The Hard Rock Hotel used to cater to a young crowd interested in nice rooms, good dining and pool experience. The casino and other venues in the resort were most of the time quiet. Virgin changed the place and the same crowd came back. It seems even better than the Hard Rock with nicer dining options.
I think it's because you have to hire a ride to the strip, downtown, more off strip properties. It's not walkable at night, especially. The property itself is a gem. It's amazing...but a little bit lonely. This was my view of it lately in my daytime visit.
Glad you made it to Virgin! Just returned from my 8th visit there after years of being a Hard Rock patron. My visits are short, so I rarely get bored. Your review, both pros and cons are spot on. Sorry to see Money Baby’s closed now… hope something opens that space before football season.
Virgin mainly suffers from a "too many cooks in the kitchen" sort of approach: where when you really take a look at who's running and managing all the components of this property, it's a bit all over the place. And I feel that patchwork vibe explains why some parts of the property are full of life while others aren't. Otherwise, I have a great deal of respect for them for all they accomplished. It really does look beautiful as I'm a sucker for Southwestern themes and decor and Elias Beach Club is actually one of my favorite day clubs in Vegas now. =) I have to say I'm surprised you didn't dock points for its location. I'm glad you didn't obviously, but considering some of the worst crime in all of Vegas is concentrated where Virgin stands and knowing some of your previous reviews on places you shouldn't walk outside of after night, I just found it interesting you didn't touch on that with this one. Again, I feel resorts should be evaluated on what they are and what they have to offer, not location, and am glad you did that with this one. =) Can't wait to see where you go now that your heroic Vegas trip is over! =D
In your opinion, would it be safe to walk from Virgin Hotel to Club Wyndham Grand Desert (10 min walk according to google maps) at like 8/9pm? It would be with my spouse and 2 small kids with our luggage since we're checking out and in of those hotels I previous named.

I never felt unsafe doing so, but it's just a reflection on personal experience and philosophy. It's just kind of mind over matter. The only reason I brought it up here is because James mentioned crime and "seedy elements" in his original MGM Grand review as well as a recent STRAT review. I know crime and immediate surroundings are a concern to him. And the fact is statistically in 2019, East Harmon Avenue and Paradise Road received the second most calls to police (1,283) of ANY part of Vegas for various types of crime (only McCarran International Airport received more). So I just found it interesting it didn't cross his mind in the review was all.

To pay with Hilton points Virgin is 52K points on a Sunday I chose, which is more than the Conrad. That's ~$200 in points value while cash price is $141. Add in $45 resort fee and away from the Strip, and this is a permanent nogo for me. I was tempted when they had just opened and advertised no extort fee.
@@pat3464 Yet all of the other Virgin properties don't charge the fee, yet have a nightly Comped GM's Cocktail Hour, with food. Oddly, this property, does none of that?
@@bodyloverz30 I stopped by there in Marck and counted 17 people in the whole place gambling. They had 3 blackjack tables, 1 craps, and 1 roulette all $25+ minimums. I don't see them being around long.

Excellent review. Property looks great but it’s like it has no overall center. I don’t mean a theme, just no real soul or vibe. Looks very corporate; as if they are only going through the motions. Real shame as I had this down as a possible future stay. They are going to have to do better if they plan on getting people away from the strip hotels. Could hardly believe that was a weekend crowd. Hopefully they will get it together. One thing for sure, you have your RUclips game together! Great job James!

Definitely have to check out Kassi's when we come on our next trip. Love the room, but not sure I want to stay off the strip. We're there for 6 days and I prefer to stay in the middle of the strip. Great hotel though. Love the renovations!

I was there in April and enjoyed my stay. I appreciated the dining options though I wish they had been open later into the evening. Also, with plenty of space available on the premises I would have appreciated an 18+ pool. The grounds were well kept. I would definitely stay again, especially if there was an event that interested me on site. We spent quite of bit of money taking Lyfts to the strip, that was probably the only downfall. I wanted to stay here because I have been to the Virgin Hotel in Chicago and that was EXCEPTIONAL.

