What I love about the FL is that she's so naturally cute. She's also got this quiet energy that's easy to vibe with. She's excellent at her profession but doesn't act like a know-it-all in other respects. What I mean to say is that she's smart, cute, and not problematic LOL. I know that sounds like a low bar, but sometimes Chinese dramas make very intelligent people annoying. Everyone on the show makes so much sense.
There's a scene that extrangely touched me. An evil Eunuch is putting on a fake beard and looking at himself constantly on a mirror. It doesn't stay put and he is frustrated. He says "it is the only thing different from the people in power". It made reflect on the abyss that might have been becoming an eunch, the danger of the procedure, the hormonal imbalances and the outcast condition of not having descendants on that era. And this is from a bad guy, rarely I see depth of character on the good guys, much less on the twisted ones. Well done show, well done.
I'm optimistic! Since Chu Chu is openly a woman from the get-go, there won't be a oh no someone is going to find out she's a woman plot later on. That storyline has been beaten to death.
Definitely my favorite Chinese drama at the moment, and I actually don't mind that they didn't spend money on the costumes, but on the script and made everyone competent. I also was super impressed with the underground scenes that were shot with real torches and looked so convincingly dark. Hopefully the drama will hold on the quality of the story telling till the end.
I share your opinion, for a costume ignorant like me, the costumes are fine and I have seen worst as also better ones, but Chu Chu is grown in a not wealthy family so it's fine an the main lead is...how they say...modest....The story is likeable and not boring, I am half way through Ep.18) and I am eager to see how it evolves, how they will manage to protect their blossoming love. Where is the father, why has he been away so long, the chief enuch how will he end..and so on. And zi like that the actors are natural...sometimes some have so alternated facial features due to plastic surgery that I have been loosing focus on the drama itself...to concentrated on funny chins or noses...🤣

I kept waiting for the dumbness to drop, but every character acts like they should. Like at first, I thought the King was dumb and going to be dumb, then bam, he's actually very clever. Then I thought the second female lead was going to be one of those headache flitty girls, and I was all set to hate her, and then, bam, nope. She's also not lovesick character type. I believe her. And I actually like her, and there is actually a good relationship between her and the female lead character. And the Second male lead--I thought he'd turn out to be dumb, but he's actually clever and has his own motivations as well. Every time I expected someone to be dumb, they have their own motivations, agency, and it's really, really refreshing, honestly, to have all of the characters pushing and pulling the plot in different directions. If this drama had no romance, I'd still be super satisfied. BTW, the characters *still* have personal flaws to overcome, so it's not like a bunch of Mary Sues and Gary Stus, and it's not one character with all the brilliance and talents, but the flaws are also not overplayed in the drama. They are there, but there is no big explanation or grandstanding, the plot works to let you figure it all out and piece it together. So, in turn you don't feel dumb for watching it. You actually have something to work on.
10 episodes in and I find FL constantly out of characters. She is only smart when examining bodies. She is so dumb outside of that. What another disappointment.

She’s a child of a coroner so she most likely doesn’t have much interaction with other folks since ordinary folks avoid coroners thinking it’s bad luck. Her only friend seems to be the Witch doctor who regaled her with stories about crimes and the Handsome Judge. So, in keeping with her character, she’s super smart when it comes to her specialty but clueless about social etiquette or other street smart situations.

