    Right so what went wrong with Moraag: You played a land during your second main phase but wanted to crack it during your 'third' main phase. Moraag doesn't give you another main phase so that doesn't work.
    But if you just crack the land during the second main phase then Moraag will trigger multiple times. So here's your turn: Draw, Main Phase 1, Regular combat 1, Second main phase, Play Fetchland, Crack fetchland, Untap and Combat 2, Untap and Combat 3, End step.

    This was an incredible watch thank you so much. The way Moraag works is it has the untap trigger at the beginning of the extra combat steps. However if you trigger landfall before your first combat, the extra combat will trigger, then regular combat which does not have an untap trigger. If you trigger landfall during your second main phase, multiple combat steps will work how you want it to, but after your final combat step you go straight to your end step.

    The rulings for Moraug are kind of odd. Maybe I am wrong, but I think that, so long as all your landfalls are in a main phase, you can stack as many combats as you want. Since it doesn't add an additional main phase after the combat if you go: normal combat, landfall, additional combat, (no longer in a main phase, so you are done here). But if you go in the following order: main phase 1, landfall + fetch, additional combat, additional combat, normal combat? In other words, you probably want to trigger the Moraug in your first main, since this gives you the option to trigger it again in your second main if you need/are able to.
    Edit: checked the ruling, so it kind of works how I expected. But obviously, if you do it pre-combat main, you don't get to untap during your actual normal combat, and it will come last. So its probably best to trigger all the landfalls at the start of the second main.
    I think, don't quote me.

    • @BoshNRoll
      @BoshNRoll  2 года назад +27

      I figured it out through an EDH game a few days after this league:
      You will get every combat step granted through a landfall in a main phase. However your creatures only untap off of Moraug combats, not your normal combat, so you want to attack normal first then play all your lands second main.

      @mattherson7877 2 года назад +1

      Regarding Boros Battleshaper, there's a huge difference between Commander and Legacy in threats and answers. Since several Legacy decks rely on a single big creature to go the distance (e.g. Murktide, Emrakul, Uro, Kaldra, Marit Lage) and unconditional removal is pretty rare (i.e. Swords to Plowshares and the occasional AssTrophy), Battleshaper seems to line up strangely well. :o

    @Omnicloud7strife 2 года назад +3

    Brian, the ruling for Moraug is as follows (from Gatherer):
    There won't be an additional main phase after the additional combat phase. For example, if the landfall ability resolves twice during your postcombat main phase, you'll get two consecutive additional combat phases after your main phase (untapping your creatures at the beginning of each), followed by your ending phase.
    The key is to make all the landfalls happen at once in a main phase. You could crack off five in a row, plus the normal one, but you can't sequence it to repeat as: "combat, main, combat, main." You End up with: "Main Phase, Combat, Combat, Combat, Combat," depending on how many triggers you get.
    Obviously, knowing exactly how this card works isn't a huge deal for you (unless this is a new Legacy Staple TM), but just to answer your questions between 46 and 47 minutes into the video about it.
    I love this deck. I love everything about this deck. I brewed up something like this once, and it was terrible, and beautiful. The Standstill is an excellent touch, and Urza's Saga really lets this idea flourish in a way I never thought of. Thanks for providing this excellent content. Keep up the great work.
    Edit: Yooooo, that record, though. New meta confirmed!

    • @mattherson7877
      @mattherson7877 2 года назад +1

    On Round 4 your opponent probably thought that you had another combat phase after this one since you had uncracked fetch land... 1 hp is not the case for them

    Amazing video. This deck seems very viable. Here and there you were a bit lucky and on top of that yiu had the surprise factor, but the numbers don’t lie (10-0). Good job.

    From what I understood Minotaurs can be either lawful and noble or Savage and feral. That would be Boros aligned. Maybe there's someone who knows more mythology out there.
    I totally woke up knowing I was gonna think about minotaur color-alaignment the rest of the day...

      To see the difference in magic lore, look at Ravnica minotaurs (Boros Noble warriors) and compare them to Theros minotaurs (rakdos brutal savages under the god Mogis).

    Let's didgeridoo this thing. Oh no you didgerididn't. Didgeridon't. Minotaur-de-force. Kneel before the fury of the herd. Jesus christ, I can't get enough, the minute I saw the thumbnail I started laughing, thinking of the last time you played against this. Absolutely unbeatable content - you didgeridid it. You really didgeridid it.

    I try not to read the titles of your videos because I know they contain spoilers (to help with engagement), and I am glad I got to be surprised at the end of this video. My goodness, what an amazing league. Kudos on the stellar navigation and the little bit of luck to get that incredible record. It is impressive all the angles this deck pressures your opponents. I am not sure how I would handle removing a Didgeridoo thinking I have your deck figured out only to see a Standstill hit the stack.

    Yeah how Moraug works is really confusing, probably because they had too little space on the card. Kind of unfortunate, I really like the card, but I've never seen someone not misunderstand the landfall trigger :(
    You can get multiple extra combats out of him with fetches or explore effects, the important thing to remember is to always get all your landfall triggers in your second mainphase and he will work how you want him to.

    at 44:30 - you can get multiple combats with moraug, but they all have to be triggered in your second main phase; for some reason, unlike most extra combat effects, moraug doesn't give another main phase after your extra combat step. maybe that, plus the "if it's your main phase" stipulation, is meant to prevent some kind of combo with cards like sakura-tribe scout? not sure.

  • @tzvirubin9708

    Btw Brian, as the resident EDH player i think you misunderstood how moraug works. Yes, you dont get additional main phases but you do get more than one additional combat. AT the beginning of each of those combats, you untap all creatures. So if you fetch during second mainphase, you'll get two additional combats, and untap all of your stuff at those combats. after that, you'll go straight to endstep.
    I think i'd be on 4 battleshapers after watching the video but i dont think i'd just pull all the moraugs.
