It features circus and trapeze acts, as well as carnival games, at its Carnival Midway. The resort also includes the Adventuredome, an indoor amusement park. Your too critical, what do you expect the Waldorf Astoria? How clean are London hotels? You seem to want to be negative. Probably get more views that way😮
As someone who has worked in housekeeping, this is 100% a management/staffing issue. The only way to even approach fixing this is to hire more on-site handymen and maybe double the housekeeping staff. In my experience, hotels are more worried about having more "clean" rooms on hand for last-minute reservations than a good quality clean for guests who have booked in advance. Not only that, but i would assume they're cheaping out on laundry services and cleaning products. It's really sad to see such a fun and interesting concept for a hotel and staple of the city fall into disrepair :(
Yeah, the theme park and upstairs carnival area looked like fun :) would be great for those of us who don't like to gamble.
Vegas native here! It's Phil Ruffin, the owner of the property. He's a glorified slumlord. He's also the owner of Treasure Island and that property isn't exactly high-class even if relatively well maintained.. Plus he owns 50% of Trump tower which... I mean... Trump tower... Phil bought the property in 2020 and has done almost nothing since. However, Adventuredome has been cleaned up and is apparently far better than before. Before that MGM Grand owned it since 2005 and planned a renovation until the recession hit, then kind of just abandoned the place. And before that Bill Bennett and William Pennington owned it since 1983 and were responsible for it's massive expansion from just a small casino to a hotel, adventure park, and bigger attractions.
Seriously. This has all the hallmarks of idiot boomer MBA types who have no mode of operation besides "race to the bottom." Their greed is unbridled and unsustainable.
?? Two words folks... money laundering, (doesn't matter if the place is empty and crumbling down, because the owners declare millions of dollars every year in guest revenue and overhead expenses.)
@@RedRoseSeptember22 My husband and I don't like to gamble, the upstairs is a blast. At least we enjoyed it.
I’m a hotel guy and what caught my eye was not one cleaner anywhere. No people polishing. Good hotels have cleaning staff everywhere. 👀 no matter the time of day, I might add………
I have an answer. They are profit-taking. Hire as few people as possible and reap the windfall!
Yup.
I noticed that IMMEDIATELY. Never have I seen a nice Hotel that didn't have the cleaners doing something in the hallway.
I spent ten years in hospitality, and so much of this could be addressed with just having enough housekeeping and engineering on staff. Things that are obviously very dirty not getting cleaned (despite maybe taking a minute to do it) suggests that the hotel staff have just given up. Maybe the renovation that they announced in July of last year led them to telling staff not to worry about it, but that's a terrible route to go if you want any return business.
Definitely a housekeeping problem! Executive Housekeeper needs to be either retrained or replaced.
This is like watching an episode of Gordon Ramsey's Hotel Hell, but like 1000% more polite.
True
We stayed in Circus Circus about 15 or so years ago. Even then, it wasn't high end --- but it was kept clean.
Considering how high the resort fees have gotten, there is just no excuse.
I think the smell you noticed was stale cigarette smoke. Many of the "old school" Vegas casinos are absolutely infused with it. I'm not sure they can get rid of it, short of tearing out the actual walls.
What about if they ran one of those ozone machines in it?
@@royjonzejr I dunno. Lots of volume in those old places, obviously it would have to be evacuated while the device was running.
@@royjonzejr ozone machines only deodorize the air, it doesn't penetrate surfaces. It can't do anything for deeply embedded sources of odor.
Some of those cigarettes were probably smoked by Frank Sinatra.
How much would it cost to run a Stanley Steamer over all the carpets?
If the carpet was replaced, building properly scrubbed down and washed, and just some light remodel work to freshen it up while keeping the theme and vibe then they could just remarket it as a "5 Nights at Freddy's" 'haunted' casino for October.
O yea, carpet is definiteltly a huge problem from what i can see, all the germs, allergen, and illness gets trapped inside carpets, and if not maintained and cleaned frequently, u end up suffering from it, visually and ill wise.
That's the problem of many big hotels these days - it's just hardly feasible to invest into refurbishment which costs absolutely huge money. Also the staff. Temporary contractors are very expensive, and on the other hand the in-house maintenance team is usually very small and on close to minimum wage - they can't be expected to bother too much.
Often it's easier and cheaper to build a brand new hotel than refurbishing an old one.
They used to turn the Adventuredome into the Fright Dome on Halloween for a good while.
Nah, I say no cleaning whatsoever, still remarket it, but at the door, hand guests a black light.
Who woulda thought of yet another circus game that’s original and off the midway!
Yeah, that place is def haunted
They did have a FNAF walkthrough in October 2016
I work in an law firm dealing with asbestos. Had someone call in and state that their wife worked for circus circus and died of lung cancer. Not a smoker, nor in any of the usual workplaces you pick it up. But he said she worked there for YEARS and had to sign a waiver being made aware they were removing asbestos but were not warned they needed to wear masks. Awful
the hotel is 100% responsible for taking that woman's life. absolutely unacceptable!!