I really enjoyed this series. It’s smart, thoughtful, and I found myself very interested throughout in the detective story aspect and the relationships between ML and FL, 2nd ML and 2nd FL and their interaction as a team. They are smart, thoughtful, respectful and clever. The romance evolved naturally from mutual respect, which is refreshing to see. Imperial Coroner is a favorite!
You are right about the script. I liked it when the brought back the lightning guy, was not expecting that. It's also good they don't do fan service, that crap needs to stop being over the top. Girls need to protect girls!!
I love detective series and in the past year I've watched Ancient Detective, Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty, Maiden Holmes, and now I'm up to ep 6 of The Imperial Coroner and so far this is by far superior to all of the above. I actually like that they do not spend too much time on the romance/coupling. The plot is just so good. I am entranced! The plot has a wonderful pace and I do not have any time to make my own predictions or hypotheses as I watch the show unfold because I'm so absorbed and enjoying the twists and turns and marvelling at every characters' intelligence and peculiarities. I really hope this show has a strong ending. There have been too many shows that have fallen flat at the finish line that I've developed trust issues!
18 epsiodes in and I'm so impressed with this drama! Everything has been put together perfectly! Its definitely my favourite Chinese drama I've ever watched and thats not exaggerating! I really couldn't recommend it enough if u love detective plots. The characters are not exaggerated, naive, unlogical or annoying. They are intelligent, have strong personalities, character development, characteristics and logic, not to mention great chemistry! Who needs a big budget and high end actors when u can make such a great drama like this? In fact this kind of drama shows an actors true ability rather than playing characters that are very unrealistic or cringey like a lot of high end actors seem to play.
I watched the trailer randomly (mainly because of the drama title) and hooked immediately! I love how the FL is not a stupid clumsy one also the detective story is fast pacing and makes sense. Let's make a circle prayer wishing 2/3 parts will be as good as the released episodes 🙏🙏🙏
Love the Chu Chu character. She is smart and knowledgeable, But at the same time she can be so clueless because she comes from the countryside. Such a good character and perfect actress for the part.
I love this drama. Finally another drama that I don’t need to skip scenes so not to waste my time. I also tried Ancient Detective per your recommendation but I stop watching after they solve the first major case(killing on the contest) just because I wasn’t wowed and I actually pick the murderer. I also like the animation(definitely more than on the long ballad] on the long ballad the drawing tried to matched the drama actors look but actually the drawing itself did not matched the drama feels. While on this drama the animation did not look out of place with the drama itself. What I like about the drama that you did not mentioned was that the characters actually have characters. I love that the emperor have his miniature building hobby. The eunuch keep obsessing with beards, the 2ML hobby etc.
How about I spoil Ancient Detective ending for you. Remember they all were looking for some demon/bad person who committed mass murder before? The starring is actually the murderer they were looking for.
I binged the first twelve episodes in one afternoon. They're really good and I love all the clues they drop for the characters and audience. It makes you feel really involved. I also really like that the cases are all linked in one way or another. We know from the get-go who's the final boss and who's good and who's bad. Chu Chu is, thankfully, the right balance of smart and dumb. Like, she's amazing in her field but her EQ isn't the highest yet she's also not a delicate flower.
I binged the last bunch of episodes. And. I. LOVE. IT!!!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!! I've already rewatched it so many times, I can put it in the background while I'm playing AC2.
Oh you should and you won't be disappointed, trust me. Like AvenueX said, it's so rare to have an excellent script, great acting, literally no plot holes in one drama. I started watching it because of FL whom I loved in Young Blood (another great drama) and I initially wanted to just watch one ep. but before I knew it I was on ep. 12. and that's how engaging it is.
I pressed play on the 1th episode of this drama on your recommendation. ▶️ I was pleasantly surprised a while later when I found myself having binged watched the 6 first episodes.😀 Such an enjoyable drama. I have watched this drama to ep 18 and enjoying very much. I even watched some untranslated episodes on some dubious websites so that means I really like it. I don't speak Chinese so am very busy reading subs and cannot tell anything about dubbing or timing so that is good for me. Also, I don't know about costumes but as someone else mentioned I like the bad lighting as that seems authentic. I really like the detective aspect of this series because it is integral to getting to the understanding of the main characters. Chu Chu- what a very odd upbringing she has had and yet she is not a pathetic character, but is very strong and going after her life goals. At first I said how can she know all these forensic details at such a young age and later I said OH this is why. The ML I think has fallen so quickly for her its a little surprising but pleasantly so that I would think he would be holding back a bit since their difference in social status gives them zero chance to be together. I also like how FL is kind of really super smart and yet not quite normal. For instance, bringing in chickens, looking underneath someones shirt, intention of demo of CPR, putting on makeup etc- she does not properly draw the line of etiquette, but its so cute and she is kind of non-sexual that somehow is very sexy and what makes her so appealing. And second male lead- just watching him watching them makes you smile and you feel like you are in a story that really feels real. I am also happy that the second lead female is not an evil woman trying to go after the ML like so many dramas as I feel each of the 4 characters can develop a separate relationship with each other. I also like that each character is not perfect. FL is not a martial arts expert. ML does not develop trust easily. Second male lead is a playboy. Second female so far is not easy to understand her motives, maybe she just wants to do her own thing in life. I can't wait to see what happens next.
I regretted starting to watch it when you recommended it during your weekly video. I finished 12eps in a day and now I have to wait for the new episodes! It's gonna be such a torture. Agree the out of sync dubbing is a tad frustrating but I can look past that. From the fact that I barely skipped any sequences means the narration is good enough. Finally we have people with logic in ancient dramaland!
@@icie1500 :) I understand both languages.. yeah out of sync is probably not the best word to use here. Sync not only as in timing. I intended to mean spoken words n lips movement dont match/sync. I know they changed ALOT of the lines. Forgot it's the writer's or director's interview.. they shot with original script which left alot of the conversations very unclear n not direct hence the director suggested amending the lines..
Omg i usually dont leave a comment but i have to for this drama! I went in with no expectations while waiting for episodes for other dramas to air but was surprised by how good it was. I was sucked into the story and now i'm waiting for new episodes .Hope the plot holds up!
As a fan of detective stories and mysteries, I'm really enjoying The Imperial Coroner so far. I'm drawn to the plot and loving the fact that all the characters are very clever.. Su Xiaotong is really cute and Wang Zi Qi is very handsome & his acting is pretty good. I remember him from one of the Novoland series - he played a supporting role there but left an impression on me, more so than the main male lead.
I watched this review and decided to give this drama a go and OMG the cuteness! But also, I didn't expect it to be this well written at all. Definitely hoping I can see this newbie cast grow more popular in c-dramaland!
Just finished all episodes and I give it a two thumbs up. I even enjoyed the little cartoon touch they added at the very end of the credits. They did a great job.
I’m not familiar with the main characters, but then as I have watched the series, I feel curious to see them and the more interested I am with the story plot. It’s nice to have fresh faces as the main leads that I don’t need to expect too much from them, and yet the whole series gives me the good vibes to see what they will do next.

