Do you have the 689cc HO version or the 655 Learner version?
Full power for full excitement.
Thanks for the review!
Glad to help!!
Hey Berlin Biker...I picked up a 2018 MT 07 a month ago, added a M4 muffler (sounds so much better), tail tidy, and swapped out the bars, and I too was wondering if I was truly happy with it, now that I have almost 1,000 miles on the ODO. Well, I have to say, I think I am happy with it. I rode larger bikes when i was younger (YAMAHA 650, Virago 750. XS and VStar1100,'s), but today's modern mechanical improvement render a bike with way more torque and the fun factor. Thanks for the video. I subbed!
JP1970 what bars did you throw on to your MT? Would love to see how it turned out, I’ve seen a few people throw MX bars on it and I’m thinking about moving to that. Completely agreed, the torque on this bike is wonderful. It really makes it a perfect bike.
Thanks buddy...here’s a link to my handlebar upgrade: ruclips.net/video/lcSR-xCpZc4/видео.html I have done some riding videos recently. Check them out. Thanks again!
Hey Berlin Biker, I really like your videos!
Thank you!! Appreciate the support.
Would you change the gearing to make it less wheelie-prone? Would you add an aftermarket windscreen? How good is the suspension?
The bike comes up only when you want it to, no need to change the gearing. The power on the bike is solid, but we aren't talking about a 200hp super bike here. I added an aftermarket windscreen that looks better than it performs. Would I add a larger windscreen? Maybe, I've been thinking about it since I'm going to do some longer tours this summer. As for the suspension, it is the only downfall of the bike to be honest. They had to go cheaper somewhere, and they chose to go there.
I was waiting to see as you mentioned at the beginning “Blasting trough the corners”...it never happened, just a boring ride, on a boring straight roads. I would literally fall asleep on roads like that. Good choice of bike, I own one and it’s an amazing bike for the money. Good quality video, keep making them, but choose more interesting roads please.
Jopa Ljakpo hey there, thanks for the comment. Unfortunately Berlin is not known for the best roads in the world. So, these “corners and hills” that I have are good as they get. It’s sad hahah. But big trips coming up this summer, so stay tuned!!
Should I get 07 2017 or 2018?
I love your natural and honest way of vlogging pal. I am about to purchase my first bike ever and I am really hesitant between the 07 and 09. Some told me you'll be committing suicide if you get the 09 as your first bike. Do you think it's that dangerous to do so? thank you
First bike, ever? Don’t get an 09. Absolutely no need whatsoever. It’s heavy, it’s fast, it’s not a good first bike. Hell, look at the MT03 if it’s your first bike.
MT-09 will get u in trouble for a noobie. Too much power to deal for a beginner !
Hey there. I ride a tracer 700 and I love it. Before I had a bmw k1200 rs with 136 hp. But the weight was twice as much than te tracer. The mt07 tracer is much more fun to ride than the big beamer.
The mid-weight bikes are the perfect balance of weight and power. There are very little reasons why I would consider anything north of 1000cc ever again.
What brand did you get that windscreen from? I really like the looks however I have seen some windscreens just like this that did not have an ABE or E-number and therefore are not legal in Germany
Samuel here is Video I made about where I got the windscreen and how to install it. ruclips.net/video/tQa32uEH5pE/видео.html. As for the legality of it, I’m honestly not sure. It’s not a massive piece by any means and if need be I’ll remove it before an official inspection.
thinking about changing my 2005 hornet 600 to this 2018 mt07. am i wrong to do so?
Absolutely not. The change will be drastic and only for the better.
What kind of mic do you use? The sound quality is great!
Hey there, here is the list of everything that I use in my audio setup, RØDE Smartlav+ Lavalier: amzn.to/2phtnm5, RØDE SC3: amzn.to/2oB48tN, RØDE MINIFUR-LAV Windscreen: amzn.to/2oAS2km.
I think you are falling into the bhp trap, most motorcyclists do, wondering what if i had more power, i have the mt07 tracer and it has all the power that i need
i like the fact that i can rev the engine and enjoy the feeling of using the power, this is something that you can,t really do with 140+ bhp bikes because they are just to powerful
that,s why they introduced rider modes, so relax and be content with your mt07, also bigger bikes are heavier and not so nimble and they are almost double the price, so keep
riding my friend and be happy you have the best bike for you.