@laur4620 they can't be responsible if they had her sign a waiver. Signing those is pretty much signing away your life
@@christopherswanson1628 i think there's something to be said for informed consent! somewhere, hopefully, that waiver left wiggle room for those who weren't properly educated...
I'd claim that she was vulnerable when she signed it or in a vulnerable state such as depression, anxiety, anything that could make her vulnerable and unable to make an informed decision at that specific time such as a limited capacity which would make the signed waiver redundant ... asbestos lung cancer is a mesothelioma. There are loop holes in everything. All risks should be made clear with health and safety advice issued both verbally and in written form. The company should have sealed off specific areas to try to contain as much air borne asbestos as possible when working with it and staff should not be allowed into sealed areas.
@@christopherswanson1628 signing waivers doesn't really exempt a entity from liability. It makes it difficult, but the establishment/individual is still responsible for safe practices.
For example a Zoo. Everyone knows there are dangerous animals. It's the zoo's responsibility to keep its staff/guess safe. If someone breaks in or surpasses the safety protocols put out in place. The individual is responsible for any damages. However if the guest or staff is hurt in any way that could be preventable then the Zoo can be held liable. The same concept applies here.
If you sign the waiver then the establishment is responsible for your safety by providing the proper measures for preventive harm. Especially if it's stated you are in a dangerous area.
You sir... Had me at the simple mention of bed bug's lol. I will never ever set foot in that tourist trap. Also, if you took luminol and a black light to those rooms, it would probably be brighter than the actual casino...
Hysterical. What a mental image.
I need to go take a shower after watching you stay at Circus Circus. Thank you for warning us! Eww gross!
Hahahaha. Last place I would EVER stay at. Looks absolutely disgusting, including that breakfast buffet!
$35 for that breakfast buffet is borderline criminal.

That made me LOL
Also I think the mozzarella was boiled eggs
Nope. Looked exactly like little mozzarella balls. @@mereyeahmomo3086
yeah its corned beef hash, and the Excalibur buffet which is actually good is only $28
CANNED corn beef hash at that. I'd recognize it anywhere. Personally I love the stuff but only when I get it for like 2 bucks at the grocery store, not for 35 big ones.
probably the closest you would come to staying in a fallout new vegas hotel in real life
I was getting those vibes the entire video 😭
Ring a ding ding, baby.
I'm glad someone said it!
Exactly what it reminded me of! 😅
My life is like a video game so I appreciate that you put it into terms I could understand
Fear and Loathing taught me all I needed to know about this casino hotel lol.
You’re very brave, Tim. I’d be running away as fast as I could. The room looks filthy…I wouldn’t stay. Run, Tim, run! Finally, the entire buffet looks inedible.
I wouldn't be surprised if people got food poisoning from it!
This place needs a PROPER revitalization. This means a huge clean and repair overhaul while KEEPING all the classic fixtures and elements. Replace linens, carpets, repair fixtures and plumbing etc., and of course, repaint/wallpaper the halls and rooms but keep the statues and fixed elements. So much potential here for seasonal activities! Imagine the carnival fun for summer or the spooky atmosphere they could implement for Halloween.
Nah! When the MBAs have sucked everything out of the hotel they can, they'll demolish it and sell the land to Chinese developers for a billion 💰! Then, a new elaborate megahotel, casino, and entertainment complex that nickels and dimes guests for everything including toilet paper will rise in its place. Wo Phat would be proud.
Right? Also how magical it could be during Christmas? Just wow.
So true! If they could do a good overhaul, it would be an amazing holiday experience and could double their revenues. Definitely keep the circus part, but it's big enough to add holiday themes seasonally. It has endless potential! It would cost tons of money for sure, but it would earn tons of money in return. It's a big wonderful place!
I very much agree with you. However I wonder if most of the carpets could be good as new with a steam cleaning. You just know they would never find carpeting as cool as this in modern times.
Las Vegas is known for blowing up thier old buildings. This place won't be here much longer.
Circus Circus was the first hotel I ever stayed in. I'm 67 and was around 13 or 14 when I went with my best friend's family to Las Vegas. It was the ONLY hotel in Vegas that had any activities for children besides a pool. The circus acts over the casino floor were fun. The arcade games were fun and free. I actually got to see Elvis on that trip. He didn't impress me as much as the water pistol shooting into the clown's mouth arcade game did. (I was a Beatles fan).😊 It's sad that it has become so run down. Perhaps they should implode it and build another family/kid friendly hotel in it's place. Vegas tried for a while to induce families to visit, but has gone back to adult only themes. It's not really a kid friendly place but there should be one hotel where kids can play too.
Great story! Do you remember its $3.99 buffet? It's a shame that it has gone down hill & can you believe
that it's $200. a night, now?
I'm 47 and my parents would take us on trips here back in the 80s and early 90s. I still do very much remember that water pistol game where you shoot into the clown's mouth!
@@rongendron8705 And the breakfast buffet is $35.00 with NO hashbrowns!
Yeah we never did Vegas, but when we did Reno many years ago, one of the notable things was the bargain buffets and meals that could always be easily found, we ate cheap the whole trip and the food was decent... surprised me the breakfast buffet would be $35, that's no bargain.