They may not be considered as stunningly pretty (which seems like the standard for cdrama nowadays), but for me their acting is very good, and that should matter more to make a drama enjoyable to watch. The Imperial Coroner is such a hidden gem. I'm so glad we're seeing more intelligent dramas like that with a super tight storyline and smart, sensible characters who don't misunderstand each other at every turn. I'm not usually a fan of procedural dramas (CSI, anyone?) but set it in the Tang dynasty, throw in a few lovable supporting characters and very, very likeable leads and I'm sold. I was hooked right from the first episode, and that's rare for Chinese dramas, which usually take a few episodes for the story to gain traction. Really wish they'll make a season 2 of The Imperial Coroner!
You had mentioned this show in a previous video, so I tried the first episode. Rather, I started to watch the first episode. The husband (who's been avoiding getting involved with my Chinese Dramas) walked into the room to ask me something and got sucked in. So, rewind and we both watched the first two episodes. Now, we're trying to figure out when we can do another couple, because he wants to watch it as well. As for the dubbing, well, I think this is a moment when not speaking Mandarin and having to rely on subtitles helps. But I'm also going to try Ancient Detective as well.
After finishing Word of Honor and Nirvana in fire, I literally couldn't pick a drama to watch next. I went through 6-7 dramas just to drop them or fast forward them, until this one. It reminds me of some good things in I'm fallen for you and Young Blood, but also has some fresh things. I love how smart and calm the main CP is. Definitely worth checking out.