This is a solid way to think about it. My MT07 has more than enough power, because it’s all usable power. Who actually uses all the power in a 1000cc bike? Especially on the street. I think my biggest want would be an upgrade on certain parts, suspension being the biggest issue. But, in time I guess it can all be upgraded.
While I agree, having additional power at the ready is desirable imo.
Why do you see it as detrimental?
Berlin Biker Was a mistake, I edited my comment.
All good, more power is always nice. We both agree on that haha
are the bars rubber mounted on the 2017 model?
You'd still end up doing an exhaust system and ecu flash on the 09 as well and probably lamenting the suspension too.
That's a good point, there is aways more that you can do to make the bike better.
Nice comments. I suspect you know the 2018 model has many of the improvements you’re looking for.
Yep yep, a little more adjustability out of the suspension front and rear.
What I noticed, after 6000 klm on my Ninja 400, the motor just let go; it freed up. I think bikes need that running-in period to free up.
Power is not everything, sometimes something less is more. And before you spend money for a loud exhaust think about it. My advice from experience, the best money spend on a budget bike is the suspension.. trust me, spend the money on the suspension upgrades. Ride the bike a bit more so you fully get used to it and know what capable of , then upgrade the suspension, it will totally transform the bike, confidence will get higher even more hence more the fun.
ripmax333
I do agree with what you say but ,
I would buy the louder exhust first because the dickheads in cars don't look when your filtering so if they can hear you coming hopefully,
It would avoid an accident .
In general, louder is always better. Sex, motorcycles, everything.
Is the MT07 2018 a good bike to start/re-start? I don't ride more than 20 years and I really want a Bike to ride around but I'm afraid that's to much power for me...
+Hugo I think it’s a solid bike, but if you are afraid of the power it’s already too much for you. I would suggest look at the MT-03 or the KTM 390 Duke. Get comfortable on a smaller bike, and then make the jump in a season or two.
British Rider here, looking for a step up to the big leagues and I'm thinking the MT-07 is what I need. I've currently done over a year on a CB125F but now I'm more confident on the road with some mileage under my belt and longing for the twistys, would you recommend this? Or is it's tendency to kick up a wheelie gunna make that a no no? Thanks
The bike has power, but not enough to scare you away. Plus, the overall size and weight of the bike would make it a good choice as your next step. It’s a solid bike that will give you years of pleasure.
Berlin Biker Thanks for the quick feedback, I've set a date to have a test ride on the bike. Feels like Christmas 😍. Plus im looking forward to your future content as I'll for sure be subscribing
I’m glad to be able to give some help. Buying a bike is not an easy task, every time I do it, it never gets easier. Let me know how you like the bike!!
How many Miles before you gotta fill up petrol
Hi quick question when riding a low speed does your bike steering feel heavy and twitchy? I take a MT07 for a test ride and noticed the steering was heavy in slow corners around town could it just be the tyre pressure?
I think it was just the tire pressure because I’ve had no issues flicking the bike around traffic at slow speeds.
Thanks mate 👍
Glad to be of help!!
I had been going back and forth between the Vulcan S and the MT-07... I Have decided to go with the MT-07... In March I will be picking one up... Any major cons? I always hear how great it is, for the price point...
It’s a tremendous bike for the money. Honestly, you can’t beat it. Throw a Grand at it down the road to stiffen the forks and a new exhaust and the bike is perfect.
Hey man! I live in Germany too and this is going to be my first bike Germany (already have experience riding bikes earlier). I wanted to ask are bikes really suitable for all the seasons in Germany. I rarely see people riding during winters here. I was thinking of using the bike for daily commute to my work and maybe a tour once a month or something. What do you suggest? Great review btw! Cheers
Sharan K it depends on how much you want to torture yourself haha. But in Berlin, my bike sat for almost three months because it was below freezing point and the roads were constantly wet, not worth the risk in my opinion. But, that’s Berlin. In Hamburg I feel like you could ride longer into the winter.