Yeah I’ve been going there for 40 years. My dad would stay there because of what you said, it was “family friendly”.
Also… if you don’t stay at the Circus Circus Motor Lodge, then you stayed at the “fancy” part.
What always strikes me is the ultra thick carpet and other fabrics and materials that have been soaking in the “flavor” of millions of people over many decades. And remember how much around the clock smoke and buffet and kids smells… you can actually taste it. Compare it to modern places (and everywhere I stay overseas) who use very little carpeting or textiles that will hold odors. My favorite places in SE Asia make great use of finished concrete for floors, minimalist bedding where they just keep it cleaned and bleached and places are really cheap, sterile feeling that i find comfortable. It’s really spoiled me. Totally the opposite of a 80 year old US casino. 555
I get 'The Shining'- vibes too there.
Redrum
Yeah, I was thinking to myself that I'd rather stay at the Overlook Hotel! If I wanted to see a resort with Old Vegas vibes, I would probably just go to the Flamingo. This is a shame - I can't help but wonder why Circus, Circus was allowed to get so sketchy in the first place.
This brought back horrible memories of my time in an MLM and the conference took place here. I also got major food poisoning after eating shrimp pasta in the dining restaurant.
Wow your decision making sounds impressively bad lol. Try flipping a coin for a while. At least on average you’ll make the right choice half the time
As a building and electrical contractor from the UK , you could spend £20 million on Circus Circus and you’d see a very minimal improvement, It looks soulless, and unloved, I’d also say it operates with 25% of the staff needed to keep it clean and maintained it’s a huge property, great show Tim
Good point
As a hairdresser I agree.
As a fruit and veg stall holder, I also agree
As a guy who watches RUclips videos all day. I agree
I remember the James Bond movie Diamonds Are Forever 1971. It stills looks much like it did in the movie.
I worked at Circus Circus in the Midway when it opened…it was beautiful, and classy and unique. There was no hotel at the time. The trapeze artists flew over the casino in the center (with a net of course). It breaks my heart to see it now…pretty much most of Las Vegas..my home town…has been ruined.
I’m so grateful that I experienced what it was in the past.😥

Minor technicality, but the movie Casino (and the book, "Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas," from which it was adapted) was actually based on the Stardust hotel, which was located near Circus Circus prior to its implosion in 2006. Circus Circus was, however, used extensively in the James Bond film "Diamonds are Forever" in addition to "Fear and Loathing." - Cheers
The stuff you thought were grits, was actually corned beef hash (and unfortunately not made from scratch but from a tin). You've probably had corned beef before and the hash part are the lil cubes of potato (well cubes when they are from a tin). Grits are white and grainy (are made from hominy). Great video!
@karlwithak. That is 100% not grits he was eating its corned beef hash. If made at home it is corned beef and potatoes leftover from the day before, chopped up and refried.
Hash in the US usually refers to a style of preparing breakfast potatoes, or a type of drugs I'm sure you're familiar with.
In the US grits are usually a type of corn porridge made from dried and corsely ground white corn.
@karlwithak ...I hope the content you provide is more beneficial than your reply...LOL! Keep on keeping on tho!

My husband has been to Vegas before, but I never have. When I started planning our trip there next spring, I asked him if he had a preference of hotel. He said he didn't care which one we stayed at, as long as it wasn't Circus Circus. That sparked my curiosity, and now I've found your video. You've made it very clear why CC was the only one he absolutely didn't want to patronize.
The Tropicana is also on its way out (about to be torn down) so I'd probably add that to the list. Sad, because it was the first Las Vegas hotel I ever stayed at.
We stayed at The Strat a few weeks ago, nice hotel. But if I could stay at any hotel it would be Caesars Palace it's beautiful.
Tacos for breakfast? Erm,any McDonald's anywhere close by? 😂😂😂😂
I had heard not to go to CC as well. Everything has been easy enough to find or get help with. The only issue I have had a hard time with is finding out about the brothels. Well at least getting reviews and general info. Ask your husband if he has any information, hints, tips, recommendations or the brothels.
Circus Circus has a certain "charm" that *no other Las Vegas hotel has.* I would cry if Circus Circus was ever torn down.
Fun fact, those mattress covers are dual use. some people use them to keep bedbugs off of mattresses but usually they are used to CONTAIN them so a compromised mattress can still be used... they do tear quite easily though...

I stayed at Circus Circus with my parents about 25 years ago. At the time, the rooms were basic but clean & only cost $40USD a night. I LOVED the children's arcade, the teddy bears you could win were high quality (and easy to win, no scams). I just passed one of the teddy bears I kept onto my 3yo daughter. Very happy memories. It was always one of the cheapest & most basic hotels on the strip, but for families it was ideal & it's so sad they haven't kept up with the cleanliness & hygiene of the place.
Vegas has really changed in 20 years. Nothing is “cheap” anymore and the cheaper options are just gritty and slimy. While all the money has gone to the high end. It used to be such a cheap and interesting to visit, now it’s definitely not.