Hope you come back to review it as a whole. I just finished watching it and I think it succeeded in maintaining its narrative quality till the end. So many smart characters, and the Prince and Chu Chu are just an unbeatable detective duo. The last couple of episodes are slightly funny in that it's a case of "A: I know what you're gonna do. B: And I know that you know what I'm gonna do. A: But I also know that you know that I know what you're gonna do."😂 I particularly liked how they managed to outwit Qin Luan, putting up a show he could see right through so he wouldn't suspect the reason for it. This show is definitely making it into my favourites. It's a shame they barely got time to get to the end and the extremely short "epilogue" was animated. Stylistic or budget choice?
This one is definitely such a pleasant surprise. Its light and easy, in a way, but not lacking in storytelling at all. So far, its doing a great job at the unfolding process. So, it definitely keeps me intrigued and look forward, joyfully, to the next episode.
Definitely gonna check this out. Mystery/Detective/Romance is my thing. Update: binge watching 14 episodes and it's just like AvenueX said. The storyline is sooooo good.
I want to thank you for mentioning this drama in your previous cdrama industry recap video. I decided to watch and I love it. Mystery and detective novels are my favorite so the plotting and characters are so good. Everything does make logical sense and the mystery has me on my seat watching. In regards to the camera work and grading, I like what they did because it looks great though yes, I noticed the dubbing sync mistakes, I'm close to finishing the 12 episodes. I loved that the female lead was from Youngblood. She fits this type of role well. I'm shipping both the female lead and second female lead more than the main couple. Probably because high budget ones have a lot of sponsorship backing, which means they have to advertise the companies within their shows which can take up the allocated storyboard and filming resources etc. (other than the reason being that they just want to keep as much money as possible and doing as little work as possible).
Many chinese dramas are low budget like there is so few that are up to Korean budget dramas. This drama of Allen Ren and Xing Fei surprised me because the apartment alone is so budgeted, also the one of Bai Jing Ting (the militar-medic theme drama)
i am up to ep 10 and enjoying it. im mostly happy that the drama is "action-based”, characters are doing things, not just stand/sit somewhere and do the talking while cameras is zooming on their faces to a disturbing degree... wish the drama will keep all its qualities till the very last episode 🤞

Listening to what you've said I would say.......Welcome to Hollywood standard where western viewers don't like to waste time in detective movie or drama.....they like their detective drama or movie to get straight to the point..... This drama reminds me of my all time favorite detective drama The X-Files, it's the American TV drama I am glad that this drama has good production team and that they stick to the original script and the main thing was they developed this drama in every episode something I rarely see in Chinese historical or modern drama. If these was in done in English it would be a hit in the Western side.... because of good script, great acting & casts, plots is good. Also Western movie makers now days don't like to over use famous actors or actress in their movies and they are always looking for new talents that can deliver because they are unknown and they listen to what is needed of them in making the movie and they do get recognized in the end of their acting skills by the fans of the movie or drama. Time has changed and Western side people and viewers like new scripts and stories but no repeated, something I see a lot in Chinese drama. It saddens me that the Chinese movie industry is trying so hard to get into Hollywood but they seem not to learn much and they have been at it for many years so like they have to learn how Korean movie industry is doing and Japan too. It's not always about the famous actors or actress making the movie famous it is about how the script is written and developed to make a good movie or drama.
Checking this drama out because of your review and after 5 episodes I find it quite enjoyable. Everyone is likeable and the little comedic moments are quite enjoyable. Not to mention, the OST is quite good as well. I'm glad I started after it already finished airing so I don't have to wait for new episodes.
I went to check it out after you mentioned it in a previous video, and I've watched the first 6 eps, and I like it a lot. Not least because as you say, everyone is intelligent and competent and acting like it!
I'm at ep 22 now, currently waiting for the rest to be subbed and this is one of the rare cdramas where I can watch fully without fastforward button and that says so much about how tight and well-written the plot is so far and not to mention how good all characters are like you said, both good and bad sides. Last time I was this invested is The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty.
I guess I have to add this drama to my watchlist. I appreciate good acting, good plot, awesome well made dramas. I get irritated by high budget dramas with big name actors who cannot really act.
I just finished this drama on WeTV and it’s awesome. I’m so sad it’s done. Love all the characters. It’s a great ending. I did wish they gave them more time for the romantic scene. The main lead is so handsome too. Look forward to seeing all these actors in other dramas.

I really loved this drama cause female lead doesn't have to suffer from being frame or punish by emperor, princess. Everything is smooth running.

