hype train. Chooo chooo motherfuckers. But at least we're getting Just Cause 3.
Anaf Mujeeb YAY!!!!!
Anaf Mujeeb JC is love JC is life ;-;
Anaf Mujeeb Just Cause 3 & Mad Max, and best part is both are from the same developers, so you know they will have great crazy sandbox elements!!!
Kul Zaze Max Max will have the JC developers?
Now I'm interested.
Usoland, Descendant of Noland and Destroyer of Sugar yes I recently found that out too, just watch mad max gameplay trailer it's a pretty awesome sandbox environment
This is definitely the funniest video you have ever made, Yahtzee. Cynicism at its best.
xMartyZz I don't know about "ever" but the bit with him sputtering helplessly at the Oculus is one of his funniest bits in a good long while and an instant classic.
xMartyZz I don't know, I actually enjoy it better when its really hard for him to critic a game, but he finds a way, E3, is to damn easy to criticize because its actually a huge hype train that doesn't need to promise anything at all to the gamers & fans of all those platforms.
What do you think this is a talent show ?
FUCK OFF .
One of the best at least, i still think that his 3ds review is the best (:
xMartyZz I enjoyed his fake Duke Nukem review... more sarcasm than cynicism, but whatever :D
Well I was completely shocked that he didn't mention Dark Souls 3.
ChaoticSloth He mentioned as much as we were actually told about the game during E3.
Edison Trent People were actually told a few things about mechanics and the story. Just look it up on some of the popular dark souls youtubers. Vaati has a video. And DaveControlLive
ChaoticSloth Dark Souls 3? You mean Blood Borne? Or would that be Demon's Souls 5?
Yakko Warner Wut.
Where are you getting these numbers from lol

One of my favorites so far. My kidneys were in pain when Yahtzee lost his shit over motion control being in Oculus.

You must be fun at parties
So must you
Are you seriuos ?
samil bilin You must be new here
samil bilin lol what's your problem?
lampenpam Who said he had a problem...
5:22 is an eternity of silence in an Escapist video xD
For a moment I thought the video stopped...
I cried a little bit at your criticism of fallout, not because you were wrong, but because I already pre-ordered the $120 pip boy edition. Even more sad, I still definitely think it was worth it.
"A game that can let the player do anything, is a game that focuses on nothing" wise words....

Substance D That exclamation mark put me off guard

Right below thomas
Is the Cole Train your first favorite?
FalloutRaptor So what is your favourite? The once hourly from London Euston to Milton Keynes?
***** CHOO!!! CHOO!!!
Oof, that rant about motion controls hasn't aged very well.
Fast forwarding and rewinding with the arrow keys is the most demonic-chant-y sounding thing ever.
2:20, the sheer beautiful hatred in his tone when he says that line.
I've waited for this video for sooo long!
Same
I have as well
Its been out for a week already😒
KGODSMACKC on escapist yes. But escapist and mobile devices get together like Nazis and Jews.
David Mobeck good analogy
For those excited for the FFVII remake, I have one sentence that will kill your franchise:

Nick Dettmer that's actually pretty good. Can we call someone to suggest this?

It's not a Real Pib-boy
Armin Kefayati Yeah Bethesda made a really strong presentation at E3. Im just glad Yahtzee didn't critize it much unlike SONY.
Plus he also said it would be released during November wooooooo
You make it real by putting a smartphone in it. Why isn't anyone else excited about the Nier sequel?
dyldragon1 sadly nobody played the original -_-
IKR Yoko Taro was just so casual with his giant head. No one gave a crap.
Because nobody has heard of the game. Ever.
Nathan Cassidy really? I mean I thought at least everyone heard of the Futa chick.
dyldragon1 I was super excited but I felt like you, nobody else seemed to care that much
I'm thrilled to announce that I am now going to stand here and imagine a game in my head

I miss judging by the cover
I do as well.

Peirs Morgan 2016.
Well, he was pretty close
And then the motion sensors for vr was actually quite good
Yep. Was binging these, and it's quite funny to hear that today.

