Awesome vid.....I’m on a lake only 5 months now.....ice is finally great....they say it has walleye, but most people catch trout...I’m sure your lure selection will help me....thanks again
what an awesome tutorial video. Gord is one of the best fisherman and more importantly educators. Outdoor Canada is fortunate to have such a gentleman abd passionate fisherman on their staff!!
Stizan 23 take Gords advice about the multiple holes, especially if you are using a flasher. I have followed it, using a lindy darter or rattling rap to draw them in. I don't see results on them, but on lots the second line with bait, a jig or slater, spoon etc. just as he described. I typically fish clear waters in 6 to 25 feet, if there is no response on the flasher, to the rattle in 5 mins then I move. The fish are not there. If you are not using a finder, get one, whatever it takes. Your results will improve dramatically with one guaranteed.
Unfortunately the clackin rap has been discontinued. I have a couple that I use and it drives the pike crazy in a perch pattern. I would sure like to find a few more . Thanks for the great advice Gord
Going for eyes tomorrow. Wish me luck. I have been ice fishing for the past 3 years and I have yet to catch anything but 1 or 2 panfish a year. I changed my whole set up this year and have had a little more success but no walleye coming through that hole.
Hey Gord! Thanks for sharing. Here in Alberta you can't use live minnows so do you have any advice on what to use for the dead stick rod instead? Thanks!
How about when the walleyes are almost dormant and they will not bite much of anything in late winter. What do you use then? Small jig with minnow head?otherwise good video. thanks.
I'm sorry Gord Pyzer , but I'm not understanding how you hook the minnow onto the flasher jig, if you go behind the dorsal fin the hook will be pointing towards the tail?? and the minnow would be upside down?? or am I just not getting it right?? I fish a lot of lakes here in Northern Indiana or Lake Erie. Would these methods work??
Quentin & Alex - the MN law is no more than two lines through the ice per angler - number of holes doesn't matter. Lots of folks use the three-hole method to keep the sonar transducer out of the way if they have one...Alex - make as many holes as you need/wish (and is safe to do, and isn't getting too close to other anglers) - no more than two lines down is the law in MN waters see page 68 in the regulations PDF at:.www.dnr.state.mn.us/regulations/fishing/index.html

Great video Gord! Do you modify your jiggin raps at all? Hook wise I mean. The hooks they come with are rather small for me.
Wow that’s an amazing video
The best I’ve seen yet great job and thank you for the information
Gord is from my home town and yes he knows his stuff and no BS comes from him.

Never underestimate the power of a pink jig!
a 5th must have would be jigging spoons like a Lindy flyer north land macho minnow, or buck shot and Swedish pimple.
the buckshot has been my go to lure, for probably, the past five years. works great (on some) minnesota lakes.
heading out to my backyard lake (Lake Nip) in a few hours once by brother shows up. Perch are really biting!!
it would be nice if you add some amazon or other links where to buy them.
buy local if possible
Absolutely fantastic
So are any modifications needed for the flasher jigs if our area doesn't allow live bait?
hey gord , im on the bay of quinte in the einter, where woul i possibly buy all of these baits ?
How about when the walleyes are almost dormant and they will not bite much of anything in late winter. What do you use then? Small jig with minnow head?otherwise good video. thanks.
Gord, I love you!!
No more dead or live bait in Quebec does that make deadsticking obsolete? Or is there any artificial alternative?
Yeah, those are must haves! Great Video!
I wanna fish with you Gord!
I was just curious as to how far off the bottom I would put the dead stick jigging rod. On the bottom? a foot off?
i usually go a foot off bottom. that's the best place to start.
Hey does anyone know what ounce flasher jig that is that he's using
Yes it will work but only at the 60 feet area
Awesome seen these work !
Gord speaks, people should listen
Great video!!
How 'bout a glow in the dark airplane jig. It is crap and falls apart but the fish absolutely hammer it. Make it lime green or yellow.
confused on how to rig minnow on flasher jig, cant visualize need to make a quick video. or is there a video out there showing that Technique.
I'm here because I'll be entering my 2nd derby next week.
wow that awesome new idea's work well
What size snap rap?
I have a live target lipless rattler that looks like a swarm of shiners
this guy is awesome!

How do u find the walleye through the ice
enter through back of the dorsal, exit through front of dorsal. hook will be facing the head then
thanks Gord
I got the first hook, a Johnny darter.
Thank you sir
Awesome!
We. Use banana jigs in up state new York

I can't use live minnows where I live .. Anyways first I have to find out where the fish are hanging out !! 🤔
where do you fish

Lake of the woods, Minnesota
Alex, that would be illegal. You're only allowed two holes in MN for ice fishing.

Oh, and there are no Pickerel in Lake of the Woods.

Great rapala commercial but there are many more lures other than rapala that work