I really like the authentic lighting in this drama. Back in those days they mainly used candles and fire for light so the yellow tinge feels authentic

I love detective series and in the past year I've watched Ancient Detective, Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty, Maiden Holmes, and now I'm up to ep 6 of The Imperial Coroner and so far this is by far superior to all of the above. I actually like that they do not spend too much time on the romance/coupling. The plot is just so good. I am entranced! The plot has a wonderful pace and I do not have any time to make my own predictions or hypotheses as I watch the show unfold because I'm so absorbed and enjoying the twists and turns and marvelling at every characters' intelligence and peculiarities. I really hope this show has a strong ending. There have been too many shows that have fallen flat at the finish line that I've developed trust issues!
Try Chef Fang, not full detective genre, but its still enjoyable

18 epsiodes in and I'm so impressed with this drama! Everything has been put together perfectly! Its definitely my favourite Chinese drama I've ever watched and thats not exaggerating! I really couldn't recommend it enough if u love detective plots. The characters are not exaggerated, naive, unlogical or annoying. They are intelligent, have strong personalities, character development, characteristics and logic, not to mention great chemistry! Who needs a big budget and high end actors when u can make such a great drama like this? In fact this kind of drama shows an actors true ability rather than playing characters that are very unrealistic or cringey like a lot of high end actors seem to play.

I watched the trailer randomly (mainly because of the drama title) and hooked immediately! I love how the FL is not a stupid clumsy one also the detective story is fast pacing and makes sense. Let's make a circle prayer wishing 2/3 parts will be as good as the released episodes 🙏🙏🙏

Love the Chu Chu character. She is smart and knowledgeable, But at the same time she can be so clueless because she comes from the countryside. Such a good character and perfect actress for the part.

I love this drama. Finally another drama that I don’t need to skip scenes so not to waste my time. I also tried Ancient Detective per your recommendation but I stop watching after they solve the first major case(killing on the contest) just because I wasn’t wowed and I actually pick the murderer.
I also like the animation(definitely more than on the long ballad] on the long ballad the drawing tried to matched the drama actors look but actually the drawing itself did not matched the drama feels. While on this drama the animation did not look out of place with the drama itself.
What I like about the drama that you did not mentioned was that the characters actually have characters. I love that the emperor have his miniature building hobby. The eunuch keep obsessing with beards, the 2ML hobby etc.
How about I spoil Ancient Detective ending for you. Remember they all were looking for some demon/bad person who committed mass murder before? The starring is actually the murderer they were looking for.
I binged the first twelve episodes in one afternoon. They're really good and I love all the clues they drop for the characters and audience. It makes you feel really involved. I also really like that the cases are all linked in one way or another. We know from the get-go who's the final boss and who's good and who's bad. Chu Chu is, thankfully, the right balance of smart and dumb. Like, she's amazing in her field but her EQ isn't the highest yet she's also not a delicate flower.
I binged the last bunch of episodes. And. I. LOVE. IT!!!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!! I've already rewatched it so many times, I can put it in the background while I'm playing AC2.
This company knows how to produce three good ‘ The Lost Tomb’ series. I’ll give this drama a try.
Oh you should and you won't be disappointed, trust me. Like AvenueX said, it's so rare to have an excellent script, great acting, literally no plot holes in one drama. I started watching it because of FL whom I loved in Young Blood (another great drama) and I initially wanted to just watch one ep. but before I knew it I was on ep. 12. and that's how engaging it is.
I've watched the first 12 episodes and I'm enjoying it. It feels like I'm watching an Asian CSI in ancient time 😁👍

I have watched this drama to ep 18 and enjoying very much. I even watched some untranslated episodes on some dubious websites so that means I really like it. I don't speak Chinese so am very busy reading subs and cannot tell anything about dubbing or timing so that is good for me. Also, I don't know about costumes but as someone else mentioned I like the bad lighting as that seems authentic. I really like the detective aspect of this series because it is integral to getting to the understanding of the main characters. Chu Chu- what a very odd upbringing she has had and yet she is not a pathetic character, but is very strong and going after her life goals. At first I said how can she know all these forensic details at such a young age and later I said OH this is why. The ML I think has fallen so quickly for her its a little surprising but pleasantly so that I would think he would be holding back a bit since their difference in social status gives them zero chance to be together. I also like how FL is kind of really super smart and yet not quite normal. For instance, bringing in chickens, looking underneath someones shirt, intention of demo of CPR, putting on makeup etc- she does not properly draw the line of etiquette, but its so cute and she is kind of non-sexual that somehow is very sexy and what makes her so appealing. And second male lead- just watching him watching them makes you smile and you feel like you are in a story that really feels real. I am also happy that the second lead female is not an evil woman trying to go after the ML like so many dramas as I feel each of the 4 characters can develop a separate relationship with each other. I also like that each character is not perfect. FL is not a martial arts expert. ML does not develop trust easily. Second male lead is a playboy. Second female so far is not easy to understand her motives, maybe she just wants to do her own thing in life. I can't wait to see what happens next.