It's sad to see such historical buildings go improperly cared for. I hope Circus Circus can get restored to a much better glory; I would love to see this place recreated in VRChat, GMod, or in a first-person simulator of what this place would've looked like in its prime.
gmod lol
I'd love that in GMod. My computer can't run VRChat so only way I'd be able to see it is in GMod. I still play from time to time just to enjoy the old liminal feel of the og maps.
The thing I noticed was how much of this looked familiar. After playing Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach I can tell they have been inspired a lot by Circus Circus.
Layout-wise, it's pretty much unchanged since the 80s. A few stylistic changes were done, and they took out all the classic arcade games, but the carousel bar, certain skill games - all of it is unchanged. The Adventuredome was a parking lot, and down the road through the middle there was a post office branch at the back, almost where it met Industrial.
It was amazing back in the day. Busy shoulder to shoulder food vendors on every corner families migrating about. Lol checkin looks the same lol
I used to live in Las Vegas. Circus Circus was my #1 place to tell everyone not to go to. We went in there once just to check it out. This would've been 2009 or 2010. Everything was dirty. You were lucky if the escalators were working. It's a real shame. This place has so much potential if love and care went into it. I work in a hotel now and this mess at the Circus Circus makes me want to vomit.
It was clean until the early 2000's.
The Manor needs to be demolished.

Love watching your channel. I don't travel any longer, but feel like I do with your videos. ❤
Almost 20 years ago we went there with our preschooler. She loved the amusement park and the circus, And also the shops. Everything was so nice. Several years later my husband was there on business and I accompanied him. I decided to do every free thing on the strip. I think the circus was my favorite because it brought back so many wonderful memories.
The "grits" was actually "hash" - corned beef and potatoes (which looked pretty good). If they had grits it would have been with the oatmeal, which I didn't see. On another note, my first of over 40 trips to Vegas was Circus Circus in the late 90's and it was a dump back then. Because of that experience, that was the first and last time a travel agent was used to put a package together for myself. Bless the Internet for being able to book everything on your own.
Nice, I went immediately to the comments to see if anyone addressed the fact that he was not eating grits. As southerners we were practically yelling at the screen "those aren't grits" LOL.
It’s why we forgive William Shatner for just about everything: because of his Priceline ads.
I'm so glad someone cleared up the corned beef hash vs grits issue! South Carolina here, laughing at poor Tim's expense. I hope he gets a chance to eat real Southern food at a good restaurant sometime. He could stay in Charleston or Savannah at a luxury hotel.
@@barbarajeffries I am a foodie from the northeast and also travel to the "south" often, so I appreciate a plate of proper grits (with cheese, please). I remember going to Circus Circus in the mid 80s. It was really nice and the breakfast buffet was awesome . Everything so fresh and delicious.
The Amusement park is probably the nicest part of the property. Some rare ride models and two really good roller coasters.
The Adventuredome deserves so much better than being attached to Circus Circus. It's light and airy and shiny compared to the main hotel's survival horror theme
I agree it's also about 30 years newer than the rest of circus circus.
Unless it's raining. There was leaks everywhere and a lot of the ride were shut down due to the rain and large puddles from leaks.
The pink glass made everything look off and strained my eyes
I travel for a living and within 2 minutes of walking into a hotel I can tell you all about the management of the place. Management is everything in the hotel industry; A cheesy hotel with good management will be a good place to stay but a bad management team in a jewel of a hotel can and will turn your stay into a nightmare....
Who needs the Backrooms when you have Circus Circus?
Thanks for taking it for the team! (:
I LOVE hotels. I even work at one as a housekeeper. I'm very good at my job and I love doing it. But this hotel makes me very sad. It's such a historic place but they left it to dilapidate for too long. I see not a single cleaner anywhere in this video, either. No housekeeping staff, no custodians, no janitors, no one. Which is depressing because I'm sure that if they had a dedicated and complete staff keeping the place clean and pleasant to be at, this place would be the most enjoyable novelty hotel on the strip!
Its almost like they took all of blackpool and put it under one roof. The circus, the arcades, the dirty hotels , the theme park and water park. Boarded up areas, empty creepy spaces. The feeling of being stuck in a strange time in history with some modern things thrown in.

I've lived in Nevada since 1996 - I have been in that place ONE time, and that was only for long enough to see the Adventure Dome. Your video showing the filth and decay of the place is just insurance that I wouldn't consider staying there overnight in this lifetime. Within the last year it was also named in a news story about Las Vegas hotels with bedbugs. If they can't even vacuum the floors, what makes anyone think they are actively trying to prevent bedbugs?
It is pretty amazing that it is still open. My guess is they will continue to operate it without updating it until it starts losing money and then close and demolish it. They would probably have to put more money into it to update it than just starting from scratch at this point.
It's likely a gamble by the owners on whether operation versus selling offers more. The strip basically stopped expanding once it hit circus circus so the offers may have not come as expected. Consolidation has meant it is unlikely that there will ever be more expansion, the focus is on the big money in the middle.