I’m headed to Vegas Friday and sure to hit some sky bars, Circa, Tropicana, and staying central at the Bellagio. What is next? Couple weeks of straight sleep then beach vibes? ☀️🌴
Great review of this prop. We saw this from our window at the Elara and will definitely stay here. We stayed at the Elara during peak summer time and it was a shitshow. I have to think this Virgin prop would be a bit better further into the future, but who knows. Thank you for this review as we can see ourselves there possibly this year.

Thank you for ALL the LV reports. Looking forward to the "How much did it Cost" at Virgin. Keep in mind, most people who come to Vegas don't spend their time exclusively on property like you do. We explore. You mention in many reviews it would only take 2 days to get bored at some properties. We'd last longer because we'd go off site.
I personally love going off-site and adventuring whenever I'm staying anywhere in Vegas, but I do completely get and appreciate why James usually only goes to on-site restaurants and lounges. His approach just provides the most comprehensive and authentic look into what a place has to offer. It's part of the reason why he's one of the best reviewers overall and THE best Vegas-related reviewer (I know he's a world travel RUclipsr, not just Vegas, but I say that because he mops the floor with everyone else in terms of how comprehensive and authentic his Vegas-related reviews are whereas most others are style but no substance) on RUclips. =) My only major criticism of Coolist is, in my opinion, a glaring inconsistency in his own grading rubric as especially reflected in location. Outside of that and some of his more recent reviews feeling a bit more hurried, he's EASILY still the best in my opinion. =)

4455 Paradise Road will always be HARD ROCK CAFE with its massive Gibson Guitars; one RESTORED by Neon Museum AVN EXPO & AWARDS returns to Paradise Road in January 2025. HARD ROCK CAFE was PERFECT at this location with The Joint being the venue for many events. Virgin Hotels is: Desert lifestyle and Drag Queens I didn't KNOW Hard Rock Cafe THAT WELL but it definitely HAD more personality and pulse than Virgin Hotels THEN AGAIN it's prolly because I need to make NEW memories at Virgin Hotels with Hard Rock building their new hotel in Mirage former space It's just weird yet essential for growth and evolution
I love Olives. I was sad that it left Bellagio, but so happy it popped up inside Virgin. Life is Fresh is one of my favorite cocktails, and u nailed it with the beef carpaccio! (So good, but very filling).
Couldn't agree more. If I am coming to Vegas for a fight night this is the best hotel to recharge at but if I'm with a bunch of friends nah, their just isn't much to do on property. BUT you did fail to mention one really badass thing this hotel does offer. And that's free valet. Also when they first opened they had NO RESORT FEE which was a huge plus but alas that didn't stay. But yea as a hotel it's awesome, as a resort it's just okay.
James, if I'm remembering correctly from a while ago, you were anti-steakhouse reviews because they're sort of all the same business dinner menus. Now all I'm seeing is steakhouse after steakhouse! +1 vote from me to bring back the more unique coolist spots when possible. Enjoying the content either way - safe travels!
Used to enjoy looking at the memorabilia at the Hard Rock. Also enjoyed Lucky Sevens restaurant. Visited recently, hotel was quiet didn’t need to go back.
I hated the virgin hotel…it was lifeless, soulless……when it was the hard rock it had a pulse, it always felt alive…. I used to live right next door, and would walk to the the hard rock almost everyday…. Talked to so many celebrities there… it’s a shame what they did do it…. Just my opinion
Really liked the room, especially the headboard, and loved the black evening attire! Too bad about the casino being dead, not fun without a bunch of people.
All that food looks scrumptious. I like your wardrobe too, very apropos to be dressed well when critiquing, unlike so many other channels with team jersey /ball cap wearing reviewers. 😉
Thank you for the review. I usually stay at one of the MGM hotels. But I'm kinda of done with them now. My wife and I are older. But we like the energy of the younger generation. Every time I look in the mirror I say to myself where did this old guy come from
You hit the nail on the head ... potential. They have most if not all the pieces for a top 5 hotel here, it just seems like their marketing department sucks and they really didn't give it the big intro to Vegas it deserved as a new hotel. Because it pretty much is ... Hard Rock was a totally different hotel and theme, Virgin is refreshing and tropical but its just missing the vibe. Not sure if they are charging resort fees but if so, that needs to be number 1 on the hit list.
I stopped by the Virgin in April of this year, and couldn't agree more with your review. The whole place was empty... There were literally more floor employees than gamblers.