I regretted starting to watch it when you recommended it during your weekly video. I finished 12eps in a day and now I have to wait for the new episodes! It's gonna be such a torture. Agree the out of sync dubbing is a tad frustrating but I can look past that. From the fact that I barely skipped any sequences means the narration is good enough. Finally we have people with logic in ancient dramaland!

@@icie1500 :) I understand both languages.. yeah out of sync is probably not the best word to use here. Sync not only as in timing. I intended to mean spoken words n lips movement dont match/sync. I know they changed ALOT of the lines. Forgot it's the writer's or director's interview.. they shot with original script which left alot of the conversations very unclear n not direct hence the director suggested amending the lines..

Omg i usually dont leave a comment but i have to for this drama! I went in with no expectations while waiting for episodes for other dramas to air but was surprised by how good it was. I was sucked into the story and now i'm waiting for new episodes .Hope the plot holds up!
As a fan of detective stories and mysteries, I'm really enjoying The Imperial Coroner so far. I'm drawn to the plot and loving the fact that all the characters are very clever.. Su Xiaotong is really cute and Wang Zi Qi is very handsome & his acting is pretty good. I remember him from one of the Novoland series - he played a supporting role there but left an impression on me, more so than the main male lead.
I watched this review and decided to give this drama a go and OMG the cuteness! But also, I didn't expect it to be this well written at all. Definitely hoping I can see this newbie cast grow more popular in c-dramaland!
Just finished all episodes and I give it a two thumbs up. I even enjoyed the little cartoon touch they added at the very end of the credits. They did a great job.
I’m not familiar with the main characters, but then as I have watched the series, I feel curious to see them and the more interested I am with the story plot. It’s nice to have fresh faces as the main leads that I don’t need to expect too much from them, and yet the whole series gives me the good vibes to see what they will do next.
I really enjoy that drama. I just hope they don’t stumble in the middle.

Thank you for recommending this drama! I enjoy watching all episodes that has been aired so far. And i love the acting of all the lead actors. They may not be considered as stunningly pretty (which seems like the standard for cdrama nowadays), but for me their acting is very good, and that should matter more to make a drama enjoyable to watch. Yes, hopefully this standard is maintained to the end

The Imperial Coroner is such a hidden gem. I'm so glad we're seeing more intelligent dramas like that with a super tight storyline and smart, sensible characters who don't misunderstand each other at every turn. I'm not usually a fan of procedural dramas (CSI, anyone?) but set it in the Tang dynasty, throw in a few lovable supporting characters and very, very likeable leads and I'm sold. I was hooked right from the first episode, and that's rare for Chinese dramas, which usually take a few episodes for the story to gain traction. Really wish they'll make a season 2 of The Imperial Coroner!
You had mentioned this show in a previous video, so I tried the first episode. Rather, I started to watch the first episode. The husband (who's been avoiding getting involved with my Chinese Dramas) walked into the room to ask me something and got sucked in. So, rewind and we both watched the first two episodes. Now, we're trying to figure out when we can do another couple, because he wants to watch it as well. As for the dubbing, well, I think this is a moment when not speaking Mandarin and having to rely on subtitles helps. But I'm also going to try Ancient Detective as well.

After finishing Word of Honor and Nirvana in fire, I literally couldn't pick a drama to watch next. I went through 6-7 dramas just to drop them or fast forward them, until this one. It reminds me of some good things in I'm fallen for you and Young Blood, but also has some fresh things. I love how smart and calm the main CP is. Definitely worth checking out.