Theme park buffets circus fun faor amazing
@@ctgottapee9020fontainebleau may change that. it’s huge and could draw people up strip a little more. having one more mega resort would probably make people more willing to walk all the way up there
I think there's a point of no return. The owners will keep it open doing the minimum to maintain as long as it's profitable. It would be nice if they re-did it all keeping the theme and attractions people love, but that's expensive. They'd have to decide if keeping it family friendly and affordable is going to be cost effective in the long run. I think you're right about starting from scratch, but the question is, will it go delux or become something entirely different?
I like how they went for a “wedding chapel” vibe and ended up with the waiting room at the local abattoir…
I came upon this video as part of my daily doomscrolling. You did not disappoint. This place is like Chuck-E-Cheese on steroids. I think the filth goes with the circus theme. It's nice to be able to watch this from the comfort of my immaculately clean home with no loud music blaring.
I'm 65 yrs old and the Circus Circus was pretty cool back in the late 60's. It was bright, happy and quite an an adventure when you were a little kid from San Diego. My parents loved it, this just made me sad.
Going around that entire hotel with one of those carpet cleaning machines would go such a long way. It definitely has potential to be a good hotel.
Someone needs to pressure wash the entire building 💀
Honestly, they probably best to ditching most of the carpet all together. but some new carpet or hardwood replacement would go a long way.
@@jyoats7959 Hardwood would be best, but I doubt they would have the budget to do the whole building.
Yeah I was thinking that. The vibe I got was 'nobody cares'. Considering the history of the place it has genuine potential to lean into the 60's glitz of the place, if it was cleaned up.
Also imagine some air fresheners or new lighting so it doesn’t look so dim
Ya wow!..... I remember CLEARLY being in the military in the mid-80's and would LOOOOVE riding my motorcycle to the strip and stopping at the Circus Circus and eating at their Buffett. This is what I clearly remember.... The prices of the Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner has changed a bit. I remember standing in front of the price poster of the meals, here's what I remember;
All you can eat --
Breakfast - $1.49
Lunch - $2.49
Dinner - $3.49
Those prices were CHEAP even way back then!
Just know, these casino's Buffett's can focus on one of two things, "Quantity" OR "Quality" ..... Circus Circus NEVER had ANY focus on Quality!!!..... The food "looked" good but all tasted like cardboard and just plain YUK! But being in the military, we ate about anything.
No wonder the last war we won decisively was World War II if this is what we are feeding our soldiers.
There's something about heaps of food being left uncovered that gives me the willies. And you are very brave to walk around in flipflops lol Even in a regular street restaurant you'll see the staff polishing and cleaning... where is everybody?
Great review! What makes Vegas interesting is that it has a mixture of five star properties and also some dumpy properties. If you can put up with it, you can save a lot of money at the lower end properties. Next-door to Circus Circus is a small casino called Slots-A- Fun and it’s sort of dingy and old but it has a lot of character and I always go there every time I go to Vegas
Tim…..I wouldn’t stay in that hotel if they paid me $200. The place was truly gross. I’m surprised people don’t become ill from the dirt and the food looks like slop. You are a brave man for staying there. I don’t know how you slept!
Same here!
Don't lie, free room and $200? You'd stay
Anything else? Had your rabies shot?
Ok princess...
Yes, lie on the floor half dead.......@@PebblesOTB
My brother got married at Circus Circus Chapel 25 years ago. I did not have a good childhood, however, the happy memories I have are when my parents took us to Circus Circus. They gave us money and left us there for the entire day (we were 5 and 9). I loved the trapeze artists. They used to fly above us and perform a few times a day. I really do wish they'd renovate this place. Keeping all the old fixtures, just cleaning it and updating some things. I will never forget my happy days at Circus Circus.
Wow, left alone at 5 & 9, 😢. I’m glad you have those good memories of tho
Love your videos. I was really surprised they didn't stop you videoing in the casino part. Most casinos in LV don't allow any photography of any kind.
I can't imagine actually staying at circus circus. It's like a place you go when you're hitting up the strip. Like purely just to go in, walk around a little, and leave.
when a place gives you creepy vibes and you continually feel uneasy you should leave, your body is often eerily right about these things and thus if you feel something is wrong it often is.
After reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas I’ve always wanted to go the the Circus Circus because of how it was described in the book. Such a shame it’s no longer what it once was
Myself and my lawyer had a great time here.
Tell us about the Golf Shoes??
YOU CAN'T PARK THERE!!
Why?, Is this not a reasonable place to park?
Your on the sidewalk!
Listen. Let’s get down to brass tacks here, how much for the ape?
@@jcm78 How much do they pay you to do that to that polar bear?
Remember, homeless were housed there during Covid years....
I'm enjoying the day while binging on your videos. I stayed in Circus Circus in the 90's and early 2000's and it used to be a pretty great place. Though, the rooms are bombarded with pics of CLOWNS! Just a nope for me. My parents took me and my brother in August of 1993, right when the Adventure Dome opened. No lines, everything well built and clean, cheap prices, unlimited amounts of rides. My brother and I rode that roller coaster over and over for a full hour because no one was in line! It only cost $20 to enter the park and ride all the rides. Then, we paid $2.99 for a steak and eggs breakfast at the Golden Gate afterwards. Then we got a free shrimp cocktail later from the Riviera.