I agree, its not worth the risk. Although, I live in Heidelberg and it rarely goes below freezing point (around a month in Feb) so that's a relief. Thanks for clearing that up. Enjoy the summer riding ;)
There is one thing to consider. This bike's weight is 182 kg with 75 horsepower. There are cars with the same horsepower but which are wayyyyyyyy heavier. Also, there are bikers wheeling with this bike. So me as a new biker I am kinda scared about the MT-09 and MT-10. These bikes must be monsters :)
Way too much of a bike for your first bike. I honestly should make a video about the dangers of thinking you can ride better than you actually can because for most people, the MT03 is the perfect learning bike. I jumped into the MT07 because I’ve been riding on dirt for almost 20 years.
I should have noted that I have the A2 license. The bike is gonna be limited to 35 kW anyway so don't worry haha. Once I have my A license I'll be able to use the 55 kW. But until then I'll have more experience :)
Hi there, well my question is.......does a 6ft 1'' fit this fz-07??? Cause the fz07 is still not release in my country.....
bencius teo I think you might be a bit tall for the bike. Being 100% honest, I think someone in that 5’ 8-10” is the perfect size for the bike. But, once it’s released test it out. It might be perfect for you
Berlin Biker ok cool thanks alot! Hope to see more vlogs from you!
Hey guys. I have a question. I just bought a new 2018 a week ago. After 400 km's my chain got very loose. I had to tighten my chain already 2 times in the first 500km's. The dealer says its normal if someone could tell me please if thats ok or not? First 400km i had a 70mm space (max is about 58mm). When i tightend it to 51mm it got to 60mm again after 100km's.
Between the chain breaking in and axel bolts loosening up, there are a few things that could be the culprit here. But, how is it now? Still bad?
that stack of wood looks like it smelled good
It did smell nice! Let me paint you the scene, it was a damp morning. The grass was wet from the storm that danced its way through northern Germany. The wood, freshly cut, had drops of dew falling off of it as the sun warmed the earth.
Then I peed behind the wood.
Perfect bike, just waiting for tenere 700!
Seriously though, that bike will be amazing.
Berlin Biker sure yes 🙏🏻
First video to hi 20,000 views!! Thank you everyone, super excited about this.
Great review, I'm 5'8" would this bike be a good fit. Thinking of getting one. Thanks.
I’m 5’9” the bike fits perfectly.
I’m 5’8 and I’m on the balls of my feet with this bike. I do have a short in seam so there’s that.
Hi, is it possible to switch the ABS off if you go into off roads?
Nope, ABS is on forever.
Burtoni Motors fuse?
Would you buy the MT-07 again or rather go for something like the new KTM 790? I'm looking to buy a bike, and I'm hesitating between these two. KTM is more expensive (also maintenance and insurance) but it is way better equipped - I especially like the C-ABS and traction control. Big part of my motivation is the engine sound, and I want a fun bike. Power less so. I plan to use it for short trips, learn to wheelie, etc. Suggestions?
MGL if it’s your first bike the KTM is too much bike for you. You don’t need it at all. Hell some would call the MT07 a stretch. Both bikes make a lot of power, but the KTM is a little more “refined” hydraulic lines vs traditional, expensive metals like aluminum and titanium, but as your first bike you won’t know that it’s special or unique. I say, say yourself the money and buy a MT07. If you like it and a naked bike (not for everyone) then go ride the 790.
It's not the first bike. I had Bandit 600, BWM F650GS, and now loaning R1200GS. Turns out here in Germany I can't (legally) go anywhere off road to do adventure riding, so I want to switch to something smaller and more fun on the street. I'm thinking MT-07 is perfect cheap and fun bike - I'm just worries I will quickly regret not getting something better equipped.
I think I will take your advice. But first I will testdrive both ...and maybe also some supermoto :)
MGL so I’ve been playing around with the idea of a Supermoto as well. Really interests me. Not a lot of nature near Berlin to go ride off-road, so I’m in the same boat as you.
I'm more to the south - Ulm. Quite nice nature around, lots of forests, but I swear every little path and road off asphalt has sign forbidding motorcycles. Even most roads between fields. It's crazy. Probably the closest place to really use adventure bike is Italy or Poland/Czech. We have lots of amazing twisty roads though.
