All of you are so immature. In the Elizabethan era Elizabeth was considered sexy, yes. Women would dye their hair ginger to be like hers and men would try their best to become her king. Of course it is going to be different for what was considered attractive back then to how it is now
Cheerio Totoro I think what he meant by sexy was that she had an attractive personality. She was known to be pretty good looking in her early years, but she always had a charm to her that attracted men. Kind of like her mother.
Cheerio Totoro Elizabeth was extremely vain, and men knew complimenting her beauty was the way to get favors from her. No one wanted to be on her bad side because she was so moody and unpredictable.

The video was produced by 10th-grade students for a multimedia class project in the form of an historical rap throwdown. Out of the 10 videos that the different teams of students produced, this one is the finest and won the class contest.
Sassy Jade After Catherine Howard's execution she had told her friend, Robert Dudley, "I will never marry." No doubt because she was older and understood more, she saw that Catherine hadn't loved her father and probably believed that no one could actually be loyal to their wedding oaths. But, she did live with Katherine Parr whose husband, Thomas Seymour, would come into her room at night in his nightclothes and by her governesses words, he would tickle her and slap her in her bed. He also once ripped a black dress she was wearing to shreds. Katherine thought it was all fun and games and would sometimes join. That is until she found them in an embrace and sent Elizabeth away. Also, despite the fact that her father had her mother executed, she was very fond of him. Even though she never married, she did have a number of suitors, and thought of herself as married to her country and the mother of her subjects. My guess is, there was some deep psychological issues that made her think this way, no doubt due to her father and his many failed marriages. Isn't that always the case though.
Have you ever seen Elizabeth R with Glenda Jackson? It's a Masterpiece Theatre 6 part miniseries from the 70's, it's absolutely marvolous, and last time I looked it was here on youtube. Glenda Jackson plays Elizabeth from young teen through to her death, and she is brilliant, absolutely brilliant. As much as I've loved the performances of Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, Bette Davis, Cate Blanchette, and several other very talented actresses, for me, she will always be the definitive Elizabeth.
Dok No See Elizabeth and all monarchs, for that matter, never slept alone. There was a servant who slept at the foot of the bed in case the monarch needed something during the night. Also, royal courts were hotbeds of gossip, and I don’t think Elizabeth wanted to risk her reputation as the Virgin Queen.
To me she had the makeings of a true king and queen. She played both roles perfectly she may not have been a mother but she was the mother of England sure she had her flaws but you can't dissagree she eared the title of Gloriana
According to most historians, Elizabeth fudged on promising that oath... she worded her agreement in such a way that it satisfied the fading Mary, but did not compromise Elizabeth's own feelings on the church--which followed her feelings on most things, if it was part of her father's inheritance to his children, she would fight to defend it. While Elizabeth's Church was not that of Henry, the idea of the Church of England was.
Thankfully she didn't die from the small pox and wasn't marred with scars. People say she hated women, but that is a falsehood; though she always expected to be the center of attention. And she was until she died in her elder years. Elizabeth was too brilliant and cunning to give over her kingdom to a male monarch. She used her virginity symbolically and declared that she was married to England when her advisors pressured her for years to marry for an heir. She outwitted them all until the end.
@HorrorMovieCollab Well said my fellow American. Far too many idiots bashing "America" when one of us posts our opinion on something or someone who is English,Scottish, etc. There are plenty of ignorant Americans saying silly things as well. You and I are here because we greatly admire Queen Elizabeth. cheerz to the greatest Queen that ever lived. Tomorrow is her birthday so I want to say to her majesty: "thank you for all you did for your country and it's people and you dreamed BIG"!
Queen Elizabeth II is descended from the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, a German family that became the British Royal Family through some convoluted path to finding a non-Catholic member of the House of Stuart (I believe)... the search led to the Electress of Hanover. Queen Victoria (a Hanoverian monarch) married Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. The family changes its name to Windsor during WWI.
That's true about Mary I but I heard on another documentary that the pregnant woman gave birth on the stake; the baby escaped but was ordered to be thrown back into the flames. It was horrible - I have great respect for that woman and her newborn baby. May they rest in peace.
@Synnerligen that's why her virginity is so mysterious, at the time of her reign, it would've been crucial for a monarch to have a cemented heir to ensure continuation of her bloodline but she never did. Although her virginity and lack of ah usband did help her.
Her views on marriage, she had such good examples: her father, the court around her. She knew well what happens when a woman marries, and how during this time period the treachery involved. Nasty, evil times these were...I don't blame her for not marring...marry the wrong man, you could be killed, or your country could be lost...no thank you
Spain tried and failed to conquer England then had to sit back and watch its Empire crumble while Britain's Empire grew and it became the richest nation in Europe and the undisputed power.
The thing is, Elizabeth was not a dictator. She could manipulate Parliament and the Privy Council into getting what she wanted, but she also listened to her advisors when it was necessary, e.g. William Cecil, Lord Burghley, during the Spanish Armada of 1588. Claims that suggest anything but are unfounded and ill-proven! 🙄
Elizabeth apparently wasn't all that concerned personally with her subjects' religious affiliations, as long as they were loyal. With Spain threatening to invade and the Queen of Scots giving England's Catholics a rallying point, Elizabeth's councilors and Parliament pushed for harsher laws (as they had been for years) and she finally agreed. Elizabeth wasn't all that Protestant in her own religious beliefs.
You're right and her father had killed so many of his wives she swore by age 14 that she will NEVER marry. She did what she had to do to keep the throne for England, had she married it would have led to her death and she knew it.
That is part of the reason. She would have lost a lot power if she did. Also, her experiences in her early life had a lot to do it with her mother's execution, Catherine Howard's execution and Thomas Seymour.
@GuardianDemonX She died childless, and James VI of Scotland (James I of England), son of Mary of Scots, (who had a claim to the English throne as Henry VIII's great niece, and because of Elizabeth's perceived illegitimacy) succeeded her.
@ :50 OR was it because she was smart enough to realize that marrying meant giving up her power (and we all saw how bad that went with Phillip of Spain) and not being married protected england because she wouldn't marry someone who attacked her country and no one would want to sacrifice the possibility of that powerful of an ally.
Yeah, it is ironic. But Henry VIII not only divorced Anne Boleyn because of that, but also because he tired of her and knew on some level that he would never have a living son by her. He also fell in love with Jane Seymour during this marriage, and wanted to marry her.