Man, I miss when Vegas was good and cheap...and the Rio hotel was in operation. MHO, the Rio was the best in all of Vegas and always will be.
Being from Southern California, I have gone to Vegas many times. Our family stayed at Circus Circus a few times when it was new, and it was THE place to go. It was crazy when you walked around the arcade area, because it was familiar to me, 50 years later. I remember running around there and playing those same games when I was a kid. These days, we don't even bother going that far down the strip and prefer to stay in the center where we can walk just about everywhere we wish to go. Not in the summer, of course! BTW, aside from its age and lack of proper cleaning, my guess is that a lot of the stale odor comes from the decades of people smoking cigarettes anywhere and everywhere in the hotels. That, thankfully, has changed.
The only way to get rid of the old stale smoke stench is to change out carpeting, curtains, wall coverings and anything that can hold onto the old smoke. Sometimes even textured ceilings and walls can hold odors.
This was the "go to" property back in the 70s and 80s and hard to get a room. Back then breakfast buffet was 95 cents, and dinner was 5 bucks. Sad to see it all run down.
I guess this was back when the mob ran it and the other properties.
Seems like with the long lines to check-in they are not having a problem filling it up! Great video ❤
This was very interesting! Thanks, Tim!
I used to gamble there (3-4 years ago) and my regular cocktail waitress was this very lovely elegant & intelligent lady from Poland who was waitressing there ever since it first opened. Still had the Eastern European accent and all.
Absolutely loved hearing all the stories she used to tell me.
I honestly hope it never closes.
There is a certain charm about it and the arcade has F-Zero AX.
Also, one of the best steak houses in Vegas!
Stayed once and had a great ayce buffet of prime rib. That was surprisingly good.
Poland is not eastern Europe, you would literally got slapped here for saying it :-) We are geographically and mentally central Europe and we really hate eastern Europe mentality. As for the girl I'm 99% sure your referring to my aunt, she upgraded and works as croupier in some other casino but last time I heard from her was half a year ago so it may have changed.
I’d stay there just to play F-Zero-AX. Still have my memory card
@@wykydytron
My apologies for the geographical error.. 😂
I'm Polish myself and have family in Nowy Sącz. I've visited your country and miss it, it is an awesome place indeed.
And that's your aunt? Haha, so cool! Small world. I'm super glad to hear she's doing good.
😊
This would be excellent for a horror movie. I’m getting liminal space vibes throughout this casino it’s very creepy. Imagine the power going out and then having to find your way around with just a flashlight 😱
It's already been in a movie
The carousel bar is prominently featured in fear and loathing in Las Vegas whit Jonny Depp
It's were he got problems getting on and off just an hilarious scene 😂😂
And a great movie 😂😂😂😂
I was at a regular old holiday inn when the power went out and everyone had to use a flashlight. That was spooky. Cant imagine this place holy cow
The thought of "Fire Hazard" comes to mind if one ever broke out there. Too many confusing corridors and not enough "EXIT" sign's.
@marymason9981 and one can only hope the wheelchair accessible rooms are on the 1st floor 😉🙂
You seem to have maturity issues
I would never stay there, however I appreciate your bravery and review of the hotel.
No don’t tell me you stayed!!!!?
I think the circus theme is really cool and unique there's tons of potential there, someone just needs to take over and redo the entire place. But every time they do that, they just make it all millennial gray. Theres no hint to being in a circus in the room, but none of that matters if it's dirty. They could also use some foliage and less parking lot vibes out front
You need the parking lot for folks to sleep who found they couldnt stand it anymore indoors.
I love the term “millennial gray”, it’s perfect for that drab color scheme I see all over the place right now.
Deep clean everything, replace carpets and fabrics, brighten up the common spaces with new (and brightly colored!) paint and wallpaper, polish up the fixtures, renovate the rooms- a muted retro feeling pastel 50s or brownish 60s theme with updated fixtures would be appropriate here, so guests can relax after the circus themed chaos outside! It’d take probably more cash than it’s worth but it’d be a neat retro theme hotel. Especially if you put old school soda and burger shops (in the style of Winstead’s) and maybe like make the parking lot drive-in movie theater themed? Keep the arcade and casino areas bright and flashy, keep the circus shows, maybe have a few characters or clowns running around, and theme the little convenience stores like a circus concession stand. Seems like you’d pick up the niche market of grandparents staying with the grandkids while the parents went off and had Vegas Fun elsewhere. Maybe have a clown do the weddings in a big top themed wedding chapel just for the unique photo op!
This hotel's potential went down in flames twenty years ago !
Is it cool? Is it really?
When I moved to Las Vegas in the mid-90s, Circus Circus wasn't too bad. It was the only family-friendly hotel on the Strip and you could get a clean, decent room for a bargain. The Adventure Dome and The Steak House were popular for the locals as well. Over time, it got so seedy that I refused to go near it. By the time I left Vegas in 2015, most of the original Strip hotels had been imploded or highly renovated. I can't believe this one is still standing. It's beyond salvaging, imo.