One BAD thing abou Yamahas FZ / MT 07-09 is the start swich. This one is of a very stupid design. A slider - not a button. These sliders get worn out - develope more friction and do not return propperly back - which burns the start relay..... Not a very seldom event on these bikes. Yamaha stinged on an extra button, and mede life harder for some - incl me. I had to wait for 2 weeks to get that shit fixed.
The reason why Yamaha spend little time on the exhaust, for one they do just enough to get it through emissions, secondly Yamaha know that most of the owners will swap it out for an aftermarket exhaust anyway.
They have to spend a lot of time on the exhaust, but it’s only to pass emissions while remaining cheap to produce. Most OEMs know people will replace the exhaust but, that’s not much of their concern unless they can brand a Yoshimura exhaust for Yamaha or something like that
15 20 hp more? Yr lucky if you get 10.. I got an sc s1 on mine with ecu flash..
Hi there ! Could you tell us something about fuel consumption fot this bike?
Ice King it depends on how aggressive you are with the throttle. If you are just cruising you can easily hit 300km from a full tank of gas, if you are in mountain attack mode it’s more like 200km from a tank.
Thanks for the info and such a quick reply :-) Btw, i have in plan to purchas that model, but im also intersted in Honda Cb650F ( Hornet ), and i dont know what to do :'(
Ice King I think both bikes are solid choices from both wonderful brands. I think at the end of the day, choose the one that looks best in your mind. Everything else will be pretty equal.
Yeah, i pretty much share your opinion, and I must confest that im more of a Yamaha fan :-) Thanks for the tips and your time ! Cheers bro :-)

If you know anyone who wants to translate, point them to this!!
How is the throttle response and the clutch and transmission shifting and the braking?
Solid question, the throttle response in my mind can be broken into two sections. The actual throttle body on the bars has some slack in it, which should be able to be fixed with an aftermarket fix (something that will be done this season). As for the throttle response through the engine, it is instant. It is a very torquey engine, especially between 2000 to 4500. As for shifting, I've had no issues what so ever. As for braking, the front brake has given me some issues but I think a pair of aftermarket cables will fix it right up!
Berlin Biker Thank you for the feedback.
Glad to help!
how tall are you?I'm also considering this as my first bike not sure if it fits well for a 6'3 guy
Oh wow, 6’3 you might be a bit big for it honestly. I’m 5’9 and I feel like it’s the perfect size. Flat footed at stops, no issue. You could definitely add a taller seat and some handlebar risers to the bike, but go sit on it in a dealership. You will know right away if it’s too small.
1800ks in three months!!! Shit I'd done 4900ks in 9 days on my first Bike and that's all after work and weekends.. Get out there my son !!!
544ks a day?!?! How did you do that? To be honest, when I got insurance for my bike I thought I would ride 10k a year... no where near that.
one long weekend and hours and hours after work.. I've got mountains about an hour from home so plenty of incentive..Hahahaha I was so keen i would go out come home for an hour and be out again.. From what I know of the MT07 you're not going to get anywhere near 20kp from those upgrades, forget the flash and put yur euros into the full Acro system and a PC5 which you can skip dyno with and download and set the full Acro map for free.. That really is as powerful as it's going to get. Which is extremely powerful for the Bike it is.. If you find the front end soft I would suggest the Matris F15 internal replacement system, pull out, drop in. I have one in an MT03 660 and the difference is untrue and only 500 Euros, fully adjustable comp, reb, and damp.. Have fun man, be safe ;)
Getting my first bike (MT07) next year, and I'm willing to bet I'm gonna do 2000km within the first week, I also have curvy roads, mountains and other back roads about 45 minutes away. Can't wait!
I honestly am shocked I was not able to cover more distance, but between shitty weather and traveling a lot for work it was pretty hard!
id f you want a nice bike, the z1000 looks f*** mean as hell
For some reason, the Kawasakis don't do much for me.
1800kms in 3months of ownership? LMAO i have 2200kms in 1month
That’s a cool story. 😎
Matte black= bat bike

Should I get 07 2017 or 2018?
Depends on your budget, save a grand and pick up an 07.