I came from a man who put a hat on.........that sounded better in my head.....
Surely the most brutal episode so far
lol. when they thought EscapistPlays was going to be a successful channel
Okay, the metaphor involving the kidnapped girl for Microsofts backwards compatibility scheme was spot on XD
Your Fallout 4 analysis in this was just wrong in my opinion. Fallout is going to be amazing as it always is. Fuck it, I'm totally hyped for it.
Toxic Whiteout I'm with you on that. Totally hyped for Fallout 4. In regards to the crafting system, they did bring up a good point that Fallout's story and lore has always been about rebuilding society, so being able to build your own settlements is a logical step forward. That said, I'm most excited for weapon crafting and having more choices to customize my weapons.
chill dude
So you think that the game will have a central focus, despite being a game where the player can do anything?
Krebons1200 Obviously, yes. Fallout has always been like that. It's an open world game with a main storyline. I don't understand why anyone is questioning whether or not it would have a central focus, lmao. Fallout games always have a main storyline.
Toxic Whiteout They do, this is true. The criticism by Yahtzee, is that there is no main focus. I remember my first time playing New Vegas, for example, when I saw Benny again, I'd completely forgotten by then who he was, that he shot me, that I was a courier, and that my whole mission was to go and kill the dude.
Just hysterically laughed that whole video. Thank you for that video
Cleganebowl?
I still feel the same way Yahtzee does about motion controls. I don't know why I can't just play VR games with a damn controller
The Last Guardian will turn into the new Duke Nukem: Forever
actually backwards compatibility is for all the 360 games. It's just going to take a while to build the digital cross over library. The disks will all work.
Let's see what overly hyped and poorly made games are going to be clogging up our add space this year!
It’s strange to watch this when these games have already released.
Does this guy even love games? Whats his favourite game if he have any
Brooks Portal and pschonauts are his favorite but for the most part he likes good games like far cry and shadow of mordor.
Marcel Rows i think he also likes Spec ops the line
but the yahtzee is a unusual beast
xET3RNALx xEVOx True that man
He really likes the Theif games. Though, he still hates the reboot Theif game with a venomous passion.
XD
Way off base with Fallout 4, frankly.
And also the backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games they said that they are going to have 100 games by fall so obviously wasn't paying attention
Zedek Not really, he was spot on. "LOOK, A FALLOUT GAME! WE DID STUFF WITH IT!"
"NO...... OH GOD NO!.......NO NO NO NO NO, WE WERE ALMOST FREE!!!!!"
LMFAO PURE GOLD LOL
weenis
CletustheYokel7396 Lol...
I was expecting a first, but that works too!
I freaking LOVE these videos!!!!!!!
This was perfect. Worst E3 I can remember.
I see you weren't around for 2013.
I probably was. But I've forgotten about it haha
Daryl Miller How did you forget the E3 filled with all the crap about the PS4 and XO at launch
Where were you for 2009?
2:19 love that Comstock. style
Edison Trent But, would they continue announcing pre-order opportunities or keep making cinematography trailers if those people weren't eating it up?
Everygame will be compatible for the xbox one. It will just take time so theyre doing the library of games in segments.
What happened to the quick little texts talking about some games like Just Cause 3 and Mirror's Edge 2?
"Almost nan, I actually wanted you to jam it between your crusty folds, and hammer it home with a wire brush."
I laughed way too much at that gross idea.
Speaking truth. Hate seeing any virtual reality stuff in movies now days cause see how no where close we are in real life as in these video game demos
Damn it Escapist! The end credits sequence in this video were actually important, he talked about some games he left out in the video but you cut it off! Guys to talk the end credits scene go to Escapist's website. He literally said about Just Cause 3: I JUST CAME IN MY PANTS
Yahtzee, your desperstion and disappointment towards the future of the Oculus has made my day
I didn't hear anything you said because
FINAL FAnTASY VII REMAKE!!!!
Kidding. Seriously though, this video pretty much sums it right up.
Not just E3, mind you. The industry as a whole.
"We promise you'll like our shiny things! Here's a snip it!"
"So pretty! Must have it!" *barfs up money*
"So, here's that thing we promised! Sorry about the shiny parts... not being there... we were too busy spending your money"
Best vid you've posted in a while.
I just got my wisdom teeth out and there were a couple occasions where I thought my laughter was going to split my face open
kinda surprised that he said something about backwards compability , but nothing about the new controller MS is coming up with.
The only youtuber who i have witnessed speak some sense about E3 to date.
"But the game where the player can do anything is a game that focuses on nothing" - Best gaming quote I've ever heard
0:43 so cute!! the little guy! 😆
Yahtzee, it would be amazing to see you on the Co-Optional podcast, the banter between you and TB would be pure solid gold!
Whoops butterfingers dropped my honor again.
Best commentary about an e3 ever. :D
Ah, the weekly reminder to go check their website for the new episode.
the games that are backwards compatible are limited but only slightly, they will continue to add more and more games by what people vote and what the developers want, pretty soon most of the games will be available
Yahtzee sounded so bitter during the Bethesda segment