I used to love it as a kid in the late eighties, early nineties! I would beg my parents to stay here and Excalibur! Looks the same, but after all this time, I don't know if that's the best thing.
@@angelface925 ~ Yes, it and the Excal were great fun in their day. And I used to enjoy the Luxor for the Egyptian theme.
If you haven't been back since the early 90s, I suggest that you don't even go. It's not the same place anymore. 😢 Better to remember it the way it was. 👍
@@clairdelunefan last I remember they hadn't finished the Luxor, just had the frame done. If I went now, I think it'd be okay. I'd just have to set realistic expectations and explore. Excalibur still looks fun!
We stayed here in ’98 for a few nights on our way to Disneyland. I was 8 and my brother was 5 so I’m sure I don’t remember much or accurately. But I remember having a good time. I went on the rollercoaster twice with my dad. We also went to the Mirage and saw all the animals which I loved at the time. Now though I wouldn’t even entertain the idea.
@@h.b16 you should check out the sphere in Las Vegas. U2 did the opening show
Literally looks the exact same as when I was first there about 30 years ago as a little kid with my parents and brother 😮!! Too bad, it had always been a fun place for the families with kids. Now, I’d stay at the palms most likely and just “visit” the arcade there if the kids wanted to. Nowadays though, I think there’s just as much to do for kids at other resort/casino’s. Too bad; if they would’ve kept it up, they’d probably still have a hold on that market of tourists! Love all your content!
Lol the drink being 150% cheaper at 7/11 would mean you get a drink, and they give you $3 free! A real bargain lol. Loving the USA tour Tim!
When I get home I’m definitely gonna be asking my wife “Has anyone hoovered today?” I just love that phrase
Was the first vacuum cleaner originally a hoover? Google answer: Asthmatic American inventor James Spangler sold his idea for an electric broomstick-like cleaner-with cloth filter and dust-collection bag attached to the long handle-to William Hoover in 1908. His invention proved to be arguably the first truly practicable domestic vacuum cleaner.
Stayed there in '73, it was spanking new feeling, I was about 11 - 12, on a trip with other kids. We had the hugest blast. Running all around while acrobats sailed thru the air...there was a blingy restaraunt that was dark and misty with plats and little pods where you ate, filled with tiny bridges and waterways, it was hidden from the other attractions, sort of around the corner from the carnival ~ it felt like a secret.
Hi, My husband and I stayed at the Sahara which was across the road and a bit further along the strip from Circus Circus. We loved it even though it was old, Elvis and the Beatles had stayed there. It had a balcony which we loved with two comfy vintage chairs and a table on, it had a brilliant view across to the mountains and you could watch the sunset. It’s sad that it’s gone
Former MGM employee here, back when Circus Circus was owned and operated by them.
They don't invest in remodeling, refurbishing, or staffing because, as is, its a very profitable casino. Why bother if you're consistently in the green and enough people come anyways?
The back room employee area looks like a set from the walking dead, excluding the hallway with the EDR which was fairly nice.
While I would like to see SOME sort of updates - I have tried to tell people this. Circus Circus knows what they are, so don't freaking touch it. Tear down Treasure Island before you think about demolishing Circus Circus. But, again, some minor updates and revitalization could be nice - even if they are profitable without it
In the long run it's not a wise business strategy tho.
There comes a point of no return, if enough people are disgusted by the state of the hotel, they'll just stop coming and the hotel's reputation will be ruined by which point even refurbishing may not help.
My future wife and I stayed there almost 40 years ago. They advertised "Any room, $30" for hundreds of miles before you got there. At the time the hotel was still in pristine shape (but gaudy) and very clean. Food was cheap back then, you could get a nice prime rib for $5 and breakfast for $2 or $3.
we're you there in 1996? It was no different when I was out there then.
@@MadMomma-kj9ks That would have been 1988.
If you know this women for over 40 years, you should marry her already :)
My family stayed there when I was a kid, probably 20+ years ago and it definitely wasn’t a disaster back then. This makes me sad, as I have fond memories of it :(
I stayed there years ago…probably the 1980s - it wasn’t great but super cheap buffet was!
Hi Tim I hope you are well. I just wanted to say the dish you called grits looked to me as more of a corned beef hash(made with corned beef and potatoes). Grits are made with a type of process corn and I love grits done right. I can only compare maybe canned haggis to canned corned beef hash because of being made with meats and starches. Amazing video btw! 🤗
you are 100% correct. I was going to comment, but glad you did instead. What he was eating was corned beef hash, not grits, which is a corn byproduct.
He also thought the chicken fried steak was chicken and the boiled eggs were mozarella cheese. It was kind of impressive.
Thanks for the re-cap there ... Chef Boyardee
And then there was scone vs. biscuit.
@@rochelle1117 yeah, I was baffled like has this man ever seen Food before? 🤣
I can understand not changing the carpet or old furniture. But the complete lack of any maintenance or cleaning is inexcusable.
Especially the broken glass on the carpet.