Great review, dude! I like what Virgin did to the property, the refresh on the entire place is awesome. The Hard Rock had seen it's day, a great place to stay and party in the old days. But the hotel is tits now
somethings missing? What's missing is a night club with live music (not a live DJ) It has a lawn event and the theater you should go back when thirds eye blind is on august 12th or papa roach. I think that is what is missing a all star night club and or something like the piano bar but bigger. There should be a roof top dinner and bar. when it comes to gambling they need to install more video poker and keno machines really fill in the space. They just need to have a free shuttle to the strip like the trump tower or vouchers for taxi/uber lyft service. Let it run from noon to midnight take guest to the miracle mile shops drop off pick up and then come back.
So do they not have a nightclub or lounge scene here? I know they still have concerts there. I am just wondering what the main draw would be to stay there now as an off strip resort. The Palms has some great nightlife and the Strat is a value hotel with a high profile restaurant and observation deck/rollercoaster. It seems like a place like this will need to establish some sort of an identity in order to succeed being isolated and off strip. Especially if it costs about as much as a strip resort. Especially once the newness wears off.
Another great video! I don't know that I'd stay there, I like Wynn/Encore too much, but your video certainly got me curious about checking out One Steakhouse (I did love the Morton's in Minneapolis). While I don't know that I'd stay at Virigin in Las Vegas, I've been wanting to take a weekend trip to Chicago and have been looking at the Virgin Hotel there as the place to stay. Seeing that this place is right next to Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas alone could motivate me to stay here for a few days.

Did you forget to mention The Theater and 24 Oxford? They offer great live entertainment. Also, Pizza Forte has some awesome pizza.

Thank you for the review. I usually stay at one of the MGM hotels. But I'm kinda of done with them now. My wife and I are older. But we like the energy of the younger generation. Every time I look in the mirror I say to myself where did this old guy come from

I walked in and did a quick walk around on the casino floor, but nothing made me want to stay here, so I walked right out.
You hit the nail on the head ... potential. They have most if not all the pieces for a top 5 hotel here, it just seems like their marketing department sucks and they really didn't give it the big intro to Vegas it deserved as a new hotel. Because it pretty much is ... Hard Rock was a totally different hotel and theme, Virgin is refreshing and tropical but its just missing the vibe. Not sure if they are charging resort fees but if so, that needs to be number 1 on the hit list.
When they first opened they didn't charge resort fees and always bragged about it. Now they charge resort fees like everywhere else
I stopped by the Virgin in April of this year, and couldn't agree more with your review. The whole place was empty... There were literally more floor employees than gamblers.

Great review, dude! I like what Virgin did to the property, the refresh on the entire place is awesome. The Hard Rock had seen it's day, a great place to stay and party in the old days. But the hotel is tits now
somethings missing? What's missing is a night club with live music (not a live DJ) It has a lawn event and the theater you should go back when thirds eye blind is on august 12th or papa roach. I think that is what is missing a all star night club and or something like the piano bar but bigger. There should be a roof top dinner and bar. when it comes to gambling they need to install more video poker and keno machines really fill in the space. They just need to have a free shuttle to the strip like the trump tower or vouchers for taxi/uber lyft service. Let it run from noon to midnight take guest to the miracle mile shops drop off pick up and then come back.

They need to hire more check in staff for 24 hour coverage. Waiting 20-30 minutes is ridiculous.

So do they not have a nightclub or lounge scene here? I know they still have concerts there. I am just wondering what the main draw would be to stay there now as an off strip resort. The Palms has some great nightlife and the Strat is a value hotel with a high profile restaurant and observation deck/rollercoaster.
It seems like a place like this will need to establish some sort of an identity in order to succeed being isolated and off strip. Especially if it costs about as much as a strip resort. Especially once the newness wears off.

I don't know that I'd stay there, I like Wynn/Encore too much, but your video certainly got me curious about checking out One Steakhouse (I did love the Morton's in Minneapolis).
While I don't know that I'd stay at Virigin in Las Vegas, I've been wanting to take a weekend trip to Chicago and have been looking at the Virgin Hotel there as the place to stay.
And re: Todd English, any plans in the future to visit his new boutique hotel in Vegas?