Hope you come back to review it as a whole. I just finished watching it and I think it succeeded in maintaining its narrative quality till the end. So many smart characters, and the Prince and Chu Chu are just an unbeatable detective duo. The last couple of episodes are slightly funny in that it's a case of "A: I know what you're gonna do. B: And I know that you know what I'm gonna do. A: But I also know that you know that I know what you're gonna do."😂 I particularly liked how they managed to outwit Qin Luan, putting up a show he could see right through so he wouldn't suspect the reason for it. This show is definitely making it into my favourites. It's a shame they barely got time to get to the end and the extremely short "epilogue" was animated. Stylistic or budget choice?
I saw your video comes up with this drama title, went to binge watch 10 episodes and came here for the impression. It is really a good drama.
This one is definitely such a pleasant surprise. Its light and easy, in a way, but not lacking in storytelling at all. So far, its doing a great job at the unfolding process. So, it definitely keeps me intrigued and look forward, joyfully, to the next episode.

I want to thank you for mentioning this drama in your previous cdrama industry recap video. I decided to watch and I love it. Mystery and detective novels are my favorite so the plotting and characters are so good.
Everything does make logical sense and the mystery has me on my seat watching. In regards to the camera work and grading, I like what they did because it looks great though yes, I noticed the dubbing sync mistakes, I'm close to finishing the 12 episodes. I loved that the female lead was from Youngblood. She fits this type of role well. I'm shipping both the female lead and second female lead more than the main couple. Probably because high budget ones have a lot of sponsorship backing, which means they have to advertise the companies within their shows which can take up the allocated storyboard and filming resources etc. (other than the reason being that they just want to keep as much money as possible and doing as little work as possible).

Many chinese dramas are low budget like there is so few that are up to Korean budget dramas. This drama of Allen Ren and Xing Fei surprised me because the apartment alone is so budgeted, also the one of Bai Jing Ting (the militar-medic theme drama)

i am up to ep 10 and enjoying it. im mostly happy that the drama is "action-based”, characters are doing things, not just stand/sit somewhere and do the talking while cameras is zooming on their faces to a disturbing degree... wish the drama will keep all its qualities till the very last episode 🤞

Listening to what you've said I would say.......Welcome to Hollywood standard where western viewers don't like to waste time in detective movie or drama.....they like their detective drama or movie to get straight to the point.....
This drama reminds me of my all time favorite detective drama The X-Files, it's the American TV drama
I am glad that this drama has good production team and that they stick to the original script and the main thing was they developed this drama in every episode something I rarely see in Chinese historical or modern drama.
If these was in done in English it would be a hit in the Western side.... because of good script, great acting & casts, plots is good.
Also Western movie makers now days don't like to over use famous actors or actress in their movies and they are always looking for new talents that can deliver because they are unknown and they listen to what is needed of them in making the movie and they do get recognized in the end of their acting skills by the fans of the movie or drama.
Time has changed and Western side people and viewers like new scripts and stories but no repeated, something I see a lot in Chinese drama.
It saddens me that the Chinese movie industry is trying so hard to get into Hollywood but they seem not to learn much and they have been at it for many years so like they have to learn how Korean movie industry is doing and Japan too.
It's not always about the famous actors or actress making the movie famous it is about how the script is written and developed to make a good movie or drama.
Please do a final review! This series was so good!
Checking this drama out because of your review and after 5 episodes I find it quite enjoyable. Everyone is likeable and the little comedic moments are quite enjoyable. Not to mention, the OST is quite good as well.
I'm glad I started after it already finished airing so I don't have to wait for new episodes.

I'm at ep 22 now, currently waiting for the rest to be subbed and this is one of the rare cdramas where I can watch fully without fastforward button and that says so much about how tight and well-written the plot is so far and not to mention how good all characters are like you said, both good and bad sides. Last time I was this invested is The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty.
WOH ends tomorrow here in Mexico, so I'm going to watch this serie.
I guess I have to add this drama to my watchlist. I appreciate good acting, good plot, awesome well made dramas. I get irritated by high budget dramas with big name actors who cannot really act.

I just finished this drama on WeTV and it’s awesome. I’m so sad it’s done. Love all the characters. It’s a great ending. I did wish they gave them more time for the romantic scene. The main lead is so handsome too. Look forward to seeing all these actors in other dramas.
