Definitely! John Sykes was the soul of this album ! He was a big part of the iconic songs of the band... it was unfair and wasn't loyal. I love Adrian, Vai and all the amazing guitarists in WS but the story could be different with Sykes.
The band started in the late 70's, just like the best 80's bands, they were all coming from the big 70's. David was the lead singer for Deep Purple for a while.
99% it's a backing track; listen to it - Everything is just as it is on the album; live doesn't sound like that. That's Sykes' solo too. Vocals are live, obviously. Still a barnstormer of a track though,.

Of the musicians involved in the album what can’t be disputed is the impact John Sykes had on the album, not only with his writing (he co-wrote all but one of the tracks), but especially with his playing . Anyway it’s a great song from my early 20s
Just stumbled across this. Amazing vocals by DC. Aldridge is amazing as always. But if I was Sykes sitting on my couch hearing MY guitar being piped into this performance, I’d be livid. Then again, he did get writing and performance credit on a record that went ballistic, so the money was good. But seeing Adrian and Vivian miming my guitar parts for like a million people , would’ve made me wanna smash my tv.
Eventhough Vandenberg and campbell are great guitar players, these guitar parts are pure joke (they dance pretty well 😂😂) If I was Sykes, I would have thrown my beer on the tv set

Obviously, there is no way that MTV was going to let the musicians take the chance of not making the instruments sound exactly like the studio recording for this performance but the the drummer did a pretty good job of mimicking the recording. I graduated high school that year. Fortunately, I got to experience some great music in my teens and early 20's before grunge ruined the 'hair band' era. Dave did a great job singing to the track.

Coverdale doesn't sound much like what the Mike Stone and Keith Olsen were able to make the 87 album (with John Sykes on guitar) sound like in real life. I saw Whitesnake live 2X. Once w/ Motley Crue and once with Great White on the White Tour. As much as I love the song from ‘87 (and others), my biggest disappointment was not being able to see the inimitable John Sykes play them.