That carpet needs to be sent to a lab I’m sure they discover all kinds of new things growing in there. 🤮
Great tip for Bed Bugs . Peel back the top sheet and iron a corner of the bed . Peel back sheet and if there the bed bugs the heat will bring them out the mattress ❤
Great review as always. I have been to Las Vegas and stayed in Ballys - it was fab but the walk so the pool as too long. I loved LV but really don't have an urge to go back.
I stayed there back in 1976, when my family moved from SoCal to Wyoming (that was a culture shock!). It was the second time we had stayed there. My bro and I played in the arcades while my parents played the slots. We would meet up with the parents to check in when the circus performed. It was very nice then and we had a great time! I'm surprised it hasn't been razed, and something bigger and better hasn't been built.
They had video game arcades in 1976?
@@kidgrebo1 Probably pinball machines and similar gaming machines.
@@goldman77700 That sounds about right
Those Circus Manor buildings look abandoned and creepy AF, and need to just be condemned/demolished at this point. Apparently, there was a random double murder in 2018 in one of those rooms because a random POS got into one of the buildings and went into one of the rooms at 2am where the door wasn't secure due to the door plate being loose. He stabbed two Asian tourists and took their belongings. So, yes, in this case, the "murder vibes" are actually legit. There's NO WAY I'd be the only guest staying in one of those entire buildings!
yeah, wouldn't be surprised if the gov use them for homeless or something like that eventually, but it gives a VERY bad vibe, anyone could just smash your window and do something and no one would even notice.
That must be the room with smashed windows. Creepy
That’s a horrible story.
Seriously!? Wow…
Door plate won't keep you safe if the door opens and someone wants in. That is called "security theater", like the TSA, or a chain on a door. People think it makes them safe or keeps people out, but all it takes is one person that doesn't abide by society's rules, in order to get in once the door is opened.
That is why you never open the door in a situation like that, if it is the middle of the night & someone you don't recognize (who isn't definitely from the hotel) comes to your room. They won't be able to kick in the door with the little extra lock and you can communicate through the door. Some people may think that's goofy, but you need to be aware of when danger most happens.
Reminded me of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The ether scene entering the hotel came to mind when you went outside to film.
thanks for the video. We used to go to CC 20 years ago during holiday breaks. It was a great value, but we noticed that it began going downhill when they started the "motel section" you toured that was empty. You didnt mention it, but they used to have a large parking lot just for large rv's and trucks with camping trailers. So, people were actually "camping" at the hotel. A SUGESTION FOR THE FUTURE, when reviewing a hotel invest in a blacklight or "clean flashlight" to examine the rooms...i think you'll be surprised at what you find! cheers.
My sister got married in Vegas & the bridal party (including me) stayed there. One trip to the breakfast buffet & we all got food poisoning. There were 3 of us in a room & it got...grim. My stomach is rolling just watching this.
Oh man. This sounds horrendous! Food poisoning when you have the throne to yourself is bad enough!
oh no sounds awful
i believe u i got food poisoning from their pizza, it wasn’t even good smh..
Yikes.
My parents took me here in the 70’s. Everything was sparkly and clean. I wanted to stay forever. They wanted grown up stuff so we didn’t stay long. I think back then the carousel wasn’t for adults. So sad to see it looking like this, and I can smell the place through the video.
If I ever had to go back to the hellscape that is Las Vegas, this was the only place I wanted to go.
I have never stayed there but its fun to visit and see all the old original stuff and play some machines you dont see elsewhere in vegas
I’d love to see Treasure Island Hotel in Vegas. That hotel reminded me of two hotels I stayed at down South on a road trip to Georgia, Louisiana and Tennessee. The smell in one of the hotels was of old cigarette smoke, I had to go to Bath and Body Works to buy a fabric and a room spray just so I could sleep at night. One of the hotels had what felt like a massive whole in the floor and I had to walk around it, but you couldn’t see it as it was covered with Lino floor covering. The final hotel we stayed in had a very clean bathroom, but the carpet in the room was grubby. The two AirBnbs we stayed in were beautiful and spotlessly clean.
Sadly, I have stayed at Circus Circus. I was there a decade ago when my son was still very young. The fairgrounds and circus did entertain him, but the place was already grubby even then. There were some disheartened American guests and some shellshocked foreign visitors. I went gambling with a cool Australian dude at one A.M. one night when I couldn't sleep.
To see a place with such potential and novel idea fall into disrepair break's my heart.
I went to Circus Circus passing through to Disneyland in 1977 as a 16 year-old, with my Dad and mum and I got propositioned right when I walked in the door with my family and it was hugely crowded back at that time but what my wandering eyes would appear that I was completely shocked at how it looks now in 2024. You did a great job, hon. I don’t think I would’ve even stayed in that bedroom and it gave me the creeps and as far as that buffet we have had buffets in Vegas Before that we’re absolutely delicious but that looked absolutely haunting. You probably could’ve got better food in the homeless shelter, but Circus Circus is iconic so it will be interesting to see what happens to it and I would love you to explore more of Vegas hotels… and I have worked in housekeeping, many years, even training maids, and that room would be totally unacceptable here in UTAH county, Provo, Utah, USA
This was fun to watch. Circus Circus, looks like a Nice Place to save. Needs more people to visit.
